Been quiet over here for a long while now, why you might ask? Because we're on hold! Cameron is up north playing with his knobs at a recording studio for an internship that will hopefully turn him into the next Steve Albini, and well, life is just far too good down south for the rest of us to move, what with all the wonderful traffic and smog enhancing our daily existence as it shortens our life expectancy. The two songs left on our handy MySpork player represent the culmination of what Avolition has accomplished so far, and we do indeed hope that more is to come but for now, we remain satisfied by the duo of ditties in question.

Now before a gripping bout of depression breaches your very soul, take solace in the fact that Adam remains active with The First Among the Fallen and Adrian sallies forth with Quadrance along with his awful noise project The Wold and The Whale, which keep the two of them heavily occupied with destroying what is left of their respective hearing. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Mike from TFAtF has joined the current remnants of Avolition to create some doom-laced bass/drum/vocal music, the first practice of which occured just a few days ago, which simply means that the tunes are just beginning and we don't even have a name yet, but there will be more to come relatively soon. Just because Cameron actually has a future with music doesn't mean the rest of us can't have fun!

Finally, I would like to add one last, heartfelt emotion just in case we never reconvene because hey, we all know how band hiatuses usually end up, right? All I can really say is that the kimchi fried rice I inhaled yesterday at a new-to-me Korean restaurant was some of the best I've ever had, and it was even pretty awesome as leftover lunch just a few hours ago. Hopefully we shall meet again, Tofu House!

Well it has been a little while since the last update, and I would say we've been too busy to write but hey let's be honest, I haven't seen an hour before 10am in about 6 months now, HEYO! Where's my $700 billion bailout, you know what I'm saying?! Actually, we have gotten a lot of stuff completed lately. Several shows were played toward the end of last year, one of which seemed quite successful even! There is video coverage lurking about somewhere, perhaps the entire affair will show up on YouBoob one of these days and you can all learn from our mistakes.

Most importantly, after our 5th recording session over the last year, we have stumbled upon a formula that completely works! Please note the following stages of Recording Giddiness that have taken hold:

First Session:
Yay! We recorded! We're rock stars! It doesn't even sort of sound like us but who cares!!! WHOOPEE!!! Now let us never play these songs again.

Second Session:
*TEMP FILES DELETED* Well, that sucked.

Third Session:
Hey, not bad! That was fun, we did it entirely ourselves for once, and it may not be perfect but it certainly sounds better than that first piece of crap that we've been trying to forget for the last 6 months.

Fourth Session:
Okay, well, yeah. Something still isn't working, but we can actually pinpoint what that is. If only we had a few more dollars...

Fifth Session:
Success! That sounds like us! That feels like us! Shit, that even smells like us! We did it! HOORAY!

We dive back into recording once again this next week, clinging to the hopes that the magic of Session #5 shall enter our souls again, and since we have recently scientifically proven the existence of such things (more on this next time), we think it will happen. Anywho, you can listen to the first such song from this Great Success here:

Avolition - Untrue

Oh sure, we may not be rich and famous, but every battle won is another umm... two drops in the... glass houses... purple elevators... hmm. Well, you get the point!

Speaking of Lifestyles of the Others and Not Us, one from our ranks heads off to the Really Big Shoe this Sunday, yes yes, Adam is going to see U2 at the Grammys this weekend. With our demos in hand and possibly a Heineken in the other, we could be MERE MOMENTS AWAY FROM STARDOM, and by Stardom I mean having several of our poorly thrown together CD-Rs tossed into the gutter somewhere near the ass end of the walk of fame, where they keep the celebrities that only got the nod by paying/blowing their way to street. Hey, if a glimpse of one of our demos is shown in the blurry corner of a 2-second pan shot of some Where Are They Now show starring the ghost of 19-year-old Miley Cyrus after she gets coked out for the last time for that great big gig in the sky, I'll say it was all worth it.

Sure, Chinese Democracy may actually be hitting the shelves quite soon, but have Avolition moved beyond Poop Alley, or finished the recordings they started two months ago? No to both! LIAR! LYRA! LIAR! LYRA! But this Saturday we shall Return To Poop and Begin Recording Again, and reinstate THE TRUTH to the world, because our moral qualms insist on clearing the air of much more than just bad wind after a good burrito. In all fairness, the Pending New Space was to have some much needed recording equipment we lack, so in theory two birds would have met their untimely demise under just one stone, but since that didn't exactly pan out we've been left, once again, to our own devices.

