Current mood:  bummed
Category: Blogging
I've been working my ass off trying to find a job, and it isn't working, so I've set up various places where people can donate a couple of bucks for the cause. Most of them feature our three rabbits, who are extremely cute and very afraid right now. They don't want to be homeless.
Here's how you can help-go to
Save the Bunnies, or Save the Bunnies blog, or Help! and give a couple of bucks from paypal. That stuff adds up. We'd all be so grateful...we just need to get through the next 30-45 days and we'll be ok. This is the rough patch.
C'mon, help a bunny out.

NaNoWriMo starts at midnight. I can't wait to begin. Here's my page:moderan@NaNoWriMo

Here's a synopsis of the first few chapters:

My novel, working-titled Milk, is dystopian, though it is the near-future variety. I'm attempting to do with the insurance industry and certain medical fields the same type of extrapolation/satirization that John Brunner did with overpopulation (Stand On Zanzibar), environmental contamination (The Sheep Look Up), and that C.M. Kornbluth and Frederik Pohl did with advertising (The Space Merchants).
The story concerns one Tim Searcy, who receives an email asking him to appear at a clinic to have himself scanned, at the behest of his primary insurer. The purpose of this scan is to record the nature of his genome. Tim doesn't understand that the results of this scan can and will be used to deny him benefits in many cases, along with many of the other insureds. When benefits start to become denied, the legal profession gets involved.
During the course of these proceedings, it is revealed that one of the main pharmaceutical houses has developed several "miracle" drugs that were synthesized from chemicals secreted by ants, amazingly resistant to bacilli and viral contagions, and have been distributing these cure-alls to the uber-rich and influential.
At this point, the "Grey Panthers" begin to riot...their numbers have increased to the point that they're a political power, and they're a tad upset at their benefits being cut down a bit more every presidential term. When it turns out that the same R&D firm that developed the "Ant Milk" also has a line on anti-agathics, things begin to get really interesting.
All of this except for the email and Tim's office visit take place offstage-Tim watches it on 3V. It isn't until he himself is denied benefits that Tim decides to get involved, as the costs involved with his short hospital stay would bankrupt a small country.
Mild-mannered couch potato Tim becomes a wild-eyed revolutionary...though of course he's still a tool.
That's enough for starters. You can read the rest after about November 6th...there's a lot more to this:)

These are for a part not detailed here, for another drug, which I'm calling Snake Oil, that allows for tissue (and neural) regeneration:

Those of you who are interested in listening to the instrumental version of Suite Indigo, which includes the song Aquapocalypse that's on the player here, can go to my streaming player and have a listen. There are also some works in progress, including a version of Scarborough Fair that's a collaboration with several other artists, some of which have pages here.

I'll be putting together a stream just for Suite Indigo in the next few days. The vocal version is moving along-I don't think it'll be done by Hallowe'en as I had originally hoped, but Easter is still very possible. Haven't had as much peace and quiet here to record the vocals as I would like as we're babysitting our grand-daughter during the day while her mother is at school.

Still hoping to release it as a package, along with a revised version of the non-novel that inspired it, Blue Easter, but time may not be on my side there. The piece is done and I'm shopping it but there may not be much of a market for Lovecraftian horror crossed with hard sf. Plus I'd like to do the art and such if at all possible and a mass market publisher probably won't care for that idea at all. I might just buy a 10-pack of isbns and set myself up as a small press using Lightsource.

Stay tuned for further developments. Thanks for reading.

I've been fortunate enough to come upon an excellent novel by Matthew Malone, entitled Everyday Madness. As said in the review I put up Amazon, its theme would appeal to readers of the Bell Jar, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and similar works. The author plans to continue the free download of the .pdf version of the book even after it has been printed. In order to maintain creative control, he's self-publishing.

There's a video ad for the book at Everyday Madness video, and the download is available at Malone Small Press. Enjoy!

Thanks to all of you bands and people who recently were added to my friends list. It's a distinct pleasure to be associated with you. I'm working on a host of new tracks, which should start appearing soon. In some cases I'm just waiting for the copyright registrations to post them, so they can show up almost any time at all.

I have some short stories and articles out there as well, and with any luck at all they should be appearing shortly also. Stay tuned:)

Firstly...The Acid Exchange (http://theacidexchange.com/aepub/) AE's public forum is a place for musicians to find great discussions on music, production tips and tricks, and general communication with other music enthusiasts. Members include both amateur and professional musicians united in an egalitarian community. The membership stems largely from, but is certainly not limited to, artists from Sony's AcidPlanet (http://www.acidplanet.com). If you are interested in communicating with like-minded people in a framework that encourages a spirited exchange of ideas, with no rancor, then consider this an invitation and come on in.

Secondly...new pages up at my homesite. http://planetmoderan.net/modblog is my new blog and where most of my writing will go. http://planetmoderan.net/theshow is an audio/text entertainment thing starring myself, Sonic Epiphany, and an ever-evolving cast.

Well, now that I’ve finished customizing my page (I think), I can explore a little bit. Should also let those of you who stop by here know what’s going on...I have three cds and two novels in the works. The first cd should be finished by fall-two of the instrumental tracks that are here will be on that cd, with the vox and updated arrangements-Herd and Word. The second cd should be along by 2009, the Lovecraftian concept cd, which will include the novel Blue Easter that inspired the music (the instrumental Aquapocalypse in revised form will be part of that one). Both are moving along...and the other novel is Fallen Earring, an alt-universe piece (what if Jimi didn’t choke on his own sputum?). I’m seven chapters into the first draft right now...every Friday I post another chapter in my blog at Hear Me Out.

The third cd will be all covers and I’m taking my time with it. That’ll involve legalities and I want to get the original pieces established before issuing that one.
