Hey friends! If you haven't heard by now, In The Driver's Seat: A girl's guide to her first car is on sale online, and if you think loving your car is just a boy thing, you need to read this book. Inside, you'll learn all about buying and insuring a car, what's under the hood, choosing a mechanic, fixing minor problems, surviving emergency situations, and styling your ride. Basically, it's got everything you'll need to know in order to fall in love with your four-wheeled friend. It also has fun sidebars and stats about women behind the wheel and how to be a green driver.

And if you're looking for more info about teen driving issues (think of all those 'Stop Texting-While-Driving' public service announcements), check out GirlsFirstCar.com

Hey everyone!

Getting your license is awesome.
Finally, you can quit worrying about whether that bus will ever come, leave events when you’re good and ready, and stop being subjected to the questionable musical tastes of other drivers. What could be better? But your car is also a machine. And like any machine it can—and will—break down, which can leave you feeling powerless if you don’t know how to deal.

That's where
In the Driver's Seat: A Girl's Guide to Her First Car comes in handy. Inside, you’ll get the 411 on all of your car’s parts and systems so you know what to do when they stop working. You’ll also learn how to feel confident shopping for a car, be taken seriously by the male-dominated auto repair industry, and perform quick fixes that will save you time (and get you street cred with your friends).

In the Driver's Seat: A girl's guide to her first car, is finally available to buy from our website and
Amazon.com!

Everyone's been back in school for about a month now. How's it going so far?

At Zest we know that high school life is full of a lot of exciting, confusing, and weird stuff, and sometimes it's helpful to get advice from people who've gone through it before.

That's why we've got BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT, a book about getting through Freshman Year of High School. BTST was written by our high school interns, filled with all of the stuff they wish they'd known about freshman year. It also includes tips on what NOT to do and funny freshman year horror stories.

Hey friends!

So, I haven't written for awhile, and that's because we've been hard at work getting the
brand new website together. Please check it out and let us know what you think!

You may have noticed that we've tweaked our myspace page, too. Our profile picture features our latest book, Crap, the ultimate guide to dealing with annoying teachers, bosses, backstabbers, and other stuff that stinks.

Our other brand new book that just came out is Off the Bus, and On the Record, a rare and uncensored glimpse inside the lives of rock musicians from the perspective of teen journalists.

Check out the bands the teen journalists got to meet and interview:

* Cartel * Charlotte Sometimes * CKY * Cobra Starship * Dave Melillo * The Donnas * Eisley * Fat Mike (NOFX) * Marko 72 (Sugarcult) * Gavin DeGraw * Gym Class Heroes * Jack's Mannequin * Maroon 5 * Meg and Dia * My Chemical Romance * New Found Glory * OK Go * Rooney * The Academy Is... * The All-American Rejects * The Starting Line * Yellowcard * and more!

It's great to be back! Thanks for looking the new myspace over, checking out our videos, and the
new website! Remember to leave us a comment in this blog if you like or don't like something!

Hi friends!

With another Labor Day behind us, we thought it might be interesting
to give you some back history on this national holiday. The US has
celebrated Labor Day for more than 100 years. Dedicated to the social
and economic achievements of American workers, Labor Day is a yearly
tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength,
prosperity, and well-being of our country. It's always held the first
Monday in September, and while many school districts now start classes
in August, the Labor Day long weekend is a definite indication that
summer is pretty much done.

That's right, friends. Now that the weekend is over, it means that
summer is officially over and school is just around the corner.

To prepare for the inevitable ring of the school bell, check out our
featured book of the month, BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT. Written by four
real teens, BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT is the ultimate survival guide
to freshman year of high school. It even includes humorous tips on
what NOT to do, as well as funny freshman year horror stories.

How did you spend the long weekend?

Did you celebrate workers' struggles by stuffing your face with
hotdogs and playing by the pool? Leave us a comment letting us know
how you spent your last official weekend of freedom!

And make sure to check out
BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT!

Lively and humorous, this compact instruction manual to making the most of freshman year provides realistic advice that will help teens navigate the social and academic complexities of high school, including adjusting to a new school, making new friends, and dealing with new teachers.

One of the coolest aspects of BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT, our featured book of the month, is that four real teens wrote it. Seriously. They wrote the entire book, and they made it their mission to fill you in on the stuff they wish they'd known about freshman year.  They also included humorous tips on what NOT to do, as well as funny freshman year horror stories.

One of the sections in the book is the Social Advice section, and it offers info on everything from getting to know upper classman to avoiding a personality overhaul. Here's a sticky situation you might have to deal with: what do you do if your best friend starts dating and you're not? The Social Advice section addresses this issue, including the Top 5 Reasons It's Better to Be Single.

Wondering what they are? As a reader of our blog, you get a sneak peak at the list!

Top 5 Reasons It's Better to Be Single:

  1. You don't have to worry about commitments.
  2. You never feel guilty about hanging out with your friends.
  3. You won't be known as so-and-so's boyfriend/girlfriend.
  4. You have more free time (and money).
  5. You don't have to worry about shaving.

If you want to read more funny lists and helpful advice, click on the free downloadables section to check out a free sample of the book! Or go to our website www.zestbooks.net to buy a copy for yourself or a friend.

Enjoy your looooong weekend!

You may have heard the famous President Roosevelt quote: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Sure, Roosevelt was talking about a 1933 US bank crisis at the time, but I'm sure he would agree that his quote is equally applicable to your first year of high school. Basically, freshman year is scary because it is the total unknown, and of course you are full of questions. How are you going to assimilate to your new social kingdom? Get in good with teachers? Survive the lunchroom? Create a good excuse for handing homework in late? Or fake a sick day when you just need a day off?

A few blogs ago, we mentioned a new Zest book, BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT. Divided into Social, Academic, and Practical sections of advice, BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT provides the answers to those daunting freshman year questions. BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT also includes humorous tips on what NOT to do, as well as funny freshman year horror stories.

It is also our featured book of the month. So click HERE to check out a free sample from the book!

Remember: No matter how nervous you are to enter high school, the good news is that you will come out of it alive—and BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT can help.
