Hey Friends!

Many longtime residents of our fair city have the mistaken impression that Chicago’s Loop isn’t much more than a high-rent ghost town after 6pm on a Friday

And sure, the traffic is lighter, the chain stores are closed, and there’s decidedly less second-hand perfume… But all of this just means that it is the BEST time to visit the concrete canyons…

1) The trains and busses are less crowded

2) The bike riding is AWESOME

3) There are hidden little pockets of activity that will surprise and delight you…

One of the most delightful and surprising of these is CAL’S LIQUORS… a holdout of keeping-it-realness hidden in the seams of the fancy-pants. The folks are nice, the beer is cheap, the environs are cozy, and we are partial to the ROCK… for example:

We will be playing a show there THIS FRIDAY with some good friends. Here are the details (in order of appearance)…

BLACKOUT DATES

(tuneful-yet-fierce trio comprised of our friends Jim, Phil and Matt – previously of Ruth Buzzy)

THE HEAVY BOMBERS

(good, ol’-fashioned, bombastic and garage-fueled rawk)

NONAGON

(that’s right, “headlining” and whatnot!)

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20TH

CAL’S LIQUOR.

400 S. Wells St
.

music at 10PM.

here –with apologies to the fine folks of law enforcement—is a link to the great poster for the show (designed and printed by ....Ryan Duggan/Drug Factory Press). We’ll have a few for sale at the show.

Your Pals,

Nonagon

As usual, if you would like to be removed from this email list, simply reply with I REFUSE TO TAKE PART IN YOUR BESMIRCHMENT OF OUR BELOVED FINANCIAL DISTRICT... or something with a little more historical perspective… Starbucks wasn’t exactly part of the Burnham plan.

Friends!

If you lived in a college town during the late-80s/early- 90s, I’m sure you fondly remember the evenings when --for the modest price of a short walk, a couple of hand-stamps, and a purloined ID-- you could sample a diverse bunch of bands (local and touring) ALL WITHIN BLOCKS OF EACH OTHER.

Maybe you were like us and got cocky, thinking, “This is what adulthood will be like forever!

The world will continue to lay a buffet of music at my immediate doorstep for my sampling and entertainment.”

But the Salad Days have wilted and unless one succumbs to the sad new model --outdoor neighborhood festivals with their overpriced food, indifferent crowds, and tariffs for simply walking down the street-- we must often choose one show… one venue… one neighborhood for our Saturday night rock seeking tendencies.

Well saddle up your Wayback Machine, Peabody because this Saturday the dream will be resuscitated.

A coincidence of awesomeness has put seven bands at two bars within 150 yards of each other this SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7th

At THE MUTINY at 2428 N. Western, it will be (in order of appearance):

FOSSIL ARM --raucous solo acoustic guy

NONAGON --that’s us!

THE HEAVY BOMBERS –Chicago-rawk from the ashes of The Dirty Howlers

I LOVE RICH  – flamboyant masters of arena rock (even when the arena is quite tiny)

Sweetening the deal QUENCHERS-- right across the street at 2401 N. Western-- will be hosting (in order of appearance): Zebulan Pike, SELF-EVIDENT (a great band of good guys from the 2win Cities), and Chicago faves Bear Claw.

Both shows promise to be ridiculously cheap-or-free, SO… come to the nexus of Logan Square, Bucktown, and West Lakeview to bounce between the shows! Check out the bands! Take in the scene! You’ll feel like your 1994 self all over again!

Hope to see you there…

As usual, if you would like to be removed from this email list simply reply to this email with “I WAS FIVE-YEARS-OLD AND LISTENING TO RAFFI IN 1994… JUST HOW OLD ARE YOU?!” in the subject line…  or something a little less traumatic… We were significantly older yet still listening to Raffi in 1994.

PS... We'll also be playing a great show at Cal's on Nov. 20th... details later...

Hello friends, well-wishers, and esteemed e-mail monitors of the NSA (Obama or No-bama, we know you’re still there),

There was a time when a band interviewed in “electronic media” would be somewhat immortalized: their insufferable opinions on life and music would be broadcast over the air and bounce around in space in-perpetuity --just begging to be picked up by some higher life form that would then be inspired to destroy our planet after hearing annoying “bon mots” from self-important hipsters about politics, the music industry, the brilliance of John Cale, and the rigors of rehab.

