Tabloid Morals and Pop Culture Values

You people kill me. When I say people I mean the so called new media; the bloggers and websites who have taken it upon themselves to be the so called journalists of this generation. I say so called because many of you are not journalists at all. In fact there is no journalistic integrity in 95% of the bullshit yall report. All you do is take rumors, gossip and down right lies and report them as fact. Think of all the blog rumors you have ever read. Do any of these blogs ever get proven as fact? I'm sure a few do, but when I say a few it's only about 5% because as I stated earlier 95% of what's reported is bullshit. There is no investigative journalism that goes into your stories.  If I call a blogger right now and say, "Yo, I heard such and such got beat up last night," they will say, “Word?” “Let me make a few calls.” Within minutes on their blog you see there is a rumor on there that says "Such and Such got beat up last night." What investigative journalism did you do to insure that “such and such” really did get beat up last night? You didn't do any research because you don't care about journalism. You care about getting your story up before necolebitchie.com or gyantscoop.com.  You are more concerned with generating traffic to your blog or website than you are about reporting a factual story. That's the problem with the game today; if video killed the radio star then the internet killed the journalist.
You know what our culture needs more of? We need more real journalists to write blogs.  We need more real activist and intellectual thinkers like Boyce Watkins and Michael Eric Dyson to do video blogs and talk about the issues that effect our people on a daily basis. Think of all the hits that sites like mediatakeout.com and bossip.com get. There comes a point when you have to ask yourself why there is not more positive content on these sites? Why aren't real issues being addressed? How come everyone cares about Chris Brown whipping Rihanna's ass? Is it right for a man to hit a woman? Hell no? Does it happen on a daily basis, hell yeah! I've put my foot up a female’s ass a couple times (when I was younger and believe me I got bad karma for it) but what is the issue? Or you blog sites and websites reporting it because your trying to make people realize that domestic violence is and issue that needs to be addressed or is your site just reporting it because it's Chris Brown and Rihanna?
I read a study that said approximately 1.3 million women and 835,000 men are physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States. It also said intimate partner violence made up 20% of all nonfatal violent crime experienced by women. So domestic violence has been an issue but now since the victim is Rihanna yall give a fuck? This is what I call tabloid morals and pop culture values. Nobody really cares about the issue. You care about the celebrity. Case in point, a 15 year-old-girl gets arrested in Seattle, Washington and placed in a holding cell where she is beaten up brutally by two male cops! These two male cop’s job is to protect and to serve. I don't think that protect means a young 15-year-old girl was supposed to protect her skull from the next blow by these crooked ass, pig ass cops. I don't think serve means that these two grown men where supposed to serve up a severe ass kicking to a minor. I'm looking at child abuse, abuse of power and men beating up on a female but I don't see you bloggers outraged about that. There is even a video online where you can see the attack and what provoked the officers but I don't see you calling for these cops’ jobs the way you’re calling for the death of Chris Brown’s career. For the record the cops are only on administrative leave. Don't you think if there was more of an outrage from the media then more would have been done? Of course it would have but you people don't care about issues you care about the celebrity. Tabloid Morals and Pop culture values.
Another example of tabloid morals and pop culture values is the cartoon in the NY Post that depicted the cops shooting the monkey with the caption, “Guess they will have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.” We all know this was a racial jab thrown at President Barack Obama, but what if this same cartoon was published in reference to Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson? Would people have cared so much? No I don't think so because Brother Al and Brother Jesse are not the celebrities that Barack Obama is. I mean Rick Ross has been calling 50 Cent a monkey since their beef started and nobody has said that's wrong.  Why is it wrong when the Post calls a black man a monkey? If the actual issue is a black man being called a monkey then the same people who are outraged over the Post calling Barack a monkey should be outraged over Rick Ross calling 50 a monkey right? I asked this same question on Twitter and Kitty Bradshaw responded because 50 is a rapper and Barack is the president. I responded that it shouldn’t matter. Black pride should be black pride whether president or rapper and the bottom line is nobody should refer to another black person as a monkey.  As I said, we don't care about issues we care about celebrity because we have tabloid morals and pop culture values.
In closing I would like to say the reason we are not taken serious when it comes to real issues is because people know we are full of shit. We only protest and complain when it's the hip thing to do. When the media makes it cool for celebrities to get involved then we all tend to want to get involved. IE: The Jena 6, the Sean Bell murder and Barack Obama's campaign. Once the cameras leave and the next scandal breaks out in Hollywood we tend to just fade away from the situation. Ask yourself if you are about the issues or the celebrity? Tabloid Morals and Pop Culture Values. Streetfully Yours, Sincerely Gangsta Charlamagne Tha God

