From Brightest Young Things (http://www.brightestyoungthings.com/live-dc/live-dc-prabir-and-the-substitutes-the-xyz-affair-poor-but-sexy-dc9/):

"Lastly, Poor But Sexy came up for what was a true master class in great musicianship.  We had previously done a couple things with Poor But Sexy so I was already ready for what was in store.  All former members of the DC post-punk scene, they play a brand of rock that just seems to want to explode back to their roots.

While often it seemed like soulful groove music, you can tell each of these guys could rock hard if necessary [and at points they did].  Most impressive was their bassist Brandon Kalber.  It’s not often you find a bassist with such a mastery of his instrument that it seems that everything he does fits into the style.  Also, his basslines worked perfectly into the holes left by  lead singer David Brown and guitar player Jason Caddell.  It’s good to see that music in DC is still as vibrant as ever and that champions of the DC music community can still hang with the younger bands [and even teach them a lesson or two].  You can tell there was respect from the openers for PBS, as for the first time in a while most of the opening bands’ members stuck around to watch.  If you missed them before, be sure to catch them the next time they have a show. You won’t be disappointed."

No, we did not pay anyone to write that.

Thanks a ton to all the people who came out to Fort Reno - we like those dance moves! Thanks to Amanda and Co. for having us too!  Think about donating to Fort Reno to make sure this great DC Summer tradition lives on.

Dear Friends,

It is finally possible to buy the poorbutsexy EP.  There are four ways to get it:

1.) Come see us at a show and we'll be happy to give you a CD in handmade packaging designed by Jason and lovingly assembled by the band in marathon crafting sessions.  It's $5

2.) Download MP3's through e-junkie at www.e-junkie.com/poorbutsexydc.  If you buy here, you are buying directly from us, and you get MP3's with all the tags, including lyrics.  It's just $4 and you can use paypal or your credit card.  Durst is working on a fancy online shop, but you can already click the button below for instant gratification and total fulfillment.

3.) Download the poorbutsexy EP at iTunes Poor But Sexy - Poorbutsexy - EP

4.) Buy a T-Shirt from us, and receive a free download code with your purchase.  We have American Apparel T's in mens and women's cuts that say "poorbutsexy".  We'll have to get some pictures up here.  Anyway, they look great and Jason worked hard to position the graphic properly with respect to the nipples.  I get a kick out of thinking how that went down...

That's all for now, except to say that we are working on some new songs that are killer.  One is called cool runnins and another one is called confession.  We are playing them at every show to get them ready for recording, which will happen soon.

Cheers,

David,

for PBS

Haven't posted here in a while, but not for lack of activity. Here's some highlights:

We wrapped up 2008 with shows at the Velvet Lounge, Iota, and the Black Cat, as well as our inaugural journey to New York... the first of many, we hope.

We're also getting some infrastructure in place: building a website (www.poorbutsexydc.com); arranging for the digital release of our self-titled EP, due out later this month; printing up t-shirts; and writing new songs to fill out our full-length album, which we hope will come available by year's end.

We're grateful to the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, which funded our first trip into the recording studio last year and has been good enough to provide us with some more financial support to finish the record.

We're honored to be nominated for two "Wammies" this year, given out by the Washington Area Music Association. We're up for awards in the categories of "best album" and "best modern rock band."

We'll be playing more shows this year, both in DC and on the road, but are devoting the next several months primarily to finishing our record.

Thanks for a great 2008! We'll see you soon.

Cheers!

Hi, everyone.
Thanks to all who came to see us at Iota last night. We had a blast and hope that you did, too. Thanks also to Pash for inviting us. We'll be taking a short break from playing shows for a few weeks, because we're heading up to Baltimore later this month to record some new tunes for our first full-length album. Stay tuned for that. Otherwise, we'll be back, probably in October, and will let you all know when we have another live date. Enjoy the dwindling days of summer.
Cheers!

We had a nice write-up in the Washington Post Express!

(For the record, tho, I love the martial shout of "Repeater".  And Otis Redding!)

now seriously, how do I put one of those current listening things in here?

Anyway, my current listening is:
Adriano Celentano
