DJ NASTY BIO:
Orlando's finest, DJ Nasty, is a pioneer and symbol of central Florida's hip-hop movement. Nasty's style on the wheels of steel radiates vigor and skill. And his commitment to hip hop is unparalleled.
Johnny Mollings, a.ka. DJ Nasty was born in Cuba and raised in Orlando, FL. As the youngest in a household of musicians Nasty learned an appreciation for the art of music. Unlike the typical musician, Nasty found his method of expression on the turntables and developed skillz by watching mentors Tony Touch and Magic Mike get busy.
In 1991, Nasty alongside two other ambitious DJ's (Caesar and Khaled) formed Hitmen Productions to introduce hip-hop and the club "crunk", thus laying the foundation for Orlando's hip-hop scene. Hitmen eventually dissolved yet Nasty maintained fierce determination to keep hip-hop alive in the Central Florida area. Nasty achieved this goal in '99 by taking over the airwaves as a Mixer on WJHM 102 Jamz. Nasty's use of the radios power and influence enabled him to act as a medium to spread hip-hop to a vast diverse population. Also, it allowed him to work as an avenue for new artists, as Nasty puts it "the greatest advantage of the radio is its ability to break new artist, which is difficult in a club setting."
Nasty talents go beyond the turntables to include other facest of the music industry as his work as DJ led him into production. He was introduced to the Akai MPC60 drum machine sampler by DJ Khaled, and instantaneously discovered his knack for creating hot beats. A defining moment for his work as a producer came in 1997 where Nasty and his brother Lenny formed a Production Company known as "Nasty Beatmakers. Their joint creativity and contrast has brought versatility to the range of music produced. Nasty Beat Makers have produced tracks for artists ranging from Ludacris to LFO.
Also in 2003 DJ Nasty discovered a pair of upcoming producers known today as The Runners, "Orlando's Super Producers" who have produced such tracks as Hustling for Rick Ross. He currently manages them along side DJ Khaled.
DJ Nasty has successfully balanced DJ'ing and Producing and thus is considered one of Orlando's premier DJ's and is destined to become a musical genius. He continues to contribute to development of hip-hop in the Central Florida area by spinning 4-5 nights a week at area nightclubs and also representing the streets by way of the radio on WJHM 102 Jamz, Monday thru Saturday. Ultimately, Nasty is equipped with all the right elements to make a powerful impact on the industry.