Stupid Dope Moves Secures Deal with Def Jam to Introduce South Carolina’s First Major Hip-Hop Artist

New Def Jam Signee Lil Ru Already Impacting Billboard Charts
ATLANTA, GA – March 11, 2009 – Famed radio personality Charlamagne Tha God is proud to announce the transition of South Carolina rapper Lil Ru from his Stupid Dope Moves (SDM) lifestyle brand to Hip-Hop powerhouse Def Jam Records. Following extensive negotiations, with the support and assistance from the Stupid Dope Moves infrastructure, Ru finalized his recording contract with the label this week, making him the first South Carolina Hip-Hop artist to land a major recording contract.
The pioneering move is only the most recent for Lil Ru, who attained great success as an independent artist while signed to Stupid Dope Moves. Since first emerging on the scene, the Columbia, South Carolina native has had a string of regional hits, garnering the attention of national Carolina powerhouses like DJ B-Lord, DJ Chuck T and SDM co-founders Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Frosty.com of Columbia’s The Beat 100.1 (WXBT-FM). As a member of the SDM family and through strong ties with local indie label Headhunter Records, it was only a matter of time before Ru’s exposure went from regional to a national audience thanks to features on MTV Jams and BET.com. Now with his current single landing the #88 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and nominated for the 2008 Southern Entertainment Award for Song of the Year, Lil Ru is positioned to blaze a new trail for his home state.
For Charlamagne Tha God, Lil Ru’s success is only the first example of the results of his well-executed vision. Since its inception, Stupid Dope Moves has aimed to bring awareness to North and South Carolina’s vast urban talent pool, which remains widely ignored despite the success of artists like Petey Pablo and Little Brother. The lifestyle brand’s alliance with Headhunter Records further guarantees the Carolina movement’s success. Owned and operated by producer 9 Mill and Lil Bo, Headhunter Records is home to a roster of bonafide stars in the making, including Lil Broad, whose single “Do You Mind” is currently gaining regional momentum. “Stupid Dope Moves and Headhunter Records are just positioning ourselves to be what Poe Boi and Slip ‘n Slide are to Florida; what Swisha House and Rap-A-Lot or to Texas,” explains the former co-host of the syndicated Wendy Williams Experience radio show. “South Carolina and the Carolinas in general are the next region to blow in this Southern Rap movement, which means we are the next region to blow period. Lil Ru is just the beginning. We’ve got an army of artist on deck: Marley Marl, Statehouse, Primo Star, Arab, Lil Brod, Collard Greens; the list goes on. We also have a bevy of producers like 9 Mill, Tony Gunz, Midi Marc, and Vendetta who are bringing a new sound to the game. We built for this...Allah Loves Us.”
About Stupid Dope Moves, Inc.
Owned by Charlamagne, DJFrosty.com and Kevin “P.P.G.” Hunter, Stupid Dope Moves, Inc. made it’s presence known in 2008 with the release of South Crack “The Album” via Lightyear/EMI. The compilation, which showcased South Carolina’s most promising artists, has sold over 16,000 units to date. It has also yielded two Southern Entertainment Award nominations, with both “Hood Hard Reloaded,” featuring Lil Ru and Mac A Don, and “I’m Clean” featuring Headhunter recording artist Collard Greens nominated for Song of the Year. [Editor’s note: On December 17, 2008, Minister Louis Farrakhan was invited by his brother and friend, the Reverend Dr. Michael Pfleger, pastor of The Faith Community of St. Sabina, to deliver remarks at an anti-youth violence rally at the Illinois State Building in downtown Chicago. The purpose of the rally was to demand that politicians pass common sense gun laws and legislation to stop the flow of illegal guns throughout the city and surrounding areas. In The Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful.

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan

I am honored to be here this afternoon, and I greet all of you, my dear brothers and sisters; and especially those parents and grandparents who have lost their loved ones to gun violence, with the greeting words of peace. We say it in the Arabic language: As-Salaam Alaikum, which means Peace Be Unto You. This is a greeting that we should learn, and a greeting that we should practice. Whether you are Christian, Muslim, or Jewish, all of the Israelite prophets greeted their community with: “Shalom, Shalom,” which means peace.