In other Various Forms of Exciting News, we have two gigs lined up at the same time! Our first practice in weeks was last night, and other than a handful of softies everything got LOUD * LOUD * LOUD so if you plan on attending either show, make sure to bring your Rawk Face (and maybe some earplugs). Also, hey did you hear? Obama is going to be our new president! This makes all three of us extremely excited that a guy we don't quite hate will now be in charge of a failing economy, becoming ever more powerless to stop it with each passing day, because anybody with anysense knows that things are going to keep getting worse and soon enough we'll all have to relegate ourselves to stealing like Japan's Elderly Citizens:
Nov. 14 -- More senior citizens are picking pockets and shoplifting in Japan to cope with cuts in government welfare spending and rising health-care costs in a fast-ageing society.

Criminal offences by people 65 or older doubled to 48,605 in the five years to 2008, the most since police began compiling national statistics in 1978, a Ministry of Justice report said.

Theft is the most common crime of senior citizens, many of whom face declining health, low incomes and a sense of isolation, the report said. Elderly crime may increase in parallel with poverty rates as Japan enters another recession and the budget deficit makes it harder for the government to provide a safety net for people on the fringes of society.

...

Coverage intensified after a 79-year-old woman slashed two women with a knife near a Tokyo railway station in August. She wanted police to take care of her after she ran away from a shelter for the homeless, Kyodo English News reported at the time.

Well, we finally did it. We finally played our last practice at our current, soon to be gone rehearsal space, sometimes known as The Dungeon but much more often referred to with the lovingly fitting title Poop Alley. The name came from our second visit to the nigh-abandoned building, when someone had unleashed a bowel movement of extraordinary magnitude right in front of our entrance door, which practically screamed WELCOME HOME! The smell eventually passed (sorta), but the memory endures.

I don't know what I'm going to miss most: crapping in the women's baffroom because the men's side was too frightening to enter, borrowing abandoned music equipment found sitting next to paint buskets in random rooms throughout the building, watching the bum fights across the street during mandatory eardrum breaks, trying to figure out why that one square foot of the room was 8 degrees warmer than anywhere else, or predicting what new smell awaited us every practice. This weekend we move to our new spot, and honestly I'm hoping for less character this time. A little bit anyhow.

Some bands go to Vegas, Avolition had Poop Alley. I'll miss it like my last hangover.

Actually, I mostly just hate the word blog as it is too frequently used to describe something that is in short description much more interesting than reading for yourself....

So,

As I mentioned in a recent bulletin we've been moving toward recording our own music instead of taking the time and more importantly, the money, to watch some idiot who doesn't know what he's doing completely slaughter (and not silently either...) our sound and energy.  The problem these days with everything in general is that technology has made it too easy to do things.  Granted I'm not complaining that we, as a band, can purchase higher end electronics, amplifiers, microphones, etc. and get a better sound than 90% of demos released in the 90s, but at the same time it comes at a cost...

Everyone thinks that they are Mr. Engineer/Producer and there is a great deal of, excuse my language, SHIT out there in the music industry during this era.  Everyone is using the same programs and computers to electronically create their sound, and nothing is unique or intriguing to the ear anymore.  There are just way too many pro-fools out there.

So now that the time has come for us to record our own records, I thoroughly enjoy being the "snob" that will be making the records that are true to the way a band sounds and feels.  There is a difference between a great sounding record, and a record that sounds flawless.  When was the last time you listened to a new record (that's CD for all you young lings) and wondered, "Now, how the fuck did they do that?".... or... "Wow... that's sounds so real, I'm positive these guys rock live... I'd love to see them"....?? And maybe some of you just don't care enough to think about the process an artist has to go through to deliver REAL art... and that's a shame.

I encourage all of you to start thinking outside the box and try new things.  Start thinking about what you're really listening to.  Do you really appreciate the work that has gone into it?  Does it make you feel how you felt about the music that inspired you in the past... the music that made you love music... maybe the music that made you want to really start living your life?

I was going to title this blog Broken Amps and Busted Dreams but that would be getting a little too close to SEO territory so let's just let this sleeping dog lie, shall we.