THANKFULLY, “the new technology” assures that OUR foray into the media-stream will last only until the right hard drive crashes, thus assuring Earth’s longevity just that much longer. You’re welcome.

The super nice Justin Vellucci at the DELUSIONS OF ADEQUACY website has given us a public forum and we took full advantage. Feel free to click on over to cozy up and get to know us a little better… We’ll wait here.

…You’re back!

Now we can tell you about the fantastic SHOW we’ve been asked to participate in next week.

PHANTOM WORKS (clean-up)

      hard, art-rocking, minimalist Chicagoans

SELF EVIDENT (power hitters)

Minneapolitan purveyors of complex guitarcrobatics… SO good!

NONAGON (probably bunting)

for those just joining this email, that’s us.

..SCOTIA.. WIDOWS (leading off to put speed on the bases)

energetic Chicagoans boasting the algebraic formula: X + All = SW (maybe?)

FRIDAY JULY 10TH at THE BEAT KITCHEN

(2100 W. Belmont, ....Chicago....) – Doors at 9. Music at 9:30

Pencil it into your calendars now… A reminder will come later.

xoxo

We’ve definitely had it easy of late: Through the good graces of others we’ve managed to play nothing but weekend shows and as a result we haven’t been late for a single class all semester…

In a desperate attempt to regain our status as the school’s oldest ne’er-do-wells we decided to just flat out ditch on Friday. You heard me!

Thankfully, the folks at QUENCHER’S –a place we love to frequent for it’s rock friendly environs, good sound system, and AMAZING beer list- have offered us a handy justification for our delinquency… a good-ole’ Weeknight Show this THURSDAY.

SO, if you think you’re cooool enough to brave detention (or at least a slightly sleepy morning), come out and see us play with some amazing bands. We promise to let you sit at our lunch table come Monday.

Here are the details:

NONAGON (look at us… “headlining” again, and whatnot!)

tHE POLES (a partially-bearded band of guitar wielders from Asheville)

IN CASE OF CAPTURE (Dexterous Chicago-instrumentalists... starting things off.)

THURSDAY, MAY 28TH

QUENCHER’S

2401 N. Western Ave. Chicago

things tend to get started somewhere between 9 and 10.

More info can be gleaned by pointing your internets at www.myspace.com..nonagonchicago

(while you’re at it, check out the GORGEOUS poster our good friend Dan Grzeca did for the show!!!!!!).

Hey...

No frills here.... just a generic "save the date" for our show at Quenchers's next week:

Nonagon (right, exactly here)

The Poles (Asheville, NC)

IUn Case of Capture (Chicago, IL)

Quenchers 2401 N. Western. Chicago

05/28/09 9-ish and stufff

A characteristically "clever" message will follow a day or two before-hand.

You've been warned.

Well-Wishers and Associates,

A friend of ours recently called us the
best opening band in Chicago... We’re almost positive it was meant as a compliment.

In fact, we have discovered that our perpetual-bridesmaid position has
suited us well... we’re masters at meeting (and occasionally exceeding)
modest expectations.

Sure, we COULD continue to ride this comfort-zone into safe, plush
existences... but years from now we would awaken in our suburban homes
to wipe the martini-haze from our fatty eyelids and discover that it
had all been too easy... that despite our vaguely-familiar faces and
three-car garages we had never really reached for the top drawer.

Well that’s all changing. In a bold gambit we have secured a
HEADLINING position...
and we all know that there’s no faster way to rocket to the top of this crazy business than being
last on the bill at Ronny’s!

Here are the details:

NONAGON (that’s us)

CADEJO NEGRO (great Nashville-based volume pushers)

GERMAN BEEF INITIATIVE (what happens when math meets not-quite-right)

CANYON (local purveyors of hook-laden orchestral lushness)

FRIDAY, MARCH 27th

RONNY’S (Logan Square’s dive-bar to the stars)

2101 N. California, Chicago

9PM. Something like 6 or 7 bucks. 21+

Here’s a link to the poster:

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=35663182&albumID=2033082&imageID=55879012

ALSO: It will be a great opportunity to toast
JOHN’S 40TH BIRTHDAY!

(I know... he looks more like 60 but the bookselling lifestyle tends to age one prematurely).

Hope you can make it!

