Dear Fans and Friends!
It has been way too long since my last Blog/post and I do appreciate all of you that visit from time to time to check up on what's going on!

A lot of great things have happened and some new announcements that I am happy to bring to you guys and gals!

The biggest of all news is that Turnaround Records will be recording the band for an April/May 2010 release of my sophomore album! We will be heading to the recording studios around the start of 2010! A lot of the familiar faces will be back for this Album, already confirmed is Bassist Luques Curtis, Pianist Zaccai Curtis, Trumpeters Christian Scott, Jean Caze and Nick Roseboro. I'm looking to confirm Ralph Peterson once again as well as a number of other special guest!

I have already completed all the songs for the Album, and I can guarantee you the music will be great!

Have an idea for the name of the album? Or great concept for the cover art? Shoot me an email...I would love to hear it!   Albert@AlbertRiveraJazz.com

On other news, I am happy to announce that the Albert Rivera Quartet T-shirts are now available for purchase! This is the first batch so I purposely made them all white. Future orders will be in black as well as in white

I took some serious thought into what the price should be, and i've come to the mind set that $15 will be the final price. If you happen to see us in a live show, you will be able to get the Album as well as a T-shirt for the combined price of $20!

Go to AlbertRiveraJazz.com to purchase!

Please note that all sales go directly into pushing the new album. (Promotion, ads, etc etc) Nowadays everything needs that extra push. The photo on the shirt was taken by the great photographer Jason Goodman. You can see what he is up to and his other works at Photosjg.com

Check the website for New Free Download, a few new sections (Gear Section) and a Blog section coming soon as well as the most up to date information on shows as well as upcoming projects.

As always if you have any comments or questions, ideas, or you just wanna say Hi, feel free to leave me a comment, send me a note or email me!

So what are you waiting for?! Go ahead and support jazz, and get a shirt!

Blessings..

Hello to all, Happy New Year to everyone! I am hoping for a great 2009 not only for myself, but for everyone of you guys and gals. I'm sure things will be great.

I recently added a new member to my working band. A old buddy of mine growing up in the NYC. Trumpeter Jean Caze has been super busy doing big moves in the jazz scene. Having won the 2004 and 2006 Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition, then as many of you may know was 2nd place in the 2007 Monk Trumpet competition.

Well, this new group will be doing 2 shows in this month, the first being in NYC on January 22 at the great jazz club SMALLS here in NYC. Show starts at 9 p.m

The other show will take place January 30th, and I am really excited for. Hartford, CT is what I consider a second home.

I am honored to be doing a show at The Studio @ Billlngs Forge which is located at 563-565 Broad St., near the Firebox Restaurant. Admission: $10, adults; $7, students.

The Curtis Brothers are also on the shows, and will actually be on the next 4 shows at least. So Stay tuned for more events!

Please come and support live jazz if you can!

Re-Introduction
Albert Rivera | Turnaround Records (2008)
By Elliott Simon

Summer jazz camps where senior players influence the up-and-coming generation and pick and choose some to "go on the road" have become a common musical trajectory for some of the finest young jazz musicians. One such training ground is Connecticut's Litchfield Jazz Camp where many of the players on saxophonist Albert Rivera's Re-Introduction met, formed tight musical bonds and now serve as faculty. While Rivera's compositions are diverse, these musicians hit the pocket and sustain a powerful group dynamic.

In addition to Rivera's tenor and soprano sax playing that burns on the boppers and soothes on the ballads, drummer Ralph Peterson is at the center of this session, using exquisite texture and a melodic approach to ground and augment these compositions. The Curtis brothers—Zaccai on piano and Luques on bass—mesh exceedingly well with Peterson to form a majestic rhythm section of great depth.

Rivera can expose the beautifully tender side of his soprano on ballads like the lovely Luques tune "Elsewhere," play power tenor on a scorcher like "My Way of Saying It" and evince a gorgeous tenor tone as he does on the paean to saxophonist Jimmy Greene, "Greenetones." Greene joins the group for "The New York-Hartford Connection," a tune that is presented in two takes with different tempos. The saxophonists combine for a dual tenor voicing that alternates gentleness with incisiveness, sweetly swinging or cooking in tandem. Trumpeter Christian Scott adds some welcome timbral variety on several cuts as do fellow 'campers' Nick Roseboro (trumpet) and Andrew Lipow (guitar), completing this musically broad Re-Introduction to Rivera's music.

ALBERT RIVERA
RE-INTRODUCTION
TURNAROUND

A bright sonic snapshot of the spirited, top-shelf jazz served in area venues, "Re-Introduction" features the excellent New York saxophonist/composer and Hartford favorite Albert Rivera with his gifted capital city cohorts and other fine sidemen.

A modern jazz messenger, Rivera likes to push the envelope — sometimes lyrically, as on his fine and mellow "New View," sometimes robustly, as on the wailing "My Way of Saying It."

With a young, talented lineup featuring Hartford's extraordinary Curtis brothers, Zaccai on piano and Luques on bass, Rivera mixes a sparkling blend of smart, swinging sounds.

As a versatile composer, Rivera ranges from celebratory flag-wavers to luminous ballad pieces like "Greentones," illuminated with the iridescent classicism of a John Lewis piece.

Best of all for Hartford fans are two takes on Rivera's rousing "The New York-Hartford Connection," pairing him with tenor saxophonist Jimmy Greene, another one of Hartford's invaluable gifts to the jazz world.

A jazz tale of two cities, the swift, sleek vehicle is the perfect signoff theme for Rivera's local gigs.

Essential download: "The New York-Hartford Connection"

Rivera and the Curtis brothers perform Thursday at Szechuan Tokyo Restaurant in West Hartford. Information: 860-561-0180.