When Jesus walked this earth among us, he never came to his disciples and said, “What’s happening?” or, “What up, Dawg?” He said, “Peace Be With You.” He didn’t speak English; he spoke Ancient Egyptian Arabic, Hebrew and Aramaic, so when Jesus greeted the people, he said, As-Salaam Alaikum, because he, in that greeting, crystallized a prayer. That from his lips and from his hands and from his life you should expect that which would bring peace into your lives.

The cause and effect of wicked policies

There is a saying that reads like this: “Children do what is natural until they learn what is normal.”

Any child that you see, whether it is Black, White, Asian, Hispanic or Native American; whether it is Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu or Buddhist, the child does what is natural, like learning to crawl, pull up on things that will help it to become erect and to walk—we didn’t teach it those things. But then, the child learns to become normal. Normal means that you learn the norms, which are the folkways and the mores of the society or the culture in which you live. But then if we keep watching, we go further and further away from the natural; but yet, we are still considered normal.

Everybody is looking for somebody to straighten out a mess that was made, unfortunately, by those in authority. We cannot stem the violence that is here at the bottom, which is an effect, unless we look at the violence that begins at the top, which is the cause. We are the effect of a cause that we did not stem the tide of, and now it’s manifesting in the children.

Every mother; every grandmother that lost a child, we who are here today feel your pain. Although we are trying to be good and righteous people; we go to church; we pay our tithes; we do what good parents and good people should do, some of us lose faith in God when a misfortune comes into our house. While we can never bring back what we lost, we have to ask the question, “Why should this come into my life?”

There is a verse in the Holy Qur’an, which is the book of scripture of Muslims, that says, “No soul dies but by the permission of God.” God gives life, and He is the ultimate cause of death, so why did He permit this? If these children had not died, would we be here? Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me,” because he had some disciples who were “dissing” children. We live in a society where we are not looking out for the elderly or the young; and many of us who are pastoring, we pay no attention to children because they don’t tithe! So it is only when something affects children that it wakes us up to something terribly wrong!

Dear mothers: Your children did not die in vain, because nothing advances in civilization without the sacrifice of life. Let us refer to the example of the life of Jesus: He had a mother that nurtured him; he came from among a people and a group that evidently were not so good, because the scripture says, “Can any good come out of Nazareth?” As it is with people today who think the same: “Can any good come out of the South Side or the West Side? Can any good come out of Chicago—the murder capital of the world?” Yes. Of course good did come, but that good died young.

Those in positions of power lied on Jesus, because they didn’t want to deal with his truth, so they brought him to court. The people hated Jesus, and the Book says they hated him without a cause. He was rejected of men. He knew what it was to suffer, and he knew what it was to be scourged. And ultimately, he died a violent death, so that others might have a right to the tree of life.

Beloved family; those dear mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers, and friends and relatives are in great pain because someone they loved died in their youth. Grandmothers had to bring their grandchildren to their final resting place. But remember: Your child, your friend and your companion did not die in vain. Every life with God is sacred! And those children that lost their lives are martyrs for the Cause of Justice and Peace and Non-Violence!

The culture of violence starts at the top

We say we want sensible gun laws, but we are demanding it from government at the same time that our government has the highest military budget of any nation in the world; developing more and more weapons to kill more and more people! How can the violence stop on the bottom, when the violence is perpetrated by policies at the top?

It is painful to me to say these truths in the presence of the superintendant of police [Jody P. Weis] and in the presence of other government officials here today, because the truths that I speak, sometimes, are uncomfortable, but it is not done out of hate. I speak these truths because I love; and I want to see things better. Not just better for my people or for my children, but better for all children.

Are our children our assets; or are they liabilities? Do we have problemed children? Or do our children have a problem? And if our children have a problem, they are not the cause—they are the effect.

Every mother in here that has brought forth a child, that child came through you, but not from you. Since it is God Who gives life, then He permits life to be formed in your womb. The Qur’an says that to God is the eventual return of all life. So we come in at some point, and at some point, we have to leave here. If the eventual return is to God, because it is from Him that we came, then every child is a gift from God. Not only to the mother and father, but a gift to that family! A gift to that community! A gift to that nation! A gift to the world!