Nonagon

(or, as the Center for Disease Control tracks them: Tony Aimone, Robert Gomez, and John Hastie)

As usual, if you would like to be removed from this mailing list,
simply reply to this email with I FULLY DIVEST FROM NONAGON, INC.
KNOWING FULL WELL THAT I AM FORFEITING SHARES IN ANY FUTURE PROFITS in
the subject line... or something a little less
market-panicky... We’d really hate to see your portfolio suffer the
inevitable, long-term hit.

Attention Madisonians and Milwaukites!

When asked to conjure up visions of the Great State of Wisconsin, some folks jump straight to the usual clichés... it’s not that we dislike cheese, beer, and football (actually, we’re not excessively crazy about football), but the clichés we invoke are more of the tourist-brochure variety: forests bisected by bike paths, miles of uninterrupted shoreline, lakes, rivers, rolling hills... and, of course, Killdozer.

We humbly announce our triumphant return to the great white near-north with no shortage of glee and TWO SHOWS on the horizon...

MILWAUKEE
Friday, March 20th
@ The Borg Ward
823 W. National Ave,
8PM – ALL AGES (we’re talking to you, 3-year-olds!)
We’re on first, followed by King’s Horses, White Wrench Conservatory, and I Crime

MADISON
Saturday, March 21st
@ The Frequency
121 W. Main St.
10PM – 21+...$6
nestled comfortably between Butte and I Crime

Much to our delight, the Madison edition of one of our all-time favorite publications has seen fit to do a short but sweet recommendation feature on us...

This from THE ONION...

(Thanks to Annie Brinkman for the photographin’)

Come on out to a show and say “howdy”!
We’ll share our snacks (if you think you’re fast enough).

Your pals,

(known to the healthcare community as Tony Aimone, Robert Gomez, and John Hastie)

As usual, if you would like to be removed from this distribution, simply reply to this email with THE BLINDING LIGHT OF YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS IS TOO MUCH FOR MY INBOX TO HANDLE in the subject field... or something a little less “Crystal Cathedral”... Still: if you’re going to give us the heave-ho I don’t think a little face-saving white lie is too much to ask for.

We bet you were wondering...

Maybe you thought, “What? They put out a debut EP, have an amazingly loud record release party, and then... nothing?”

No shows. No emails. No celebrity-judge appearances on reality television.

Wait, you WEREN’T wondering?... Seriously?

What if something horrible had happened?
Here we are, trapped in the basement of a collapsed building having to eat our sled dogs and you haven’t even considered where we might be...?
That’s so cold.

(we’re shaking off the harshness of that reality and moving forward.)

WE’RE BACK!
We have a bunch of plans and shows and interviews and stuff in the works.
One of the most exciting is the one most pressing:

QUATRE TETE (cleaning up)
BUILDER/DESTROYER
NONAGON
FORMOSA TRIANGLE (leading off)

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 19th
THE DARKROOM – 9PM
(2210 W. Chicago Ave. Chicago)
FREE!

This should seriously be an AMAZING show.
1)    These are a couple of our favorite local bands
2)    The Darkroom reeks of class and sounds great.
3)    We will be debuting a couple of fresh, mostly-finished songs
the merch table will runneth-over with recession-friendly goods...
4)    ...including a poster being created for the evening by the talented MAT DALY.

And here’s just a taste of some of the stuff we have on deck:

March 20th-  @ The Borg Ward in Milwaukee
March 21st-  @ The Frequency in Madison
March 27th- @ Ronny’s in Chicago (where you can toast John’s 40th b-day)
April 24th- @ Swing State in Lake Villa, IL
(more details on these and other shows later)

Come out and say “hey!”

Thanks!

Hey!

The nice folks in the Transmission department at Gapers Block gave NO SUN a spin and wrote up a mostly swell review!

We only ask that where the reviewer uses the phrase “sameyness” you read it as “consistency”.  :-)

A kind and kindred soul at DELUSIONS OF ADEQUACY gave our record a good listen and wrote a thoughtful review, the gist of which is summed up towards the end...

"...this a band playing from the heart for people seeking the same and, with No Sun, they've started on what will hopefully be a long career ..."

The entire review can be read here:

http://www.adequacy.net/review.php?reviewID=9119

Poke around the rest of the site while you're there. They do a good job of reviewing other lesser-known bands worthy of your ear.

We're grateful they take the time!

YAY!
