Local rock trio The Dig Angees made it to the final round of the LG Rally for Music contest. The 80/35 veterans will play the finale in New York on Sept. 5, opening for The Gym Class Heroes.
The Dig Angees competed against more than 3,500 bands. Online voting began in June to take it down to the final four with The Dig Angees coming in second. On Sept. 5 at the historic South Street Seaport in downtown Manhattan, the band will compete against Mindefect (Illinois), The Crash Engine (Oregon), and Ryan Henke (Utah) — all opening for The Gym Class Heroes. 3,000 – 7,000 people are expected to attend the show. Online voting will resume on 9/23 and will determine the $15,000 grand prize winner.
The Dig Angees have been rocking Iowa's music scene for a few years now with their own version of indie-rock, and, as they categorize themselves, surf music. Their sound combines fast-paced sounds with upbeat guitar riffs. Even though all the members are all pretty recent graduates of high school, they play like seasoned professionals, which they have become on the local scene in recent years.