***

Jesus said, “I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life.” Why do we, as parents, lie to our children? Violence begins with lies, because you’re violating the mind when you tell a lie. When Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free,” what is it that you would be set free from? It is freedom from the things that are the reason why we are assembled today.

In the Bible, Paul said, “We war not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers and the rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places.” High places are where the problems begin!

When you have a lust for something, like Air Jordan shoes or designer clothes, and mother can’t get it for you, why would you steal from your brother or your neighbor because of an inordinate value placed on something that has no real value? The real value is you and your life! Your friendship and brotherly love! The real value is the ability to live together in peace!

But in those high places, there is a lust for oil. Our government and our country is a slave to the energy crisis produced by an inordinate need for oil. The government is just like the drug addict, who will lie and cheat and steal to get their hands on a drug. Any parent in here that has a child that has unfortunately fallen victim to drugs, you know they are artful liars and manipulators. The addict will manipulate their parents and friends who love them, just so to get their hands on something that will allow them to get something that will make them high.

In those high places, there are bad policies developed that are so wicked and deceptive so that our government can extract the wealth of others. You can’t stop drugs in the inner cities or in the suburbs if you don’t understand that the government of the United States is in Afghanistan where all the poppies grow. These drugs weren’t so easily accessible when the Taliban had power, because the drug growth was down then. Once the Taliban lost power, now the drugs are flowing; heroin everywhere, and someone is getting rich at the top, while our children are going to jail for what they have in their possession.

Our real wealth is in our children

In the scriptures of Matthew and Luke, it reads, “For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” As parents, and those in positions of authority, our treasure is not where it should be. Our priorities are not where they should be. And in the Holy Qur’an, you always have the following words shown simultaneously: “Your wealth and your children…” because our children represent our real wealth. But where should our hearts be?

Should our hearts be on the latest Gucci or alligator style? The latest designer-this or the latest bling-bling that? Where should our hearts be? It should be where our treasure is, and our treasure is our children.

I have been practically all over the world, however, everywhere I go in Chicago, I find that it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We who live here are blessed to live in this great city, but it’s a great city that needs a lot of great work to be done. Billions of dollars are spent on constructing huge building projects, but when you look at the education budget, we are not constructing these beautiful young lives as they should be.

The greatest asset of America is her people, and if our treasure is in our people, then the billions of dollars that the government is throwing away to bail out corporations like AIG, Bear Stearns, and Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, why not put those billions of dollars to work on making giants out of these precious gifts—our youth—that God has given to America?

President-elect Barack Obama was a child just like these children who are here. He struggled in his young life, conflicted because he had a White mother and a Black father, and wanted to find his place. However, that young man got a grip on his life, just like we want you, youth, to get a grip on yours. Mr. Obama received an education, and then rose to the top of his class. And, in a meteoric rise, has become the first African American to become president of the United States of America.

Who are our youth now? Who will they be tomorrow if we cultivate them properly? Our youth are like putty; but putty is only valuable in the hands of the one that is going to shape it properly. As we are being shaped by our homes, our churches, and our society, then all of these shapers have to shape up.

The misconstrued power in weapons

Do we need guns? No. Where did they come from? Who gets these violent weapons into the hands of our children? Why aren’t those responsible being prosecuted instead of our children?

In this world, power is what moves people, and because many of us don’t realize that the real power is in the youth, a gun is put into a child’s hand, where they are told, “This is power.” This misconstrued concept of power in a weapon is what causes you to get a man to give up his wallet; or causes somebody to give up their own self to you if you are going to rape them. That is the misuse of weapons.

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad is our teacher, and he taught us that none of us, as Muslims, should carry a weapon—we don’t need them. We are not permitted to carry as much as a pen knife, because our aim is to show the world that we are a people of peace. We are not even permitted to argue with one another, because when you quarrel with one another, you destroy the spirit that would bring you unity, which would give you power to eradicate the impediments in the pathway of your progress.

But if we are always arguing and fighting, particularly in our homes where most of the problems take place, then it’s “I reach for my gun to settle my problem;” or, “I shoot my wife,” or she shoots her husband. Now the child sees guns every time they look at the TV. This is violence that is being promoted, so the violence is now down in the kindergarten. If we have a problem, then we must practice talking it out, because we must not harm our brother.

***

Let’s be truthful in our dealings with each other. Let’s learn how to love, which starts with loving our own self. If you don’t know you, you can’t love you.

