GREEN LIGHTS (Winter Holiday Song)

When you kissed me in the corner
of the Non-Denominational Winter Holiday party
we were sitting on the white couch
all along the wall where white lights were glittering
on the Hudson River

Happy Christmas
Merry Kwaanza
this is Winter Solstice
Have a Cheery Hanukkah

did you miss me when you got up
and the silver trays of finger foods surrounded us?
I was thinking when we leave out
you can take me by the hand across the overpass

watching winter bells and candles
in the winter merriment
every window large and shiny
full of things to spend all our rent

Happy Christmas baby
merry Kwaanza darling
this is Winter Solstice
have a Cheerful Hanukkah
happy Christmas baby
merry Kwaanza darling
in this Winter Solstice
have a Cheery Hanukkahh

you can kiss me on Canal street
pretending that each and every street light is for us
you can kiss me on canal street
pretending that each and every
light is green for us

then we got
up fore it was coats time
and your chocolate eyes
had quickly locked and intertwined with mine

happy Christmas
merry Kwaanza
in this Winter Solstice
I hope you have a Happy Hanukkah
Happy Christmas baby
Merry Kwaanza
in this Winter Solstice
have a Merry Hanukkah

you can kiss me on Canal street
pretending that each and every
light is green for us
you can kiss me on Canal street
pretending that each and every light turns green for us
you can kiss me on Canal street pretending that each and every
light is green for us

and I'm sending you some love
sha la la la la la la
all of the above
sha la la la la la la
I'm sendin you some love
and all of the above
sendin you some love
all of the above

sendin you some love
sha la la la la la la
from all of the above
sha la la la la la la
I'm sendin you some love
from all of the above
sendin you some love
all of the above
sha la la la la la la

and you can kiss me on Canal street
pretending that each and every
light turns green for us

you can kiss me on Canal Street

I need you to keep me straight,
When the world don't seem so great,
And it's hard enough you know
I need you to be around
When my conscience brings me down
And the world feels so obscure
I want you to be the one
Who tells me off when I do wrong,
And you know I can be bad
I need you, I need you
Say you'll stay, make my day
Now what have I done,
Was it something I said - oh dear
I need you to turn me off,
When you think I've said enough,
To the extent of being a bore
I need you to tell me no
Slap my wrists and send me home
Tell me I can't come again
Now why are you crying -
Have I gone too far - again

I love taking trains.
I love hotels.
I love packing a suitcase or messenger bag.
Travel.
Today I will cross the Hudson and travel to that land of ode known as New Jersey (not to be corn-fused with Old Jersey, mind you).
I woke up with the excitement one can akin to That Last Day of School Feeling.
Summer began on Sunday and I spent it onstage with my new band Pollen rocking out, sweating, drinking coffee and celebarting Annu's birthday, all rolled up into one humid afternoon.
Today I am learning a new song that we will debut tonight.
Drinking coffee from New Orleans which I can finally taste again.
It's supposed to be hot and sunny all the live long day.
I plan to slather myself in some terribly excessive sunscreen and brown like a rotisserie chicken guilt free between load-in, soundcheck and the actual gig.
But this isn't about the gig.
It's about waking up before my two alarms went off.
It's about walking down to the street and watching kids go to school and that ease of relief across the forehead of their teachers as they wink and nod to each other, counting the days.
It's about my friend's son getting dropped off at Six Flags to spend a day of freedom wilding out with his friends.
I've been invited to go be with the trees and I can't get away this week but I am going.
Soon.
I still remember the tree friends I made in Paris in March.
I can't wait to see them again, even though it will be on film the next time.
Sometimes I forget that I used to live in New Jersey.
Twice.
Walking to the river's edge and throwing rocks, looking at Manhattan at night.
No place for a young girl alone but no one cared about nature then.
Everyone was trying to get to the clubs.
It wasn't very romantic, the lack of shore was disheveled and sparse.
Even the park was empty.
I don't think I kept a journal that Summer but I really wish I had.
So many new things came into my life
Grey sharkskin suits, putting eyeliner on boys, dancing on speakers
P.I.L.
Riding the Staten Island Ferry
Taking the PATH Train and then walking EVERYWHERE instead of taking the bus or subway
It never occured to me to get a bicycle back then.
Brooklyn seemed like a fortress.
Intimidating and dangerous (which it was to some degree).
In New Jersey I heard so many languages all around me - I got lost in it - it was like being in another country.
Once we came out of the tunnel on the Manhattan side it was like stepping forward in time.
I co-existed between the two.
Once I took a bus to the city and I'll never forget how different it looked - like I was coming from someplace really far away instead of 3 or 6 subway stops.
Two Summers ago I went through a sudden break-up and found solace in IKEA
not for the shopping (although the shopping was good)
but for the TRIP
getting into Port Authourity
getting on the bus
watching Manhattan grow smaller behind me
I would pretend the cliffs of New Jersey were the white cliffs of Dover
I could SMELL England sometimes
look at that highway! We could be ANYWHERE in Europe right now
I could have sworn I saw an Autostrada rest point
and bringing something new back to my apartment, no matter how small
would replace the old energy
would show promise of the new
of the future

I'm not going to see you for three months
well, maybe we can meet at the pool
ride our bikes to the lake and pretend we know how to play tennis
it's all lemonade and potato salad at the end of the day
let's lie on the roof and pretend we're at the beach
because going to the actual beach requires HELLA effort
In Old Jersey I saw a path
almost a portal if you will
my first chance to step back and take it all in
I am curious to see what this New Jersey is about

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, INTRODUCING POLLEN!

Pollen, a trio of American, Finnish and French recording stars, will make their first appearance under their new name in the United States June. 12 for their American filmed debut on "Women of Soul: The Loft Series," (6:00PM EST) at the Gibson Baldwin Showrooms (in the old Hit Factory Building) . Their second appearance will be done at The Northside Festival in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on June. 13 where they will headline.

The fantastic popularity of Pollen in New York City has received considerable attention and their first record release is scheduled for November.

They are Honeychild Coleman (Apollo Heights / Badawi / we (tm) ) , who sings and plays the rhythm guitar; Annu Lilja (Lionel Rocks / Animals of The Forest), who plays lead guitar and sings, and Viveca Butler (Dayglow / Brain), who plays drums and occasionally sings.

What we are looking for:

Someone who is reliable, talented, down to earth and cool, that plays bass in a simple/effective "rock" style.

Someone who wants to be a part of a band, contribute musically as well as invest in the success of the band.

A true member.

Regarding musical style, we are not looking for a "slap" or funk bass player. This is an indie/experimental rock band.

We have an all-female line-up at the moment but are really looking for the best player and fit regardless of gender.

NO HIRED GUNS!

Our influences :

The Pretenders, The Breeders, The Pixies, The Clash, Throwing Muses, Husker Du, Bettie Seveert, The Kinks, Joy Division, Dinosaur Jr., Beatles, Sonic Youth , Mudhoney

Please EMAIL us at honeyeuro09@yahoo.com  and tell us a bit about yourself.
You may hear samples of our music at myspace.com/pollennyc
We are planning auditions between now and June 11th.

Thanks in advance -

HC, Annu & Viveca
