Current mood:  rockin
Category: Music
Greetings WGS Friends and Readers,
Andrew C., the latest (and greatest?) co-op to work with awesome guys at WGS. Here's a rundown of some of the heady stuff we just got at wickedgoodscene.com

Rockin' Boston
I'm sure you know that there is an abundance of concert listings available on the world wide interwebz. I've tried using such sites in the past and usually end up frustrated in a sea of double-listings, false/lack of information, and shitty bands. We've taken matters into our own hands with a new weekly feature called Rockin' Boston. Each week, I comb through basic listings in print (Boston Pheonix, Stuff, etc) and online (semi-dependable ones like boston.com and tourfilter.com). I sift through MySpace pages, official websites, and live videos.

The end result is a condensed, thorough list of only the best shows for the coming weekend. We occasionally feature other events; this week's Rockin' Boston showcases Harpoon Brewery's Octoberfest. (SIDEnote: If you've ever wondered what SIDEchief looks like in 150 year-old lederhosen, you might wanna go down to the Brewery Saturday.)

So next time you're sitting on your ass mid-week, or playing a lame game of beirut with Keystone Light on a Friday at 7PM, take a look at Rockin' Boston, GTFO of your apartment, and see a kick-ass show.

This Week's Edition:
Rockin' Boston Oct 1st - 3rd

Exclusive Articles and Editorials
A  few things I've learned while working at Wicked Good Scene since July: There are some cool-ass people here, and many of them write cool-ass articles and editorials for your enjoyment. If you go to wickedgoodscene.com now, you'll find articles exclusive only to the website that you won't find in our print issues. Some of the great reads up now:

The New Auto-Tune: Apple Loops
Talent writer Andrew C. (oh wait...that's me) discusses an increasing trend in commercials and television. More and more companies are utilizing Apple Loops found in GarageBand and Logic as a way to supply music for their commercials and show, instead of writing original music. The only problem: They're not even trying anymore.

What's up Activision? Cobain vs. GH5
SIDEchief Ben gives his own take on this much-publicized battle between a video game company, a Foo Fighter, a bald politician, and a drugged-out, strung-out loony in their fight over a dead legend.

Radio trouble? FNX Disorientation '09
2009 seems to be a tumultuous year for Boston-area radio. The latest potential mis-step this year comes from FNX, the last of the Mohica...er, alternative radio stations in the area. Check out Chris Cave's take on on some of the changes FNX is making this time around.

WGS SXSW
South By Southwest (SXSW) is upon us! Our busses are packed and ready for the trek. While the SIDEbus spreads the rock & roll freak show fever across our great country, the Street Attack Bio-Projection bus b-lines it to Austin, TX to promote the showcase and everything else Sidehatch related. Follow us as we prove that a truly independent, DIY spirit can make a difference in the music industry.

There are two ways to follow us at SXSW this year. Follow the links below to find out what we’re up to. Ben will be posting blogs from the road on a daily basis while Chris updates the Wicked Good Scene twitter stream with pictures and other anecdotes from Austin throughout the week. Keep reading below for more info, but be sure to check in regularly to see where we’re at, who we’re talking to and who we’ve seen!

A message from Ben:

WOW! South By Southwest, aka SXSW, is the Mecca of the U.S. music scene. This gathering of the timbres happens once a year in Austin, TX for about 5 days. Hundreds, if not thousands of bands take over every venue and street corner in the city, sound fills the air wherever you go, and streets are swarmed with musicians, professionals, and enthusiast alike, all having an awesome time.

It has been a dream of mine to someday make it to SXSW, either with one of the bands I work with or with my punk band The Thickness. I’ve submitted many times to the many expensive, tedious service sites to get a chance to play; yet never successfully. I never really understood it, our bands play all over the country, as far away as the Virgin Islands and have released 16 records, yet no SXSW love... This year, we wanted something different, something big. So, we rented our own venue and booked eleven of our favorite bands to play a truly do-it-yourself showcase at SXSW 2009!

The two stages at Creekside Lounge, located at 606 E 7th St. in Austin, TX will play host to the Sidehatch Entertainment Group showcase on Saturday, March 21st. If you’re in Austin be sure to come by between 8PM and 2AM! FREE, 21+

In a few hours I will begin my voyage to Austin, driving through seventeen states and playing 10 shows. Follow me, The Thickness, Humankind, and a couple of SIDEshow freaks as we traverse cross-country in our veggie-fueled SIDEbus bound for Austin.

We also just released a new issue of WGS Magazine.

Wicked Good Scene Magazine (WGS) is a monthly publication produced by Sidehatch Entertainment covering all aspects and opinions surrounding the independent music community. Currently, we have targeted circulation amongst alternative lifestyle, retail, college and live venue accounts across the country, with our main source of distribution through the bands we cover.

Our story is simple. We are a group of freethinkers, young people with an undying passion to follow our dreams and contribute to the world of music, art, and culture. This magazine is printed, folded, and stapled in-house at our little home office in Brighton, MA. and distributed through readers and bands like you. So please, disregard any blood stains or imperfect folds, and know that what your holding is made with sweat on 100% recycled material. Drop us a line if you like what we're doing, want to contribute writing, art, editorials, or even if you think we suck.

Send all of the above to: contact@WickedGoodScene.com

Thanks for reading WGS Magazine!

Wicked Good Scene - All Ages Music & Art Series was established in February of 2007 and was put in place in order to expose youth to up and coming bands and to develop a community that embraces art, music, and the entertainment industry as a whole. At future WGS events we plan to continue expanding our activities to incorporate the audience, by creating an interactive community, booking local high school bands, and setting up art exhibitions.

Our goal is to bring the unique area music scene and culture to fans, artists, musicians, and neigh-sayers alike.

Indie Spotlight: DiscRevolt

Bachelor's Degree - Is it worth it?
SNAFU - Inspired by Tiny of The Thickness
AND MORE!!

APRIL SNAFU ANSWER!!
Thanks for checking in! The answer is of course 3. If a rocker can't
go on stage shitfaced, what kind of a rocker are they? If the problem
persists and your band really takes off, then you can hire a
musician-propper-upper. Until then, a vomiting singer is part of the
biz. If you don't like it, go manage Nickelback.
