DAM-FUNK

Hailing from Culver City, DaM-FunK is L.A.'s ambassador of boogie funk. Dam (pronounced "Dame" as in Damon) has spent the last few years cultivating a musical renaissance rooted in early '80s styles such as boogie, modern soul and electro-funk. In anticipation of his debut album Toeachizown, Dam has been touring consistently and banging out notable remixes for the likes of Animal Collective, Anti-Pop Consortium, Kode9 and Hudson Mohawke.

RAS G
[Brainfeeder]
With a handful of records, some blunts and an MPC, this L.A. producer has been making beats for five years now and has released a handful of EPs on the Poo-Bah label. His DJ sets are a high-tech affair with Kev primarily engaged in live remixes, slicing experimental beats and hip-hop classics to shreds.

:: Some early recordings this week + "TOEACHIZOWN" update. | Peep. ::

____________________________________________ Peace fam. So lately, U may have noticed I've been sharing some of my early recordings with U, open & freely. Well, these were all recorded in Pasadena, Ca. when I was a kid. Yep, I've been doing this for a long time. Never tried 2 get signed 2 anyone or label. I was simply doin' it 4 the FUNK of it. Later, 'some' of these will be coming out on an album I've titled "Adolescent Funk" (named after one of my favorite Funkadelic songs) sometime down the road on a newly created label: Circle Star Records. I've decided 2 go this route in regards 2 my music uploads, as of late, here on myspace because I wanna save all the NEWER 'MODERN-FUNK' I've been recording 4 U on my official debut on Stones Throw called "TOEACHIZOWN". I just wanna let my friends here (yes, 'friends'. I would like 2 think I DON'T have 'fans'. Rather, I have 'friends'. 'Fan' is short 4 'fanatic' & I consider NONE of my 'friends' who dig my music 2 be 'fanatics'. Think about it. Cats need 2 think a little deeper before they speak... but, I digress) know that the album is being completed 'right'. I didn't wanna rush this sh*t. 2 many cats do that. I don't wanna be one of those cats. I think my friends who dig my music deserve better. So, until my debut album comes 2 U which is scheduled 4 a late summer/early fall release, I'd like 2 keep U listening, have fun with U and share some of my earlier recordings from time 2 time just 2 provide a little connecting of the dots, if U will, 2 the sound that U are about 2 experience soon with my "TOEACHIZOWN" project. Cool?....Cool. Uploaded this week 4 U are: "Freeway" & "Can U Relate 2 Me?" Both of these are instrumentals recorded on the Roland Juno 60, & Linn Drum Machine. And, as usual...without any samples, loops or sequencing. "Xpectation" is an album by Prince only available for download on his website. The album was made available for mp3 download on January 1, 2003 and all the songs are instrumentals. The album was originally intended to be called Xenophobia, and the music club had previously advertised the album as one of the "4 CDs" club members would receive in the mail during 2002 for their paid $100 subscription fee. However, for reasons unexplained, after mailing the first of the promised discs in March/April 2002 (the One Nite Alone... piano set), the club decided that they would technically fulfill the club's promise by giving paying club members the One Nite Alone... Live! 3-CD set, which was simultaneously released to retail. The original title track for the instrumental album ("Xenophobia") was never released in a studio version, but a live rendition is one of the highlights of One Nite Alone... Live!. The downloadable album was renamed Xpectation after one of the other tracks. All nine of the tracks start with "X", using Prince's trademark of abbreviating song titles and lyrics with letters, numbers or symbols. The album is one of Prince's most sophisticated jazz compositions, far outstripping the musical depth of the various incarnations of the Madhouse project. This is largely because the album was mostly composed in conjunction with one of his best band configurations - the core of the "One Night Alone" group, including Candy Dulfer (sax), John Blackwell (drums) and Rhonda Smith (bass). The band is also joined by classical violinist Vanessa-Mae - whose playing adds a new layer of depth. Tracks: 1. "Xhalation" 2. "Xcogitate" 3. "Xemplify" 4. "Xpectation" 5. "Xotica" 6. "Xogenous" 7.
