...since ruby vileos has vanished from the public eye, we have had lots of emails and questions about what we're doing so we thought it would be easiest to address them in this blog. some of what will be written here will be true some will be lies meant to be funny. you decide which is which.
where did ruby go and why? simply, we were just too popular. after those fans got trampled to death at courtyard cafe' back in '06 we just realised our appearences were a risk to public saftey. if you're wondering if this is fact or fiction..cold hard fact it's truthier than true.
Ali has been raising her adopted tibetan babies ( all 7 of them ) doing occasional gigs with jay bolotin and some on her own, you can listen to her solo musings at http://www.myspace.com/midmaywest ... the page is left handed, like her

RUBY VILEOS -- THE FALL OF THE MOTOR PEOPLE Combine one of the best singers in the city with one of the most creative guitarists and one of the tightest rhythm sections. Add to that a general sense of off-kilter, eccentric creativity and, yeah, there's a pretty good chance you're going to end up with something pretty spectacular. Thus has been the case with Indie faves Ruby Vileos over the years. With their first release since 2004's long-player, This Is The Day, The Fall of the Motor People is a seven-song collection that showcases the best aspects of the band, from its more atmospheric side (the cavernous "99") to up-tempo buzzsaw Pop (the almost Punk-spirited "Back Right Now") to trippy experimentalism (the eerie, layered "a cappella" "Cat Fight"). Recorded in Virginia by ex-Sparklehorse/current Hotel Lights guitarist Alan Weatherhead, Motor People sounds amazing, with the spaciousness giving the songs a lot of room to breathe, bringing the band's etherealness a bit more into focus. Whether abstract or direct, vocalist Ali Edwards cribs some of her best lyrics yet here; on "Monsters," she chokingly sings of a derailed journey into motherhood with lines directed at a lost (or abandoned?) child, like "There is something I must tell you/But I don't know who you are/I just know that you are out there/Waiting in the stars" and "I would have loved you/In every way." The wistful "Cat's Eyes" closes the disc out with fluid elegance, sounding like a Joshua Tree outtake, with its organic, muted rumble and chiming, reverberating guitars, before collapsing peacefully in a heap of backward tape noises. Motor People is a captivating EP, so rich and effervescent if feels like an LP. (rubyvileos.com) Grade: A

so we made it back from richmond va. by the skin of wrens gums with a few fresh tracks in hand. sound of music was worth the drive. the folks at the studio made us feel quite welcome and producer/engineer al weatherhead was a score. SOM has recorded some great bands. i'd say checkout trailer bride, thecomas, hotel lights ( al's band ) spokane, and the new cracker to name a few. its about a 9 hour drive from richmond back to the 'nati. other than a speeding ticket and hitting a deer ( at 1:43 AM 5 seconds after deciding to finally listen to the mixes ) we made it home safe and sound. we're still figuring out if the 6songs we recorded will be an EP or part of a full length but either way it will be out in the next 2-3 months at the most. in the meantime we are back to gigging starting april29th at the northside tavern. also, in the meantime you may have noticed we couldnt resist showing off a new song ' fall of the motor people ' ( the song that killed the deer ) the irony is not lost on us. as soon as the album and/or EP is ready we will make it ' downloadable ' but since its not mastered yet we felt it best to wait until its officially finished and mastered. but if you have the chance to listen let us know what you think... more soon RV
