Current mood:anticipatory
Dearest friends and fans, CD's of my new EP,
'Kenter Canyon', have arrived. I had them rushed because some folks
wanted them in time for holiday gifts. If you order now, they will ship
the same day you order them, which should be in time for whatever holiday you
celebrate. Get it? Love you. Order CD's here: http://joeyryan.bandcamp.com/..album/kenter-canyon-cd-order-..now-only-50-total(also when you get to this page you can share it on your fb or twitter or whatever you use, so tweet away) The
official release of KENTER CANYON (like on iTunes and everything) is JANUARY 19th, so
get ready to spread the word, I'll need your help as always. We can
watch the album climb the folk charts and everything, please be ready
to retweet and post facebook updates about the release. Thank you so so
so much in advance! This one means a lot to me. You can get download
the song Permanent for free HERE. Pass it on. K,
ready for a sappy end-of-year note of appreciation? If no, skip to next
paragraph about exciting things for next year. Here I go. It's the end
of the year and I really appreciate you all. xx. more to come on this
topic. Next year should be referred to as "oh ten" I think, even
though written as '10. You with me? I will be starting out oh ten in
New York baby! Baby? Yes I said baby. For you east coasters, I'm
playing a Thursday night residency at Rockwood Music Hall with Amber
Rubarth and Greg Holden. The 3 of us plus Ian Axel are also making a
trip to Philly on Jan 22, so come to the Tin Angel. Then Amber the
Magnanimous is hosting what will surely be an icy songwriter's retreat
in upstate New York where 10 or so of us will go write songs and bond
and eat and whatnot, and play a big show at the Clayton Opera House at
the end of it all. For my month in NY, I do not currently own and must
buy: shoes, boots, long underwear, a coat, a hat, hand warmers,
firewood. See you in the tundra!!! When
I get back to LA I'm doing a residency at the Hotel Cafe!!! I did one
in October and it apparently was pretty, pretty, pretty good because
they're having me back. It's a real honor. If you came to the last one in October,
thank you, come again. I will have a band together that will light the
cafe on fire musically. OH! I got into SXSW! This is an honor
too. This will be my first year there, and my first time setting foot
in Texas. I'm super excited! Anyone got a couch for me? And my band?
More details coming soon, as far as when and where exactly I'll be
playing. Hmm what else, just be ready for the January 19th
release of KENTER CANYON, and also know that I fall asleep and wake up
thankful that people like you have listened to my music, signed up to
read my meanderings, and support what I'm doing. Even at this early
stage it feels like a dream has already come true. I promise it will be
a fun ride, and that I will keep writing you new songs and figuring out
how to record and perform them better and better. Soon I'll tell you a
bunch more about what looks to be taking shape for oh ten, but for now,
just thank you, and I love you all equally. And
ya'll know this but here are the best places besides myspace to keep track of shows and
updates and stay in touch. Friend me on FacebookFollow me on TwitterBecome a Fan of my Artist Facebook Page (this helps)xx joey

I have no idea if this is a good review or a bad one, but people seem to be commenting on it
Someone tell me what it says? And for extra credit, could you translate some of the comments?

Happy Father's Day
When I was a kid my Dad got sick. Against all odds he beat his illness and survived to raise my brother and me. When I recently found out how severe the situation had been I wrote this song. I have always felt extraordinarily lucky to have had the parents that I did, and it blows my mind to think that it could have gone so differently for us. I hope you like the song.
Joey

This Sunday at the farmer's market, a women tapped me on the shoulder as I was examining the fresh oysters for sale. I stared at her with a vacant look and a half smile, desperately trying to figure out how I knew her, getting more and more embarrassed that I couldn't remember who she was. This often happens to me with friends of friends or people I have met and talked to at a show and I feel terrible every time. Then she said "your music is just great, I love your songs". By the time I realized that I was not, in fact, supposed to know who she was, she was turning to walk away.
So, this is an apology to the woman at the farmer's market who, in the most friendly and flattering way, became the first stranger ever to recognize and approach me in public as a fan of my music, and I must have seemed so rude! I'm sorry that I didn't realize what was happening and that I wasn't friendlier! I'm not used to people coming up and saying things like that to me. But, you did make my week and I'm still feeling pretty freaking cool about the whole thing. So also, THANK YOU! And if I see you at the farmers market next time I'll buy you some corn.
Love joey

First off, if you're in Ventura or Santa Barbara or nearby, come to Zoey's tonight at 8pm. I promise to play at least 3 songs you've never heard before......
This week was phenomenal. Jay Nash and I took the Prius from LA to Scottsdale to Cedar City to Denver. Well, actually we left the Prius in Salt Lake and flew to Denver at the last minute because it was meteorologically impossible to drive from Utah to Denver on Wednesday.
This was my first winter tour to places that actually have winter. In the winter, in places that actually have winter, it is cold windy and snowy in the winter. You need a jacket. And you could also use gloves. Also, sometimes you can't go where you need to go because of the winter, therefore the Prius is sitting in the airport parking lot in Utah still.
I am such a huge fan of Jay Nash that it's been an honor to get to tour so much with him for the last 8 months. And all the hard work is paying off. There were hundreds of adoring fans each night and the venues we're playing keep getting bigger and bigger. And they've started putting food and whisky backstage for us which is a huge step forward! I'm so proud to know Jay and play music with him.
Now I'm back in Southern California where it is sunny and warm and you can drive wherever you want to go. Sometimes you can't get to where you're going very quickly though. But at least traffic is constant and predictable compared to a freaking blizzard in Wyoming. See you at Zoey's. YESSSSSSSSS.
Joey

I'm still a bit dizzy after Monday night. It was definitely a highlight of my career and one fine way to start a year. If you missed it, I played in a songwriter round at Hotel Cafe with Sara Bareilles, Jay Nash, Javier Dunn, and David Immergluck and Charlie Gillingham (who make up half the Counting Crows). Ridic.
Just when it couldn't get any better and the night was ending, Sara starts playing Sullivan Street! It's been one of my favorites Crows songs since I was a little kid, and I got to sing harmonies and Sara Bareilles with her gorgeous voice was singing and Jay and Javier played guitars and our band was the freaking Counting Crows! Ahhhh, it's a good life.
Some saint in the audience managed to video the whole show so I posted videos of the songs I played here on my page. Two new songs as well "Queen Jane" and "Anchor". For the rest of the night's videos just search youtube for "Sara Bareilles Joey Ryan" and they'll all come up.
By the way, does anyone dispute that August and Everything After is a classic album, easily one of the best of the '90s, and deserves a spot on an all-time great list? Go back and listen if you haven't in a while, it's genius.
See you soon.. j