Black children have to know themselves in order to love themselves. If our children knew their rich history, their rich culture, their rich heritage, we would have a healthier view of who we are, and Whose we are.

When we see our brother, though he may be a “Crip,” a “Blood;” or he may be a “BG” or a “BD,” we must see that I am looking at my flesh. I am looking at my blood. I’m looking at my self. So if I love my self, and love my neighbor as myself, we can start building community.

I want to work with Father Pfleger, and I want to work with Superintendent Weis and others, to let us try and make this city a peaceful city.

Thank you.

The Honeymoon is over ladies and ghettomen. There should be no more My President is Black Parties. The inauguration has come and gone, so no more
Hip Hop Inauguration balls. There is nothing more to celebrate, people. We have popped our last bottle of champagne for Barack's campaign. Now it is our duty to assist the 44th President of the United States of America by helping ourselves.

We have to serve our own neighborhoods and communities the same way we expect Barack to serve this country. It is time to go to work people.
The club has closed. We shoud have the same feeling right now that we have right after a long holiday weekend. Yes,we all have to report to work on
Monday.

We cannot expect that everything is going to magically change now that Barack has been sworn in .To quote a line from the movie Notorious ,"We can't change the world unless we change ourselves." We have a new president that we believe in, a president who inspires us to do better and be better. That energy is the energy we need to make a change. We are the creators of our Universe. Every wish that we want to create will manifest in our lives. Therefore, our wishes, thoughts, and feelings are very important because they will manifest.

You want an immediate change in your community? Make an immediate change within yourself. Find a community organization to be a part of; if there is none, start one yourself. Round up the youths in the community and after school for an hour clean up your neighborhoods,or take them to the local homeless shelter and let them assist in feeding the less fortunate. Let the youths embrace the energy of being a public servant. Let them know, "Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve."

It is a beautiful sight to see all these celebrities and athletes getting involved in the political process, but now we need them to be involved in the actual process of work. It is great that you and your friends decided to go to D.C. to be a part of history, and I'm sure you had a great time in Club Love, and at Russell Simmons' party, and at the Jay Z concert, but now it is time for you, you and me, to actually put in some work!

If Barack Obama is our leader and leaders lead by example, then let us follow his lead and do what he will be doing for the next four years- working!! We cannot expect him to micromanage our own backyards. That is our job. One does not have to be a celebrity or be rich to make a difference in somebody's life,or to affect someone's community in a positive way.In fact the only thing one has to do is do it.

Let's not forget that Rosa Parks was not a celebrity. She did not star in any movies or grace the covers of any magazines. Martin Luther King Jr. was not an athlete; he did not lead the league in scoring or have his own sneaker contract. Marcus Garvey was not known as the best rapper alive or had several platinum albums under his belt. These were just regular everyday people like you and me who decided they wanted to make a difference. They decided they wanted to serve the people, and we as a people are better off because of their service.

So now let us make the world a better place with our service. We have a President in place who cares about the people because his heart is the heart of a public servant. He is a Harvard grad who could have taken any high paying job he wanted after graduation, but decided to go back to the" hoods" of Chicago and become a community organizer. We know where his heart is. It is with the people and I truly believe he will do all he can for us, but what are we gonna do for ourselves?

I hate to burst your bubble, but Jesus has not returned in the form of Barack Obama. I do know that Jesus was a public servant so to answer the question that has been on bracelets for ages- What Would Jesus Do? At this moment in time he would serve.

If Barack is truly OUR President and if we truly want him to succeed then let us be the public servants that we are destined to be. Our ancestors were enslaved and forced to build this country for the benefit of others. Now we the desecendants of those slaves should willingly rebuild this country for the benefit of ourselves.

In the words of John F. Kennedy,my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for youask what you can do for your country. The answer to that question is serve.

2009 (Intelligence is the new gangsta)
Intelligence is the new gangsta. In fact, intelligence is the old
gangsta but it's the new gangsta to this generation because we have
been dumbed down for so long that we either forgot, never knew or just didn't
acknowledge being intelligent was the most gangsta way to be to begin
with. 2009 is going to be the year of the righteous and the year of the
thinker. 2009 begins an era where knowledge truly does reign supreme
over almost everyone.  (Word to KRS) in fact 09 is a divine year.  If you are
familiar with Supreme Mathematics then you know that nine is born.  You are
born once physically then you are born again mentally when you learn
the true and proper knowledge of yourself.  For example Malcolm Little
was born physically May 19, 1925 but was reborn mentally some where
between 1945 and 1952.  This is when he was incarcerated and introduced
to the Nation of Islam when he learned the true and proper knowledge
of himself.  He was mentally reborn El Hajj Malik Shabazz commonly known
as Malcolm X.

