Alas, my children, your good Doctor and page owner is back online...sort of. I’m actually at my mother’s right now pissing about with my cell phone.  However, I’ll finally have Internet at home at the end of next week.  I’ll be "sprucing" up the page a bit and adding some songs.

I’ve been pretty busy with work, my two kids and the book I’ve been writing.

I heard on the grapevine that the new ABC album is available on Amazon UK.  If this is true, let me know.

Peace,

Doc

The new ABC album, `Traffic', is released in the UK on Feb 4th.

The first single from this is called `The Very First Time'. It goes to

Because of having a new baby, I haven't had much time to update this page.  Hopefully I'll have the chance to do some work to the page this weekend, which includes putting up some different songs.  We've had a lot of requests for The Look of Love, Be Near Me & Poison Arrow.  Rather than put up Poison Arrow, I thought maybe I would put up the Theme From Mantrap.  Happy medium??

If there are any other song requests, please send us a message and we'll see what we can do.  We've had a problem getting Be Near Me up in the past.

Cheers,

Doc

For thos of you who missed the Concert for Diana on VH1, or simply just didn't go to the show, then you missed David Palmer behind the kit for Rod Stewart.  The show will be on again all week on both VH1 Classic and VH1.  Check it out!  Nice plaid, David!

Girls, it is difficult, but imperitive that you keep your eyes off Prince William for this performance.

Have a nice day!

It's Doc again.  Excuse the pic.  That was taken after an ABC gig in '05.

This is Matt Backer.  What you are about to read is a brief interview I did with Matt via Myspace messaging.

Doc:
Robbie Robertson made me want to pick up a guitar and play 15 years ago. Who was your big influence? Who or what made you want to play guitar?

Matt:  My parents gave me a copy of "Are You Experienced" when I was 7, shortly after they'd taken me to see Ray Charles. I guess those events ruined my life. I share your RR fixation, though. I love The Band. I remember seeing "The Last Waltz" and wanting to do what he did (up front, but not the front man, writing, directing, but still part of a band), which is probably why it took so long to put my own stuff out.
Doc:  I ? you!!  You just earned major brownie points with me!  I hear you have a serious musical education. Tell me about it.

Matt:  I don't know if my musical education is serious-I went to Berklee for 3 terms, and the longer I play, the more I realise how little I know!
Doc:  I know some serious musicians who couldn't get into Berklee. How humble thou art!  How did you hook up with ABC?

Matt: I'm a dep with ABC. I got a call from my friend Andy Hamilton (currently with George Michael) who was ABC's MD (oooh, how alphabetical) at the time asking if I could cover for a night. I'm still there after 8 years. Must be a lousy dep!
Doc:  Lousy, my ass!  You appear to be a Fender man (I like that.) What guitars do you usually use live or in the studio?

Matt:  I use Fenders, Gibsons, Martins, Taylors, Dobros, Gretschs (if that is the correct plural), handbuilt classical doohickies...whatever suits the live or recorded job. I was actually using a Gibson Firebird in Detroit. And, leaping ahead a bit, I used a 1964 Gibson SG Standard on the new ABC album.
Doc:  My husband said he told me you were using a Firebird at the show, but I didn't remember.  I am extremely jelous of you.  You appear to have every guitar I want.  I've read you have a number one hit. Congrats! Can you tell us ABC fans about it?

Matt:  My last single "Right Girl, Wrong Time" (available on all good computers) got to number 1 on a number of US radio charts, which was a hoot. And for those of you near an i-tune, the followup is now available. It's the title track from my Difficult Second Album, "The Impulse Man". Makes an ideal Independence Day present...
Doc:  Killer!  I'll be getting that on my iPod.  Thanks a lot for your time, Matt!!

ENJOY!

Hi, I'm Doc.

This is Lance Morrison.  What you are about to read is a brief interview I did with Lance via e-mail.

Doc:  I have to ask this one first. How did
you
hook up with ABC?

Lance:

I worked with David Palmer back in '97 and '98 on Rod Stewart's
"When We Were the New Boys" album.  We kept in touch and did a few gigs
and sessions since then, and when he asked me if I was interested in
doing some shows for ABC I said: "I'm in if you're there!"
Doc: I have that album somewhere.
I know what gigs you've had in the past, who you've worked with, etc., but I'm pretty sure most ABC fans do not know.  How about
sharing with us past and present gigs?

Lance:
Past and present gigs: the above mentioned Rod Stewart, Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill", Don Henley (touring since 2000 and playing on "Inside Job"), Rick Springfield (tours and records), Ringo Starr, Berlin (tours and records), New Radicals, Simple Minds, Donna Summer, Alice Cooper, and so on!
Doc: I actually didn't know about Donna Summer.

Who is your biggest musical influence?  What or who made you decide to play bass?

Lance:

Paul McCartney is the guy I most wanna be like.  In junior high I wanted to be a cross between Geddy Lee and Chris Squire.  I went through Pino Palladino and Jimmy Johnson phases later on (both serious studio musicians of their day).  Growing up I listened to a lot of FM radio, so my taste in music overall runs pretty mainstream, very pop-oriented.Paul McCartney is the guy I most wanna be like.  In junior high I wanted to be a cross between Geddy Lee and Chris Squire.  I went through Pino Palladino and Jimmy Johnson phases later on (both serious studio musicians of their day).  Growing up I listened to a lot of FM radio, so my taste in music overall runs pretty mainstream, very pop-oriented.
Doc: Good choices. I knew there was a reason I liked you.

Each time I've seen you live, you've impressed me, but something really caught my attention in  Detroit last summer.  During How To Be A Millionaire you went into the intro of For The Love
Of Money, by the O'Jays.  Whose idea was that?

Lance:

I did that in rehearsal one day.  I think we were working on extending the breakdown section and that lick struck me as appropriate for the lyric!
Doc: That was awesome. I love that song, so I flipped out. That's my husband's "theme song," so he got into it.
What kind of bass do you typically use?

Lance:

I love Fenders, Jazzes or Precisions, but if the gig calls for a 5-string, I'll usually go with a MusicMan or a Lakland.

Doc: There's another reason why I like you. You have taste in gear. Thanks for your time!

ENJOY!!

Stay tuned, I'm going to get a brief interview with Matt Backer (guitarist, for those whom aren't aware) and hopefully Lance Morrison (bassist in the states) soon.  Would still like to get a brief interview with Martin Fry and David Palmer.  *crossing fingers*

Cheers,

Doc

"There are rumors that ABC / Psychedelic Furs / The Fixx will be touring the US in July 2007.  Some venues are already starting to publicize these dates.  This tour is NOT happening.

Unfortunately these dates have never been confirmed with ABC, and for logistical reasons ABC will NOT be touring with these bands  in July this year.   We  are  looking at  some  ABC  dates  in the US  for  late  2007,  and look forward  performing  for  our  American  audiences soon.

Work on the new album has been going extremely well and fans will be able to hear it soon."