Haven't played a gig in awhile! Haven't practiced in a week! OH MY GOAT ARE THEY BREAKING UP?! No! Well, if we are, I haven't been informed at least, so let us sally forth in wanton ignorance with reckless abandon! The bass idiot's speaker cabinet is back in action, now we're just awaiting the arrival of one last warrantied replacement cymbal for The Drummer, and we shall return to The Dungeon to hone our skillz for the next bar show, which should be happening pretty soon here. We have lots of new songs, and since 66.6% of the band has been stricken by this lovely economic downturn, we've got nothing to lose! Except our cars, places of living, credit profiles, and worldly possessions of course. Come on, take my copy of Chrono Trigger so The Gas Company will leave me alone for that $18 I owe, I DARE YA!

Anyhow, are we back at war yet (and what I mean by back is of course further, protracted, continually expanding war beyond merely the Middle East)? I've been feeling way too reminiscent lately, what with Gulf War II and now perhaps Cold War II. Can we jump back to Korean War II next, or maybe one of the lesser known, just-as-evil skirmishes like Somalia Disaster II, Kosovo Lies II, or maybe POLICE ACTION II in Vietnam?! Bust out the white tennies, grab a gigantic boom box, and conjure up your favourite politically charged '80s thrash album! USA! USA! USA!

Holy carp, Bartman, my ears hurt! Thanks to everyone who made it out to Saturday's Basement Kickass Rock Show, special thanks to The Bad Dates for putting it on, and Merky Waters for straining my tinnitus (believe you me it was worth it, go see these dudes NOW). I guess there was a fourth band at the end but hey, they didn't come see any of us other bands so I bailed a wee bit early! Oh who am I kidding, I would have stuck around were it not for the 4 dudes hanging out in and around the dumpster, eyeing my car full of too much music equipment to abandon without feeling a little panicky and more than mildly punchy.

Anypoo, since we do not have any shows lined up currently, it is time to forge a serious path toward SELLING OUT by writing a biography and sending off our demos to sit at the bottom of a pile in the back of a multitude of record producers' offices, which would make excellent kindling this pending winter were it not for the fact that the god damn CDs keep melting before serving any useful purpose. Waste not, want not!

On a serious note, we had a sad loss today. Earlier this morning I was running a little late for work, but decided to make myself a PB&J sammitch anyhow, so as to avoid the nastiness that is this lovely nation's Fast Food Culture for yet one more day. Unfortunately, as I sped off to the office, I left my sammitch on the table, abandoned to the whims of intense heat and E. coli! I'm too afraid to eat it after a nasty bout of food poisoning from several years back, a simple glass of cherry juice left out for an afternoon later rendered me blind for a good 20 minutes as I writhed around on my apartment floor puking my brains out. You will be missed, wee PB&J!

Well we just got back from our first European tour, thanks to Coldplay who opened for us and really (I mean really) warmed up the crowd to a level not seen since Strom Thurmond was still a Dixiecrat. Nothing but love for those wild and crazy guys with their OVERSTIMULATING music!

Anyhow this week we have not one but TWO free shows, both local, and both during the weekend! Holy shit, no need to worry about another failed Tuesday morning job interview due to a crushing hangover! At least until the following week.

We also have about 10 hours of recorded music in various forms live, in the studio, at rehearsal, and walking around talking to the homeless people who frequent the alley where our practice space resides. Sure, most of it is overlapped schtick re-recorded for the umpteenth time, and a substantial chunk was "accidentally" deleted, but one cannot withstand the absolutely punishing amount of low quality mp3 material we have yet to pluck for any willing audience. Stay tuned for more new music!

Ha!! Just thought that was an interesting catrgory to pick. Anyway, welcome to the Avolition blog center. This is where our gifted and talented band will update you on a semi-regular basis about the goings on of our band: Avolition.
So, as some of you know, we were without guitar amplification for the past week. Unfortunately, our guitar player Cameron's amp took a crap right there on stage at the Whisky. Perfect timing, huh? After a week of uncertainty, he was finally able to con his best friends enough to put some money together for new amplification. Well, really we just wanted to help him out. It is amazing after using a bass amp for four years, how different and better a guitar amp makes everything about your music.
Well, currently we are getting ready for our next show at the Wire in Upland on 6/27. It is a cool little place. Unfortunately we have to sell some 35 tickets so please hit us up if you are interested. We are then at Lake ALice on 7/2 and then playing in front of Aroowheard Credit Union Park where the Inland Empire 66ers play on 7/11. More shows are soon to come so stay posted.
Also please comment back. We would love your input on our music.
