So I'm kind of late on posting this but, in last month's (September) Performer, the one with Taxpayer on the cover, there was a small write-up on the company. The text is as follows...

"If you need your band's flyers plastered all over town, Ben Hoffman's company, Extinguish Boston, is at your service. As a student at Northeastern University familiarizing himself with the Boston music scene, Hoffman started flyering for local bands and venues in exchange for shows. As his experience increased, his business grew.

Sticking paper all over town seems old fashioned, so in the age of the Internet and instant publicity, why flyer? "The chance of someone randomly coming across your MySpace is not as likely as the chance of someone seeing your flyer at their favorite vinyl store or café that they frequent a few times per week," says Hoffman. He thinks flyering is a great promotional and marketing tool, increasing public awareness of a band's "brand" while publicizing the show.

According to Hoffman, the best areas to flyer are Cambridge, Back Bay and Allston, thanks to the high concentration of students and young professionals, an ideal audience. As for the actual piece of paper, "Besides the fast and easy route of hiring a local designer (try your favorite MassArt student or a local design company like Blake Ink) there are other ways to make your flyer pop," says Hoffman. Go with something funny or controversial. Avoid a boring black and white palette. Don't just strive for readability. Hoffman even suggests drawing it yourself. "For me and for many flyer enthusiasts out there, a good flyer is like good vinyl, and can totally achieve 'collector' status with all the right pen strokes."

I don't design flyers, I just distribute them... However, my friend Tyler designs flyers! http://blakeink.blogspot.com/ Hit him up, he is amazing at what he does. His email is on his page. -Ben

The shows listed on my calendar are not shows that I am flyering, but shows that I have either booked or are helping promote through the name Extinguish.
I book shows that I like with bands that I like, and generally book in the instrumental/experimental/ambient/progressive/heavy genre.
This is just a heads up about this kind of thing.
I don't want to put on too many shows, because I just don't have time with school, but if I like your band enough, I have no problem putting something together.

I flyer your show for you if it is in Boston or the surrounding neighborhoods of Boston that are reachable via public transportation. You get me the flyers, I take care of the rest. Check the main page to see where I go.

I will flyer your show if you are a local band, touring band, label, management, promoter, or any other artistic/creative entity, and I will flyer it for VERY CHEAP.

I know the city extremely well and will take photos of every flyer I put up.

This is a simple process and I want to make your show a success, so shoot me an email at extinguishboston@gmail.com to talk about your campaign.

I like doing this because I can give back to a community that I love and hope to meet many people throughout the process. I also believe that many people are lazy or do not have the time to do this grunt work, and this will help you get out of that rut of un-promoted shows.

Thanks!
