Black ark studios..Washington Gardens ..Kingston , Jamaica.  Pablo  hustles swiftly around the side of the building and enters the studio. Tetrack..excited but apprehensive follows. Benbow the drummer and Clayton Downie the bassie/guitarist strolled in. Pablo was in his element. " Wha a gwaan Pablo?..Scratch greeted Pablo. Scratch also hailed up the other musicians. " a dem youte yah me a work wid..you know....just a go lick a one riddim and voice dem" Pablo said to Scratch.  "Yea mon" said Scratch as he entered the control room and start fiddling with gadgets.
Tetrack is wide eyed. Not one of them had ever gone to a recording studio to do any work. They are caught up in a bubble of nervous excitement. Tetrack was getting a riddim made...just for them by the great Agustus Pablo and the big time engineer/producer Lee "Scratch" Perry was going to take the session.
Scratch  set up the "mic" for the drums while Pablo took his place behind the piano. Benbow did a few "rolls" and adjusted the hi-hats. As he tapped out a pattern on the snares and the kick drum  the excitement in Tetrack grew. As if on a signal Pablo started playing a riff on the Piano like only he can. . His hands were crossed and he started to play the bassline  for the song  with one hand while playing the chords with the other. The drum and the piano locked up immediately. Clayton the bassie started to feel out the line Pablo was playing. He looked across at Tetrack with a big smile.
Pause....small talk.....Tetrack walking around trying to act like dem cool and ready. The herb came out...in a few minutes it was real cloudy in the studio.
"Wha yuh a seh T-tracks...yuh ready? Pablo asked as he exhaled. Tetrack  got closer to Pablo. 1-2.......Benbow started the count. The drum roll was classic..the style hard core "one drop". Clayton's bass wrapped 'round the drum pattern. Scratch is busy ..tweaking knobs and peering through the glass. The inimitable Pablo piano syle sliced thru like a knife.  As the end of the "intro" approached, Pablo looked at Tetrack and  nodded slightly. "leeeets geeeet togetheeeeeeeeeeeer...come on let's have some fun". As their voices blended and the melody floated easily on top of the riddim...each member of Tetrack knew that..... dis a de real ting..........and dem ready fe it.

Carlton loves to write songs. Pablo love rehearsing new songs. It was a perfect match.
Pablo: " wha yuh a say Caaaltan...make me hear di song nuh?...wha yuh a deal wid?
Carlton: "  I man have a couple likkle  chune yah still......wha yuh a say...yuh ready fi hear dem?
Carlton reaches into his pocket and takes out some papers with lyrics. Glances over them briefly. Pablo fidgets with  some gadgets. Soon a drum machine starts playing a steady one drop pattern with a lot of hi-hat.
Pablo listens briefly then turns to his keyboard. Carlton moves closer. He is not a loud singer.

Carlton Tetrack and Agustus Pablo have been associated musically since 1974. They became close idrens. The connection between Pablo, the master musician/artist/producer and Carlton, the gifted and prolific songwriter/singer is permanently cemented by the classic Tetrack album "LET'S GET STARTED"
