Hey folks,

In case you've never heard of it, there's this great blog called the Adios Lounge maintained by a record junkie named Lance Davis. This guy eats and breathes music minutia, which is a good thing if you happen to a write a rock and roll blog. He's been cranking out articles over there for a while now, and he recently posted one that includes yours truly, the Archibalds. Go check it out and peruse the archives.

...well, the advance promo version anyway. The full record with all the art and the immaculate, final track sequence will be for sale later.  Nevertheless, do not grieve young pilgrim! Come to the Hole in the Wall on Saturday night, and we'll give one of the aforementioned advance copies. Yes, give you one - as in for FREE. If you like it, then you can buy a real copy at a later date to be determined by a mule-powered random number generator. The record is called Easy Living, and we're real proud of it. Seth makes his beatboxing debut on it. I'll be posting some new songs from it real soon, so keep a lookout.

Hope to see y'all at the Hole on Saturday. It'll be a really fun time. We're playing with our old friend Chuck Fleming and our new friends the Shake'em Ups. See you there.

Isaac Hayes died today. This man wrote, performed, and damn-near invented southern soul music. I hope that folks today remember him for something other than being the voice of Chef and a Scientologist.
Watch Wattstax, listen to Black Moses, read Soulsville USA. Go to Memphis and see his Cadillac. Hot Buttered Soul.

Go get your own copy - it's theWinter 2008 edition with Ghostland Observatory on the cover.  Many thanks to Mr. Freeman for the kind words!
Here's the words:

If the Gourds were 20 years younger, they might sound something like the Archibalds.  The eclectic Austin quartet bites with the same satiric wit, and its debut full-length, O Camellia, effortlessly encompasses any number of genres while still maintaining a distinct southern regionalism.  The songs explore a familiar small-town malaise as filtered through the astute eyes and ears of Alabama native Joey Thompson, who drapes disillusion in the banjo and steel-laden missive "Muzzleloading Evangelicals" and Beck-inspired country of "Meth Mouth" and "Opelika."  "Back Home" rolls like the Band before slipping into "Sinking Ships" zydeco stomp, while "Bettin' on the Dogs" plies a slow-burn blues and "Rain and Thunder" even kicks with a touch of soulful hip-hop.  But most impressive is that the Archibalds cull these influences into an altogether cohesive, and infectious, sound. -- Doug Freeman

So, we made a little 4 song EP called Proof of Purchase, Vol. I  to give away when we went on tour. The idea was that if you bought our full length, O Camellia, you'd get this EP with 4 track demos of new songs for free. Genius, right?

Well, it seems that people are digging it, so we will continue to give these away at shows until further notice - or at least until we make a new record.

By the way, the cover art was done by Jerstin Crosby - formerly of Tennis and the Mennonites, continually of art collective Team Lump. Check them out!
