Hey everybody. It's getting close now. Heee hee we're having a blast! The album is almost done being written. I know I said this was going to be a return to Short Bus and it is, as well as a return to Title of Record and Amalgamut. I might put a song (working title Drugboy) as the lead track because it's the return of heavy filter that we all need and want. It sounds like Columind. Then there are a few songs reminiscent of short bus that I think would go next. I asked your thoughts and you told me what I needed to hear. Bob and I are really concerned with making sure every song connects with you, and counts. I've really taken you into consideration on this. Thank you for being there for me - Richard Patrick

LYRICS
Cold (Anthem for the Damned)
Out in the desert sky tonight With nothing but my head Under the watchful of eyes your Thinking the thoughts of dread Wanting to tear myself apart I'm running for some rest Cold thoughts must lie within Cold blood under my skin Making the dream wash out tonight With nothing but my dread Watching the world fall down At least inside my head Cold thoughts must lie within Cold blood under my skin I wish I'd just stayed in, I wish I'd just stayed in, I wish I'd just stayed in tonight Ask me a question, something that you know Watch as I lie, watch as a lie is told Cold thoughts must lie within Cold blood under my skin __________________________________________
RICH SAYS:
....................
This song is about suicide—a reoccurring theme in Filter
about my potential suicide when I was an addict.
I used to find myself drunk at 7am with no one around me
whatsoever, and I had this fantasy about just getting into my car and driving
to the desert, winding up way out in the middle of nowhere so no one could find
me and then killing myself.
When I got sober and realized everything was going to be
fine, I definitely wanted to have a song about the resolve you feel when you
think, “I’ve made a decision” and you think you’re not going to be a part of
this shitty life anymore. There’s almost
happiness or a peace in finally making the decision to end your suffering—the only
way that you know how.
For a brief moment I thought this would save me from the
pain I felt, but I then thought about all the people in my life that would have
to deal with my death, including my nieces and nephews, and the only thing that
stopped me was I didn’t want their earliest and only memory of me to be my
funeral.
The thing that pisses me off about this song is that people
think I lost my heavy edge—when within the song I’m actually condoning suicide—at
least for myself at that moment in my life—and that’s about as heavy as you can
get.

Check out the MySpace Music Home Page for Richard's Playlist featuring his favorite songs of all time:
1) Love Will Tear Us Apart -- Joy Division. This is the band that inspired U2 to be a new wave band in the beginning.
2) We’ve Only Just Begun - The Carpenters. The harmonies are great.
3) Sick As Your Secrets – Veruca Salt – Louise Post is an amazing artist and I have the utmost respect for her.
4) The Long and Winding Road by The Beatles – A wedding song. 5) La Femme D’Argent by Air – Always good on a Sunday afternoon. 6) And The Grass Won't Pay No Mind by Neil Diamond – My father played Neil Diamond records when I was growing up and that is a huge reason why I make music today. 7) Sweet Dreams (of You) by Patsy Cline – Al Jourgensen once told me her sense of vocal control is amazing, and I agree. 8) You Know What You Are by Ministry – The inspiration behind Nine Inch Nails and Filter. 9) Everything In Its Right Place by Radiohead -- Love the Fender Rhoads on this. 10) Three Days by Jane's Addiction – Having toured with Jane’s Addiction, this brings back tremendous memories. 11) The Unforgettable Fire by U2 – U2 has always been a huge inspiration to me and this is one of their grand achievements. 12) Feiticeira by Deftones – I find Chino’s sense of melody astounding.
