Perhaps the toughest thing about listening to the ever-so-catchy Analog Sway is trying to figure out when you hear them whether to rock out or dance.

Analog Sway is the brainchild of studio whiz Matt Salazar, who has worked with plenty of Hollywood hit-makers and produced for rising rockers Depswa and Nural. He paired with electric frontman Mikey Segerstrom (ex Clique) to create a great new-retro rock sound.

When Matt heard Mikey sing, he knew he had the voice and flair of a hit-maker. When Mikey heard the sounds Matt was putting together in his studio, he knew something fresh, new and fun was on the way. When they got together, it just clicked.

"I showed Matt some ideas that I was tossing around and he showed me this dance/synth/pop track that he was playing with. Explosive, is the only word that could describe what happened when we mixed the two," Mikey says of Analog Sway's beginnings in September 2005. "All of the strange, funky, and sexy lyrics I come up with get paired up with some crazy beats and riffs that Matt has. We completely understand each others musical direction and, for the first time, nothing stands in the way of our creative process."

With layers upon layers of guitars, synths and keyboards - see them them live you'll trip out at the cool gadgets they have on stage - they're making catchy rock that will make people dance again. And they're making pop music that matters again.

Remember that electro-sounding rock we all used to groove to in the '80s? So does Analog Sway. Fuse the pop side of Duran Duran, with the rock and energy of Aerosmith, and the beat-driven grooves of Maroon 5 and you're on the right track to pin-pointing Analog Sway's sound.

Just listen to the super-catchy "Sleepwalking" a few times. You'll wake up singing it tomorrow. Guaranteed. Same with "Welcome to November." If you want something a little harder, give the "The Flood" a spin.

"Analog Sway's sound really comes from the way we can get upbeat energizing pop to fit with more heavy and charged rock," explains Matt, who says playing his own music again was an itch that needed to be scratched. "If I write something happy and upbeat like 'Sleep Walking,' Mikey is going to feel that and write some sexy lyrics to go along with it. If I write something heavier, like 'The Flood,' Mikey will come with something deeper lyrically. The elements that really fuel the sound really come down to the instruments I have in front of me. Sometimes I'll just vibe on this guitar and amp sound and just start playing. It could be the same with a synth."

Watching them live is to see a seasoned band, well beyond the short months that Analog Sway has been in existence. There's Mikey, perched on stage, going a mile-a-minute, dishing out energy to the adoring crowd. Then there's Matt, making sure everything about the band's sound is on point, smiling as he plays his guitar because it is. By mixing the duo's talents with a group of hand-picked musicians backing them up, Analog Sway's show is tight, eye-catching and vigorous.

You'll want to rock out and dance. It's OK, do both.
