Now that it’s cold and the holidays
are upon us, we have decided to
hibernate for the months of
December, January, and possibly
February as well.

We have already began the
recording of a small group of
songs by some of our favorite
artists.  And starting 12.10.09 we will
begin the release of one song a
month
for free download on our
website.  They will be our very own
version of someone else’s song.
i.e. a cover song.

The first month will be a song
called “Big Dipper,” by Built to Spill.
There are many months to come
so please  stay tuned.

The second month will be “Dig a Pony,”
a tune by a little British band you’ve
probably never heard of called
The Beatles.

The charming sound of lo-fi roots rock: Trashed On Fiction

.. --> postMetadata -->

Trashed On Fiction's songs worm their way to the brain and dwell there for days. The band producse comfortable rock with washes of country that recalls Wilco and The Replacements. Infused with a youthful vivacity, Trashed on Fiction writes songs that can accompany a raucous house party ("The Passing Perfect") or to reflect with a quiet, ambling nightcap ("Killing Grounds"). The execution is so effortless; it can create a sense of jealousy of the band's innate talent. - Nancy Chow

Trashed on Fiction
Words Trails Maps

By Tiffany Razzano

Suffolk County's Trashed on Fiction has released a four-track EP, Words Trails Maps, in anticipation of their forthcoming full-length of the same name. And while the tracks on the EP will also be featured on Lawns, don't think these guys have chosen to release the best of what they have to offer now - there's much more where these four songs came from (trust me, I've heard some of the other tracks from the full-length). The EP is simply meant to whet your appetites and leave you wanting more, which it likely will do.

Now, at a time when indie rock is a blanket term used to describe just about every band out there, Trashed on Fiction will likely be lumped into that category, but really, they bring together alt-country, quirky pop hooks and literary lyrics. You hear influences like Pavement, Wilco, Tom Petty and more all over the CD. Words Trails Maps opens with the jangly, uptempo "Igby & His Crockets," followed by "Killing Grounds," with its slow, lush build up. Next is the lovelorn "When She Finishes," with "Passing Perfect" - which channels The Hold Steady - closing out the EP.

And the final band for today is called Trashed on Fiction who are from New York. This is a smooth indie band who have a defining sound about them. You'll be hard pressed to find another band that sound like Trashed on Fiction. They flit between Acoustic melodies to pure rock songs with a bit of the roots music thrown in for good measure. A band you should check out live in my opinion if you are in the New York area. I'm sure they put on one hell of a show. Expect them to be getting bigger and drawing a huge fanbase and hopefully touring.

It's been a long time since we heard from Trashed on Fiction, the Miller Place trio whose 2005 debut EP, "Show Me/Show You," was a refreshing burst of edgy, arty pop. For the past six months, the band has been working on a 12-track disc tentatively titled "Lawns & Gardens," and you can hear one new song, "The Passing Perfect," on MySpace. This one's a departure, sounding like late-period punks such as the Minutemen and the Meat Puppets, with jagged guitar rhythms and atonal vocals from Dave Ruckel. See the band June 30 at The Creek and The Cave (that's one venue, by the way) in Long Island City.

Trashed On Fiction a hard-to-describe rock trio from Miller Place, reportedly has been holed up working on a new full-length album, their first recorded work since etheir 2005 EP Show Me Show You.

The new album, with the working title of Lawns & Gardens, will no doubt have a release date announced in the coming months. One of the songs tentatively slated for the new effort, "The Passing Perfect," can currently be heard on the band's MySpace area, of course at MySpace.com/trashedonfiction.

Newsday Article by Rafer Guzman

Music scenes, like people, often give birth to anomalies. Short people beget tall kids, dumb people raise smart ones, and so on. Somehow, out in Miller Place, an interesting mutation has arisen called Trashed On Fiction.

The trio --- Dave Ruckel on vocals and guitar, Eric Wendell on bass, Eric Gottlieb on drums (all three also play keyboards)
--doesn't do emo, screamo, metal, hardcore, Pearl Jam covers or any of the genres you'd expect from Long Island. Instead, Trashed On Fiction crafts upbeat, angular pop-rock with a slightly arty edge. The band cites Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson as influences, but Trashed On Fiction creates it's own distinctive sound.

Part of that mught be due to Sean Hanney, who mastered the disc and deserves special mention here. Hanney, the guitarist of the on-again-off-again band With Every Idle Hour, often mixes and masters albums for local bands; his touch is near-perfect and immediately recognizable.

He's the Rudy Van Gelder of Long Island's Indie scene. (Van who? He's the egineer for some of the greatest jazz discs of the 50's and 60's.)

Trashed On Fiction's latest EP, "Show Me/ Show You," is a seven-song gem filled with chiming guitars, melodic bass lines, and Ruckel's rough-edged voice. The lead track, "Do it for the kids," switches between a pulsing guitar riff and a halting chorus; "Chasing Life" falls somewhere between The Jam and Squeeze; "Panic" contrasts mellifluous, almost jazzy chords with Ruckel's speak-sing vocal style.

The album ends with "So What If I Knew You, So What If I Care," a six-minute mix of long jams and false endings. But Trashed On Fiction is best at quick, sharp jabs such as "Late Wonder," a bitter but bouncy pop tune. If we're lucky, this band will beget more of it's kind.
