The Passions into Profit event took place at The British Library Business and IP Centre on Tuesday 25 August. The
aim of the event was to inspire hesitant entrepreneurs into taking the
next step towards transforming their own enterprising ideas
into reality.
Guest speakers, renowned illustrator, Rosie Brooks, and award
winning catering entrepreneur Matt Crawford, and cake-baking Robin
Campell of Cakes by Robin, inspired guests by telling their stories of
how they turned their passions into profit after being made redundant.
They shared some great hints and tips on starting a business. They
truly encouraged and inspired.

Creative
entrepreneur Wayne Hemingway, with his wife Gerardine, turned a
business selling clothes in a London market into the international
fashion label Red or Dead. Wayne is a vocal campaigner for a range of
passions, including design, entrepreneurship, social justice and the
environment. He was awarded an MBE in 2006 and is a Professor in the
Built Environment Department at Northumbria University.
Most recently, Wayne and London Mayor, Boris Johnson launched ‘KiosKiosk’ – innovatively designed rent-free retail space for creative businesses in London, as well as ‘Starter for Ten’
which provides free retail space in disused properties in Gateshead.
Here he discusses with Enterprise Insights his reasons for supporting
young creative entrepreneurs and what the recession means for the
creative industries.

Bloggers Circle has alerted me to an interesting blog about luck, and reminds us of the scene in the latest Harry Potter film where Harry pretends to slip some felix felicis in

Ron plays perfectly, embued with near-magical powers by his mental
state. Keep reading Will Lady Luck shine on you?
