21st DATA

Hello people, its been an age since I posted to this blog, so thought I better take a second to let you know about my new digital label, 21st Data.

Its basically going to be used to release a lot of my older tracks which never did see light of day, as well as re-mastered releases which never got a digital release from the early Plasticman era!

Below is a couple of widgets where you'll be able to listen to, and buy my first two releases on the label.

Releases will follow on the 21st of each month til the end of the year, after then they may slow down to bi-monthly depending on how many tracks I can release without running out of decent tunes!!

Enjoy!!

JIZZ IN MY PANTS

Fucking
brilliant. I'm very jealous I don't have a budget or a film crew to
produce videos of this calibre. Highly entertaining, can't believe I've
only just seen this.

PLASTICMAN ON 1XTRA
15th AUGUST 2003

Seeing as there are only a few more days for the Plasticman's appearance on Myspace before retiring and turning back into Plastician, I thought I'd up this recording I found of a set from the Plasticman era........

http://files.filefront.com/1+Xtra+Plasticmanmp3/;13606728;/fileinfo.html

A few people have always wondered when I started playing dubstep.... back in the days of this being recorded, people didn't think I played grime either, but often labelled me as "FWD beats" before the term Dubstep was really even coined. I have always played both, and this mix proves it.

Nearly 6 years ago now, this was also the first time I had ever mixed on any BBC Radio station. A couple of years later I filled in for DJ Q's mix show a week after recording a pilot for Radio One which came about after meeting Hermeet Chadha who was producing John Peel's show up until the time of his unfortunate passing. It was a live 3 hour show if I remember correctly - I was thrown right in at the deep end. Off the back of my handling of Q's 1Xtra slot I was offered my spot on "The Residency" on BBC Radio One, the UK's biggest national radio station.

I played on rotation on the Residency playing a show every 6 weeks, and had a 6 month contract. Every 6 months the contracts were up for review and new DJ's were drafted in (hence the "residency" term). I managed to stay on beyond the first 6 month stint and was then drafted into the BBC's new "In New DJ's We Trust" show, which gained a better time slot than the Residency and also chopped the rotation down to 4 DJ's, meaning I was on air once a month.

I managed to hold down this slot for a year which I was pretty pleased with, eventually losing out to be replaced by Kissy Sell Out, who still plays on the BBC to this day.

I enjoyed my time at the BBC and it was a good experience working with so many different people. Recording the special shows was also good fun having all the rest of the DJ's in the studio at the same time, we all got on really well and the banter was usually fierce. I'm still in contact with most of the people I met at the beeb.

I did miss the rawness and free flowing of the Rinse shows whilst I was on there though, and a few months into making the switch from pirate to legal, I decided I wanted to stay on Rinse but to perform under an alias so not to get myself into any trouble. I went on Mondays 11-1 under the alias of Blue Stripe and had my friend Charles come down to do all the talking - you will now recognise this voice as Nomad who co-presents the show with me now on the very same slot!

Obviously once the BBC contract had run its course, I was able to appear on Rinse officially as the Plastician. Something which happened for the first time since I had moved to the BBC as my name change from Plasticman to Plastician took place during the initial changeover to the BBC.

I think I always knew deep down that I was more at home on Rinse. The idea of dubstep and grime being played on national radio in its own slot was a big deal though, and the fact I was offered the slot was really special. Back then we only had the odd play from Mary Anne Hobbs and even Westwood wasn't playing grime so I felt like I had to fully represent. Representing the Dubstep was easy, all of the producers were more than happy to lend me some exclusives and VIP mixes, and always helped out with studio mixes and phone interviews. The Grime however was not. A lot of MC's were too busy making mixtapes and didn't want anyone hearing forthcoming music, but worse than that, on more than a few occasions they would not even turn up to record a guest mix. I pretty much gave up on having MC's as guests as they were starting to make me look unprofessional.

As I had a producer on my show and we had a specific layout to the format of all the INDJWT shows, I couldn't run my shows exactly as I would have run my Rinse shows, which took the personal edge off of them a little. I missed the banter with the listeners, the reloads, the phone and msn ringing all the time. I had a good experience at the BBC which I am very thankful for but there's no place like home :)

So there's the story of the BBC, excuse my writing skills being almost bullet point like!! I'll never write an autobiography!!!

I'M A TWIT

Firstly, who remembers the word "Twit"? That was a proper dad cuss back in the day, it's not even mildly offensive and it doesn't even really mean anything does it?

Hold tight all the dads calling their sons silly twits.

Anyway, i'm now on Twitter - there's also a fake one who has a better background than me and uses the Rinse compilation cover as their pic.

Follow me on Twitter:

Also, big up everyone who's heard the Snoop Dogg Millionaire track, I'll be dropping it on Rinse tonight if you've not heard it. There's plenty more UK / USA Dubstep vs Hip Hop collabs lined up so keep it locked to my radio show for news and audio of all the forthcoming bits EXCLUSIVELY.

JAPAN
Official Youtube Video

I saw loads of videos popping up on Youtube for a tune called Japan by "Plastician Man" (not sure who plastician man is) so I uploaded my own official one for the tune by PLASTICIAN.

Enjoy.... and don't worry - as much as this video might suggest I've died, I'm still alive and not going anywhere soon.
