Happy 2010 to all of our friends!  Now is the time we like to look back at the year that passed to recall the highlights for us, so here we go again...

1/2/09-THE CUTTING ROOM, NYC --This was our last show at this cool club in Manhattan, as unfortunately the club closed due to a rent increase, with the plan to re-open sometime in the future...we hope to play in their new location when that happens...

2/2/09-BOULTON CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, Bay Shore, NY -- We had a great time at this beautiful theater on Main St. in Bay Shore, Long Island, and we debuted Up To Me, from the Aqualung album, and Skating Away (on the Thin Ice of the New Day) from the Warchild album, with Mike taking a stab at the accordion for the first time! Hope it wasn't too painful for everyone!

6/27/09-SOUND BEACH INN, Sound Beach, NY-- After a springtime lull, we began working with guitarist Billy Brown, formerly of Heresy (who did a great Tull tribute of their own, in addition to original music), and Billy's first show with us was at Sound Beach Inn on Long Island, which also saw the return of Hunting Girl to the band's set list, after a 2 year break from "hunting".

7/25/09-DROM, NYC--Details of this show can be found in an earlier blog, but this show stood out for us because of our debut performance of Black Satin Dancer, which we had worked so many months on, and because of the wonderful job Billy did recording the show (you can see some of the videos here and on YouTube).

8/30/09-MORGAN PARK SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL, Glen Cove, NY-- We had a fantastic time at this outdoor concert watching the sunset while overlooking the beach on the L.I. Sound, despite the "cold wind" from "Valhalla"!   We debuted Sea Lion (which was kinda appropriate, considering the setting), and we were lucky enough to have Wayne Herrschaft shoot some amazing photos of the concert (pics soon to be posted!).  Thanks again Wayne!

9/5/09-SELLERSVILLE THEATER, PA--We had the pleasure of returning to this premier venue in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, which has featured such great artists such as Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span (w/Maddy Prior), Annie Haslam (from Renaissance), Al Di Meola, Jean-Luc Ponty, Neil Innes (Rutles/Monty Python), many great tribute bands (such as Lez Zeppelin, Almost Queen, Trespass) and many others. This show was notable for the debut dance performance of our very own "Black Satin Dancer", Sasha Grin. We were treated royally by the Sellersville staff, and had another great time...

10/13/09-IAN ANDERSON LIVE @ THE BEACON, NYC--No we didn't open for Ian, but we have to mention this as a highlight for the year (otherwise Ian might get mad at us!) I had a great time re-connecting with many fellow Tull fans that night as well (and hanging out for after-concert drinks  )

10/31/09-P & G Cafe, NYC--Our first Halloween Warchild concert, and we had a helluva good time . Alan Grin introduced the show dressed as a spooky Beastie, wielding his Broadsword, and we had a Steel Monkey, some Ladies, and a Witch (I Promise), entertain us while we performed in our very own costumes . Guitarist Craig Weinberg (of Rat Race Choir) did a great job filling in for the night, and we tackled a 20+ minute edit of Thick As A Brick.

11/25/09-P & G Cafe, NYC--Our first Thanksgiving Eve Warchild concert, at the same cool bar on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.  Erick Milcetic returned on guitar, and we finally debuted Fat Man--the night before Thanksgiving---also apropos!

That was our final show for 2009-- we enjoyed seeing our friends at our shows, and making many new ones along the way, and we plan on continuing to work hard in 2010 to do the best we can to artfully present the wonderful music of Jethro Tull to you!

As always,

Cheers!

Check out the new videos of our versions of Hunting Girl, Locomotive Breath and Aqualung, recorded at Drom in NYC on 7/25/09 by Billy Brown, our guitarist, who also edited the videos.  Hope you enjoy them!

WARCHILD is looking forward to its first Halloween concert at P & G Bar on the UWS of Manhattan (W. 78th & Columbus Ave.) and is hoping as many of you come out dressed in Tull-related costumes, and we'll be snapping photos to put up on our websites.  What Tull character do you plan on coming as?

Just finished posting a video shot, edited & produced by our guitarist Billy Brown of our debut performance of Black Satin Dancer live at DROM in NYC on 7/25/09.  Hope you can make it to our next show at the Morgan Park Summer Music Festival in Glen Cove, Long Island on Aug. 30th---it's a free show, you can bring a picnic, or just lay on "velvet green", enjoy the "summer day sands" and the best of Jethro Tull brought to you by WARCHILD, and we hope to debut a new dance performance by our very own Black Satin Dancer (Sasha Grin, who is also our Passion Play ballerina).    See you there!

