Not a big surprise to be honest. Anyone that has ever been around a dj setup I have played on already knows this. I remember looking at the headphone volume on the Pioneer sometimes and it was set around "8". Trying listening to that at home!
I am not looking for anything here guys I just wanted to tell everyone to wear ear plugs if you can.
I really started to notice things around a month ago in the studio. I was using my headphones and they were loud as I was mastering a track and this sound came in and my head just filled up with pressure. Its been 4 weeks now and my ears have not unplugged. I knew it was time to see a Dr. My ears crackle every time I swallow.
I have a 50% loss of high frequencies in my right ear and 35% in the left. I would have thought the opposite as I always used my left ear in headphones. But I am sure it's from the loud monitors over the last 18 years. I have had tinnitus for a long time now and trust me you don't want this! It's fn annoying to say the least.
It's the same frequency that makes you hear words that were not the ones said. For instance if some said "beats" I may have heard "seats" or "beach".
They also told me never use earbud style headphones. These are horrible for your ears. They don't let your ear breathe correctly and many times they are not fitted properly inside your ear to block outside noise...so you end up turning it up more to drown everything out.
I am getting musician earplugs custom made. They are form fitted for your ear and cost around $200.00 for the pair. I am going to use these any time I am out at a LOUD event or making music. They don't help when using headphones so level will be much lower when using them.
The good news is my ears should unplug after I take these meds and my ear drums are not damaged.
Anyways, I know there are a ton of djs out there so just be careful when you can.
I don't really dj too often these days as I lost a lot of interest in it all. But I think this is the show stopper for me now.
Just wanted to give you a heads up.
Thanks,
D
