Thanks to your enthusiasm and support, Missouri made history last November by passing Proposition C - the Clean Energy Initiative with 66% of the popular vote.

But this victory for renewable energy is only half the story. Almost two years ago, a team of citizens became frustrated that this policy (that has successfully jumpstarted the use of renewables in 26 states) had failed to pass the Missouri General Assembly for 8 years. Determined to bring renewable energy to Missouri, these dedicated citizens joined together to bring Proposition C to a vote of the people.

Against all odds, this team successfully organized a grassroots campaign to gather the 163,000 signatures required to get Prop C certified for the ballot. Next, the team worked to educate voters on the importance of Prop C which resulted in its passage with a 2 to 1 margin.

Our team, Missourians for Cleaner Cheaper Energy, is working to fundraise the last $20,000 to pay for the voter education campaign.

Given the huge impact Prop C will have on the development of renewable energy in Missouri, Prop C will guarantee clean energy and green jobs in Missouri for decades to come, but we need your help to put the campaign to a close. If everyone clicks donate and gives just $20 today, the campaign will be paid off. But we encourage you to give all you can today.

Please help us by donating today. By giving $20, $50, $100 or more, you can help finish Proposition C and focus on important next steps that will continue to bring renewable energy to Missouri. Thank you for donating today.

Missouri gets 86% of its electricity from coal, all of which is comes from out of state.  In addition to being a drain on the local economy from importing coal, coal-fired power plants are harmful to the environment and public health. Coal power plants are the number one contributor to climate change, and mercury from coal plants pollutes waterways and has lead to advisories against eating fish from Missouri waterways as mercury causes developmental disorders in children.

Help the Show-Me State kick its coal habit by supporting Renew Missouri’s Clean Energy ballot initiative. The Renewable Energy Standard (RES) initiative would require investor-owned electric utilities to purchase electricity from renewable sources -- solar, wind, landfill gas and biomass -- equaling at least 2% of retail sales by 2011 and increasing incrementally to at least 15% by 2021. There is also a cost containment provision to cap any potential rate increase for Missouri consumers at 1%. To clean up Missouri’s environment, to fight climate change and to bring renewable energy jobs to the state, visit RenewMo.org today and help collect the signatures needed to place this important initiative on the November 2008 ballot.