I still have an adrenaline rush from our show tonight, and can't sleep yet, so I'm up typing about our show tonight (actually now it's after midnight, so it was last night) at Drom in the East Village, NYC.  For those that haven't been there, it's an interesting club in the heart of the East Village, on Ave. A that usually specializes in bands that play world music, but then again, Jethro Tull has played music over the past 40+ years that is influenced by music from all over the world, so I think we were right at home there.  Our sound was mixed expertly by Tamer, who is also a professional musician, trained in Istanbul--initially in viola, so he did a great job mixing our 2 violinists (Ana and Audrey) and cellist (Anne-Marie).  We started the night off with our early Tull collection:  My Sunday Feeling, To Cry You A Song, then a medley of With You There To Help Me/For A Thousand Mothers, then Teacher and Nothing Is Easy.  After a few words from Paul to the audience, he brought out his mandolin and went into the song Love Story, followed by Bobb doing the bass intro. into A New Day Yesterday.  Up to Me followed (with Renee joining in on glockenspiel, dressed as Nursie), and then Billy Brown (doing his second show with us) played the dark and deadly opening guitar riff of Sweet Dream (and we were joined by our string trio), and we then concluded the first set with the triplet of Third Hoorah/Bungle In The Jungle/Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young To Die.  After a short break, Billy started things off with the rock guitar opening of Tull's live version of Minstrel In The Gallery, and then I led us into Hunting Girl with the church organ madrigal-sounding opening (and Renee joined us as the hunting girl). We then lightened things up with one of our favorite additions to our set list, Skating Away (On The Thin Ice Of The New Day) on which I get to come up front with my accordion, and Joe with his bongos, and Renee gets to play on her funky, wooden Flintstones-style marimba.  I then opened up Locomotive Breath, with as much John Evansish style as I could muster, followed by Cross-Eyed Mary, into the My God Flute Solo, on which Paul always shines.  Keeping things instrumental, he then went into Bouree.  Then we tackled the masterpiece Black Satin Dancer (debuted tonight) and I think we held our own fairly well considering its complexity (with our string trio and Billy's guitar solo matching Martin Barre's practically note-for-note making it a highlight for us).  Rainbow Blues followed (and pleasantly surprised one of our audience members, James from the band Edensong, for having made its way into our set list, and has been one of our favorite lesser-known Tull songs to play).  I then played a section of By Kind Permission Of...segueing kinda of nicely into Living In The Past (I thought so anyway!).  We then closed the show with a section of Thick As A Brick (featuring our fiddling violin duo and cellist), and with the last words "to be thick as a...." leading into the opening classic guitar riff of Aqualung, as Tull has done in concert many a time (and it seems to work well!). We had a fantastic (and exhausting!) time and greatly appreciate the people who came out tonight to listen to us (and even dance with us to Thick As A Brick and Aqualung, of all songs!).  Now I'll try to get some sleep, and start tomorrow to get ready for our next gig---an outdoor concert in Morgan Park in Glen Cove, Long Island.  Hope to see you there!.....Mike

We've begun posting songs from our show at Sellersville Theatre in Pennsylvania on our TWO music players (a new ReverbNation player was added above our Friends), and there are more to come. Just trying to keep things fresh and fun! Also just added is an edit of Thick As A Brick from side 2 of the album, combining the best of our B.B. King's performance, with the ending of our Sellersville performance, to make it more faithful to the album. Other edits from WARCHILD's performance from side 1 will follow in the future.

Looking back at 2008, it was an exciting year for us, but a review of the year's highlights really has to start at the end of November 2007, since this was the first gig for the band's new configuration with keyboard player, Mike Grin, and drummer, Joe Torre, officially joining the spectacle that is WARCHILD (thanks to the beers we plied Paul, Bobb, Erick & Renee with, leading them to trust these newbies in their endeavor!)

PORT JAZZ (11/30/07): WARCHILD's 1st show at this cool club in the seaside town of Port Jefferson, LI, and Mike and Joe's debut with the band. A photo shoot followed by a nice review by Good Times Magazine, with the band's photo making it onto the cover of the Dec. 18th '07-Jan. 7th '08 issue kicks things off right for the new year! (see our "Pics" to get a glimpse of these)

SHAMROCK'S PUB ♣ (2/23/08): WARCHILD opens for Randy Jackson of ZEBRA fame, in this friendly Irish pub in St. James, LI and we had the pleasure of chatting with Randy about his playing Tull covers in the early days of his career. A real treat...

SHAMROCK'S PUB ♣ (5/3/08): WARCHILD returns to Shamrock's for another fun night, this time with the great bands Atomic Fury and Turrigenous. Love Story, with Paul plucking away on his mandolin, makes its 1st appearance in our set list.

THE CUTTING ROOM (5/14/08): WARCHILD returns to NYC for its 1st of 3 shows at this gem of a club in the Flatiron District. Mike gets to debut his version of John Evans's piano solo By Kind Permission Of...on their baby grand. Our live version of Nothing Is Easy, posted on our myspace music player, is from this concert. Debbie Herman, our myspace friend, flies in from Florida just in time to join the festivities (after first ogling Broadway stars!)

BLUE PARROT LOUNGE (6/7/08): A cozy lounge in Massapequa LI with a cool, laid-back vibe, and a friendly crowd make this a fun show for us. We take our first stab at Songs From The Wood (easier said than done.....thanks Ian!).

