Various Artists
Mutations 3.0
Label – Mutate Records
1. ADSR | Linguality
ADSR left a stamp on the techno scene in the early-mid ‘90s, and though both members have remained active in the music industry, “Linguality” marks the first official ADSR release in 15 years. Now the solo project of Todd Nickolas, the trademark ADSR style of layered, interplaying melodies, deftly mobile basslines and skippety percussion remains intact with “Linguality”, and has found a suitable home among the misfits of bass & bleeps, Mutate Records.
2. Bibhas | Something Broken
Bibhas is a young and dynamic EDM producer from Mumbai, India.
With his new release of "Something Broken" on Mutate Record's newest compilation Mutations Volume 3.0, Bibhas has joined an elite group of producers.
This time Bibhas has delivered a funky big beat inspired dancefloor techno track with catchy vocals and a booty that hooks you into the groove.
A deadly combination of haunting pads, groovy fat bassline and addictive beats.
See you on the dancefloor !
3. Auddie | Ein Bergamotte
"Auddie" is a new Berliner techno project from one of the most interesting performers of the French electronic scene. Recording hard electro-break styles since 1996 under the name "Stalker", Auddie has come back to true techno, with a very personal touch. He fiddles with machines, no computer on stage whilst his unique energy and improvisation creates a very particular relationship with his live crowd.
"Ein Bergamotte", is a Berlin inspired swingy bassline track with a touch of electro-breaks in the rhythm. Edited for this release for Deejays, the track can sound completely different in his live act …depends of the inspiration!
4. Christian Woodyatt | Banjax
After a spell in the house music wilderness, long-serving DJ Christian Woodyatt returns; bringing with him a new aural armoury. Unlike the disco-tinged nuggets previously unleashed, both as himself and under the guise of Nu Soulboy, his latest offering presents a darker, deeper, tougher edge. ‘Banjaxx’ takes us on a journey through pseudo-Detroit pads, acid tones and squelching strings - carried along nicely by a driving house rhythm. With drops and builds aplenty, this little number is aimed squarely at the Dancefloor.
5. George Lanham | Exeter Era
A love of acid house, dark techno and Detroit electro has consumed George Lanham since listening to mix tapes and radio while at school that musical education now evident today in his parties, DJ sets and productions. The Priory parties that he co-promotes have become a Cambridge institution, and where he has honed his DJing skills, deejaying alongside the likes of electronica heroes like A Guy Called Gerald, Carl Craig and Andrew Weatherall creating something of a phenomenon at his club nights, pushing the pioneer CDJs to the limit and tweaking mixes on filters and the EFX1000. George’s Priory parties and DJ sets have spread further a field into London, Brighton and into the UK Festival circuit too.
George Lanham’s productions are dark, techy and acidic … watch this space….
6. Enemy Within | Scared
After writing and recording with many local bands, 2007 brought about the conception of *Enemy Within*. Wanting to combine Electronica and rock to take the music in a new and exciting direction, *Enemy Within* has achieved considerable success in the short time it’s been established. Including, a self released and produced album *Flawed*,
The Enemy Within debut on Mutate with a MASSIVE techy dance-floor stomper with the catchiest oldschool electro pop synths that you’ll have heard this side of 1982. This Electro-..House/Techy Breaks number will find itself in the record bags of a cross pollination of deejays, such is its wide appeal
7. DJ Alex Graham | Fortune Teller
Another Mutate virgin pops his cherry with a rather exciting Electro-House stomper.
Alex graham has been Djing for the last 14 years since getting his first set of decks at the tender age of 14 having caught the Deejay bug. Having mastered his art, Alex found himself headlining at private parties, illegal raves and guest spots. His interest in music spurned from his classical music training and this has opened many doors for Alex in all aspects of the music industry. Alex’s passion for music has meant that he has progressed quickly, and during the last few years his deejaying has seen him play at many of the top venues in Northern Ireland to huge responses, gracing the decks with many top names such as Jeremy Healey, Alex P, John Cechinni and Tall Paul to name but a few. Alex has also worked alongside many of the industries top Diva vocalists, Angie brown, Rozalla, Hanna Jones and Toyah Wilcox,
Fortune Teller is quite obviously a bomb and we expect support from every major player. Digi hooks & fierce bass-lines awash here in this track that will most definitely cross club & deejay genres. Expect massive radio & press support on this one.
8. Super Deejay Bobzilla | Rip Dat Shit
is another SDJB dancefloor affair, hobbled together from dusty audio oddments found down the back of his Commodore 64, designed specially for those 'special' moments in the discotheque... hand chopped basslines falling into a filtered funk four/four breakdown then just when you think its all over ‘SHA-BAMM!! percussive beats, big ass bass and everybody’s happy
9. Underpass | Behind Your Shoulder
At the edges of the ever expanding, mutating category known as electro(nica) stands Underpass. Eschewing the strategy for multiple pseudonyms - so favoured by other producers - with neatly accompanying subgenres, he has operated solely under this name for some years. Truth is, in a scene sometimes guilty of generic electronica-..by-numbers, with Underpass you never know to expect. Except, you know, sheer stamina.
When it hits your ear, you’ll recognise something. Undeniably, the music of Underpass is crafted with precision. He pushes synths and drum machines to produce beats and melodies seldom heard, while avoiding any of the po-faced beard tugging those words might entail. In short he makes, not just BPM counts or tone palettes, but TUNES. That said, we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
“Behind Your Shoulder” is Underpass’ contribution to this crazy roundabout and it’s as apt a title as we could hope for. Every so often you encounter people who stick around and always do their thing - largely because it’s what they WANT to do and it’s all they CAN do. Underpass clings to that DIY ethic long ago learned when he first emitted sound. What - no music shops, club nights or shows for music you’re seeking? Start your own. And keep going.
10. Unique 3 | If I Lose It (label heads)
Trying his damnest to look cool whilst doggy paddling against the mainstream, everybody’s favourite Uncle Edzy returns from the shed at the bottom of his favourite Nan’s garden with a musical offering that, as usual, defies genres, splits those bassbins that have so far withstood his systematic pounding over the last 20 years and goes on, even further, to trouble air traffic controllers at the airport near to you.
‘If I lose it’ takes us on yet ANOTHER trip into the calcium caked walls of this man’s half cooked brain. He’s obviously still all shook up from his recent mental breakdown and from the title of this track we can assume that he fears a similar episode (reference Unique 3’s last album release ‘Invasive Signals’) Thankfully the meds have worn off, just enough, to allow a bright chink of daylight through, enough for him to create another HEAVY, HEAVY bass-line driven techy, twisted freak of a track.
