ORDER THE COP DEBUT REISSUE NOW !!!! CLICK HERE TO ORDER

Back in the 1980's the Los Angeles rock scene cultivated spandex, glam and big - make that HUGE – hair, whilst in New York a far grittier aesthetic was being honed; one that would promote the hard working, hard living ethos of an inner city blighted by forgotten neighbourhoods and low uemployment. The perfect backdrop, in fact, for the low-down high volume rock ‘n roll of no-frills minimalists such as the Ramones, Raging Slab, Smashed Gladys, Blitzspeer and… Circus Of Power.

COP, as they were commonly known amongst friends and fans, lived life on the edge; a trail blazing sound. Spotted by esteemed NYC-based producer Daniel Rey, they were snapped up, together with Raging Slab, by the giant RCA label, creating one of the greatest debut hard rock albums of the era. Raw, edgy and extremely dangerous, Circus Of Power’s debut album, originally released in 1989, is a seething guitar-fuelled temper tantrum that remains as powerful today as it was when first released.

24-bit remastering from original source tapes, 5 bonus tracks, 4,000 word story of the making of the album, full involvement by the band, rare photos, all spread out over a superb 12 page full colour booklet.

Track listing: 1. Motor 2. White Trash Queen 3. Call Of The Wild 4. Needles 5. In The Wind 6. Heart Attack 7. Crazy 8. Letters Home 9. Backseat Mama 10. Machine. Bonus Tracks: 11. Heart Attack (Bonus track on original CD issue). 12. Backseat Mama (demo) 13. Motor (demo) 14. In The Wind (demo) 15. Dreams Tonight (demo)

This is an interview with Ricky Beck Mahler before the 2006 reunion show Austin Texas for Reloaded magazine.....

Q:  How did you meet Alex and how did the Circus of Power project begin?

A: We met while living in south Florida, both playing in different bands on the local punk rock scene in the early 80's. Then hooked up with each other in NYC a few years later, the rest is history....

Q:    Was there a particular Circus of Power tour that you would call your favorite?

A: The Faith No More tour was my favorite...

Q:   How would you describe the backstage area at a COP show?...water and fruit…or beer, whiskey, chicks and disaster?

A: Water & fruit sounds good to me.. Whisky & beer for all my friends... Oh yeah, And a hot babe after the show won't hurt either.....

Q: The first record is obviously a cult-rock classic.  How long was COP playing shows and writing the material before actually going into production on the record?

A: If I can remember correctly, maybe about a year ? The weather was really bad back in those days, it was always foggy if you know what I mean ?

Q:    Why did COP decide to add a 5th member on down the road?  First Zowie, and then Austin's very own Mark Frappier?

A:  At the time I thought it was a good idea adding a bass player and moving Gary to guitar... Looking back, I think we should have left things alone, But then again, who's to say what would have happened in that situation also ?

Q:   Are you currently involved in any new projects??

A: Musical projects, No...... But, I'm currently in the process of moving from one house to another, that's the only project I have going on/as we speak... But, If anyone wants to sell me their vintage guitar they can contact me any time @ Myspace.com/chudking

Q:      What were the last 3 cd's that you purchased?

A: Muse- Absolution. Mick Ronson-Play don't worry. I use to have it when I was a kid but lost it over the years, it's awesome. And the last one was Ian Hunter-Standing in the light, Also a Classic....

Q:   As a guitar player, which guitarists influenced the way you play and your approach to the instrument?

A:  Mick Ronson, Mick Ralphs, Leslie West, Tony Iommi, & many others.....

Q:   Any animosity toward the rise of the Seattle scene and the grunge movement in general?

A:  Not now, But maybe a little bit back in the day.... Now I'm thankful for a lot of great music that came out of that scene.....

Q:  Why Austin, Texas for this reunion show as opposed to Los Angeles or New York?

A: Mark/Frap the bass player lives in Austin, That's how this whole thing came about... It's the big Republic of Texas bike week, Should be fun, I hope ? LOL...

Q: Do you have a large guitar collection?  If so, what is your main axe?

A: I have Mucho guitars, I probably own over 100 guitars at the moment. I have what you'd call a stash of collectable guitars, and then I have a stash of players guitars.. The guitar I'll be playing in Austin is a Gibson 1960 reissue, I think I'll leave the real one at home for safe keeping...

Q:  Are you anticipating more Circus of Power music to be written in the near future, or has the horse been beaten?

A: The horse will never be beaten... I say, lets see how this show goes, then take it from there...

Q:    Time for a little word association.

CIRCUS OF POWER frontman Alex Mitchell has published a book, entitled "Life Is A Phantom Kmart Horse Starting Up In The Middle Of The Night". The author's official bio reads as follows:

"Alex Mitchell was born in Toronto and moved to Pompano Beach when he was 12. He was student of the year in eighth grade but got kicked out the following semester. Mitchell never finished high school, instead spending the several years working construction, dealing pot, cutting lawns, and hanging around the local punk rock scene. He moved to New York City at age 21 and later formed the rock group CIRCUS OF POWER (RCA Records). In 1991, he moved to Los Angeles and started writing poems in 2004. Alex continues to live in L.A., writing and singing in rock groups."

Circus Of Power & Beyond !
"The Lowdown For Now"

Wow!! What a great night. The Circus Of Power show at Don Hills in New York City on Sept. 27th was an unmitigated success. It was one of those very rare instances in life when in fact "you can go back". It really had the feel of an old high school reunion and it was great to see so many people come out and support the band as well as the new "Passion & Brotherhood" film. The new video of "Motor" really puts across the excitement and energy of that special night. It's inspired us all to commit for further camaraderie-laced adventures together in the near future.  Everyone is a little older now and more accepting of everyone's shortcomings soooooooooooo.....

A "20th Anniversary Show" in Los Angeles is in the process of being set up.  Our intention is to go over to Japan for a few shows from there.

The live recording from the NYC show is in the process of being evaluated to determine its validity. Ricky Beck Mahler and Daniel Rey will be handling the mixdown duties. Work will continue on the C.O.P. long form DVD release "Got Motor? Swamp Boogie in the Big City". If anyone has video footage from the New York City show and they have yet to contact me please do so. I'm in the process of sorting thru what everyone shot and there is some really good stuff. Big ups to Lou Auriemma, Peter Grazeeolt,  Andrew Mele, Lucas Reinhart & Carl "Stunts" who shot some great footage of the show.

Any promoters out there interested in booking the band we'd like to hear from you. Any promoters out there interested in booking the band we'd like to hear from you.

Thank you for your support, it has inspired us to continue to work together.