THE CUTTING ROOM (7/18/08): This concert is notable for the introduction of live strings to WARCHILD's shows, with violinists Audrey Morse (check out her myspace page) and Julie Kurtzman joining in on Third Hoorah, Bungle In The Jungle, and Too Old To Rock..., making it a special night. We debut the Critique Oblique section from A Passion Play, and the full version of Wind Up from this concert is posted above. We also debut the Tullian balloon finale at the end of Aqualung (much to the dismay of several broken beer bottles and wine glasses and a precariously swinging chandelier). Photos (and audio recording) from this night, courtesy of Vinnie Mineo, appear on our site.  Editing Vinnie's many videos of us:  2009 New Year's Resolution  Number 1 !
DIX HILLS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (8/2/08): WARCHILD's 1st of several concerts in a theatre, with assigned seats and everything! This extravaganza features the addition of guest keyboard player Scott Harris, from Heresy, in the role of David Palmer (pipe included), string players Anne-Marie Tranchida (cello) and Sabina (violin), and as our very own Passion Play ballerina, Sasha. Joe rolls out a thunderous Dharma For One drum solo Clive Bunker would be impressed with, and we end with the REAL giant balloons during Dambuster's March. Wayne Herrschaft takes some stunning photographs during the concert, which can be seen in a slideshow on our site.

JETHRO TULL CONCERT at JONES BEACH THEATRE (8/9/08): No, we did not play this gig (although we were rooting for Paul to get to do a flute duet with Ian)! But we did get to meet the fellows backstage after a fantastic show, thanks to our pals Deborah & Benjamin. And thanks to our friends Karen & Jeff for coming through in the clutch with the camera to document the significantly important (to us anyway!) meeting of the masters and their students. Read all about out it in our blog (and see the slideshow of photos posted on our site to prove it wasn't a fib!)

B.B. KING'S BAR & GRILL (8/18/08): The summer keeps getting cooler and cooler for us, as WARCHILD returns to this hot venue right in the heart of Times Square, across from The Lion King! (We should have borrowed his roar for the intro to Bungle...). We open for Hogweed, the great Genesis tribute band, for a night of Progressive Rock, and a wonderful time is had by all, with great hospitality provided by the club, and a backstage interview by a friendly Newsday reporter, and more great pics by Wayne. WARCHILD is subsequently featured in a Newsday article on the Long Island tribute band scene. We are again joined by Audrey (violin), Anne-Marie (cello), and making it a trio, Ana Milosavljevic (check her out on www.ana-violin.com), who give us a rousing orchestrated Aqualung (3 of our songs with them are on our music player). And we can't forget Sasha, our ballerina, dying yet again on stage, as intended, to recreate the Passion Play album cover.

JUGS & STROKERS (10/4/08): After some R & R following our R & R-summer, we rev up again and head out on our Harley Davidsons and Triumph Bonnevilles for a wild ride at this biker joint in Merrick LI. We have a blast, and debut our To Cry You A Song/With You There To Help Me/For A Thousand Mothers medley.

PATCHOGUE THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS (10/24/08): A rockin' show with Live Wire (AC/DC tribute band) and Union Jacx, in a beautiful art-deco style theater in, you guessed it, Patchogue LI.

FRANK CARIOLA'S SUNDANCE (11/14/08): Another great club out in eastern LI (Rocky Point), owned by the legendary band manager and promoter, who we got to meet after the show. We debut Mother Goose and Rainbow Blues, during which Paul feels tempted to dive into the club "mosh pit", but doesn't so as not to dent his flute.

SELLERSVILLE THEATER 1894 (12/28/08): WARCHILD closes out 2008 with a holiday show in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, our 1st show west of Jersey. Great hospitality, great food, in a first class theater, and PA Tull fans come out to rock with us. Thanks to Brian Filone of  Trespass (Genesis tribute band) and Bill Fox (of every progressive rock radio show/website/band known to man!) for your help in getting the word out.....Ana and Anne-Marie join us to accompany us on Rainbow Blues, as well as Living In The Past, Sweet Dream, Thick As A Brick, Dharma (go Joe!), and Aqualung/Dambuster's March amongst others. Sasha re-appears (that ballerina will just NOT stay dead! or is this all now the afterlife?). Runaway Giant Balloons wreak havoc in Pennsylvania countryside!! News at Eleven!

THE CUTTING ROOM (1/2/09): Yes, we know---not technically 2008, but we had to throw it in, as we celebrated the New Year with our NYC friends....

Which leads up to us wishing all our friends a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Thanks to all the friends who have come to our shows throughout the year, old and new, to all of our family members who have put up with our obsession with Tull and have driven us to gigs, acted as our roadies and biggest supporters (other than Paul's codpiece!), and to all of you who have helped make 2008 so special for us (you know who you are, as we've mentioned you above!). This year also saw us enter the world of myspace, and we had the pleasure of making friends with people all over the world who appreciate the greatest music there is! We hope to make 2009 an even better one, and hope to see you at one of our shows sometime.......Cheerio!

For any Tull fans that haven't already checked out the website www.electrocutas.com ,it's a great site with tons of archival material, including videos of Tull you might not find anywhere else (in the "Jethro Tull Webcasts" section), and a fan bulletin board.  We were honored to have a link to our own website added (under "Links" section)......thanks again Pete (Electrocutas Webmaster)!
