With The Tonights on an extended hiatus, founding husband and wife team Eva Fritz & Christian Paul Sargeant return in 2009 with a new duo project - SHOOT! THE PIANO PLAYER
Taking a fairly sharp detour from the sound of their bigger group, 'STPP' incorporate more theatrical elements into a compact noise which we're throwing terms at like 'cabaret', 'punky', 'eccentric' & 'unstable'. But we'll have to let listeners judge for themselves.
One thing is certain-this is a closed shop, with the couple taking a vow prior to the projects' inception that resources are limited to just the two of them, and a sampler if need be.
No guests. No Aunts & Uncles. Two's Company. Three's A Crowd etc etc......*

After a short, low key debut performance at Sugar Rush Records' recent Xmas Party at The Globe in Brisbane, they begin their live career in earnest with a support slot at The Troubadour on February 14th 2009 with cult Scientists/Beasts Of Bourbon figure Kim Salmon, whose guise this time as purely 'SALMON' includes another bona-fide AusMusic cult-figure, DAVE GRANEY. Apparently coming across a little like Hawkwind mixed with Ministry, Salmon feature 2 drummers & 6, yes SIX, guitars. Oh. KEWPIE DOLL provide the meat in the sandwich in what should be a memorable evening of psychotic entertainment!

The next scheduled show for Shoot! The Piano Player will be a night of Girl-Power music at The Jubilee Hotel on February 28th. We'll keep you posted.

Check out the STPP MySpace regularly as we add some initial content, but as this is BRAND SPANKINGLY HOT OFF THE PRESS, there are no studio recordings at present.
Be sure to keep those ears peeled.

* No disrespect intended to Henry, Col, Simone, Vaughan, Blake, Duane, Pete, John, Chenxy, Johnny D, Mick, Robbie, Harry, Lachlan and all of our extended Tonights’ Family!!

Unfortunately due to unavoidable personal circumstances, we have had to can our upcoming slot at The Globe on May12th.
Please get along regardless to support some great local talent with Brindle, Liam Griffin & Jpan Fan giving it large!

We'll keep you posted on rescheduled dates...

Majestic & eclectic country livin' trio THE TONIGHTS follow on the critical success of their self-titled debut record, culling lead track 'Tiptoes' and getting various creative friends to put the song through the sonic blender, as well as recording a brand new interpretation themselves, right at home in the kitchen!

Kicking off with the original album version, things get shaken up firstly by the UK's GO HOME PRODUCTIONS [aka Mark Vidler] who adds some big beat spice and tranced out house stylings that are sure to get yo' bum waggling!
You may know GHP from his notorious mash-ups [Blondie/Doors, Madonna/Sex Pistols etc] and his newly released 'Mashed' album for EMI is the world's first major-label sanctioned bootleg mix record. This is sure to make his other work highly collectable-especially the legal stuff-so think of this EP as a sound investment for the future!!

Next up, we load the chillum and get all blissed out with REGURGITATOR'S BENJAMIN ELY. His 'Speeka Hugga Mix' is all drifting dubbed out grooves and Axiom-style atmospherics, lulling you into a false sense of calm before........

...the mad, psychotic acid-electro of Brisbane's resident voodoo-techno guru-NAM SHUB OF ENKI, who turned the blender up to full power and then threw it in the sink! I think Eva Fritz is in there somewhere, looking for a way out!!

Excellent though these artful mixes are, it's the last track that is the real find here. Reputedly recorded while singer Eva was heavily pregnant, THE TONIGHTS have added yet another hue to their already wide ranging stylistic palette with a creepy, dark, jazz-infused take on what was, at initial conception, a three-chord, three-minute pop song with no excess baggage.
Backward guitar slinks by, an angelic clone choir drops in and a distant violin struggles for air before the groove is reinforced by rubbery bobbing bass and tinkered cymbal. The drama is concluded by Mancini-esque sax and sprawling flute, that really could be Steve Vai shredding his heart out for all we know. Or Eddie Van Halen.

As if this wasn't enough to satisfy the most discerning music diner, they have included a QuickTime video of the original album version's promo.

The Tonights have been taking a little rest from gigs following the birth of Eva & Christian's baby boy, Ziggy. Pre-production is well underway at the Milora studio for our second album. Expect to see us back in the saddle mid 2007, we'll be used to the late nights by then!!