I'm not saying that in 2009 everyone is going to convert to
Islam and change their name but what I am saying is that nine symbolizes
the highest level of change. Change is the basis of growth.Growth is
the basis of life and if you are not constantly growing then you are dying. I
say that all the time because I want people to really grasp that concept
of thinking. The energy of change is all around us right now. Do
you think it's a coincidence that Barack Obama's whole campaign was
based ..? Is it just random he is called the "Agent of Change"?
Hell no that's divine. God designed it that way. His administration
starts this year and if you voted for him you are part of his government.
I voted for the first time ever last year. That alone is the direct
reflection of the growth that change delivers but it doesn't stop
there.

We have to continue the growth process. The way we do that is by educating ourselves.
We have to be the bright, articulate, scholars gangstas and gentlemen that we where born to be.  Education is sexy! Being smart is the shit! I know that last line wasn't the most eloquent way of putting it but I made my point to the people I was trying to reach.
That is the beauty of hip hop and it's the exact reason that hip hop has been the most influential voice among the youth for the past three decades.  It speaks right to us, in our lanquage in our voice.

The problem with hip hop today is most artists are not in tune with what is really going on out here in these streets.  Some of them are too busy playing stupid to realize things are changing.  People are growing and not trying to hear that murder, murder, gangbanging, drug selling, drug using, I will shoot everybody on your block twice, money is all I glorify bullshit they been kicking anymore.  People are trying to be educated and informed not misguided and misled.  Salute to all the rappers that encouraged the youth  to vote last year. That sounded real cute at all the award shows, on 106 & Park and in in your interviews in XXL and Ozone but how many of you artist have really taken the time to educate yourselves on  government? Obama is the president elect but the problems in our society didn't magically disappear when he won.  We have to continue to encourage the youth to educate themselves on what's going on in these streets as well as government before they get discouraged.

They're going to start to wonder why Obama is in the white house but people still keep getting killed in our communites. Obama is in the White House but mama still complaining about money because of this thing called the recession.  Educate the babies people add gas to the spark that has been lit in these young peoples minds. My TV stays on news and sports channels. These television executives wonder why shows like Real Chance of Love are suffering in ratings?  You know why, because that demographic you thought was in to this mindless nonsense is in to Obama now.  They are trying to figure out ways to work for their community not work for Diddy.  50 Cent's show Money and the Power got cancelled by MTV. Why? Declining viewership among 12-34 year olds.  MTV wants to revamp their image. Brian Graden, President of Entertainment at MTV Network's music channels and President of logo says, "Our shows are going to focus less on loud and silly hooks and more on young people proving themselves." These are themes that are consistent with the Obama generation. Wow even MTV realizes change has come, even MTV realizes intelligence is the new gangsta.

Rappers, Radio Personalities, bloggers and anyone with a voice, we don't have to dumb down for our audiences.  People want to be educated!  Intelligence is the new gangsta.  Dave Chappelle and the Boondocks are perfect examples of how you can educate and entertain.  Killer Mike and Ice Cube are perfect examples of real gangsta rap.  Why?  Cause Saying fuck another rapper is easy but saying fuck George Bush takes balls.  There is nothing wrong with worldstarhiphop and mediatakeout.com but your mental diet can not just consist of the bullshit content that's on those sites.  Sure its entertaining to watch Max B clown Jim Jones for the 1000th time, and I love to see Tony Yayo talk shit about everybody but I love being enlightned more.  Go to  Finalcall.com and read Minister Farrakhan's True Role of Government.  In it he says Education is not a privelage, education is a human right.  It is knowledge that seperates the human from the beast, therefore, the best possible education should be given by government and guaranteed by government.  Otherwise the government is not guaranteeing the unalienable right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  I say not only demand it from our government but demand it from ourselves.  If you are not in school or college go to the library!  Self education is like masterbation!  I don't need to pay anybody to fuck me!  The library got all the knowledge I need for free.  Better yet I can google what it is I'm trying to learn about. Intelligence is the new gangsta.

Remember that old cartoon that showed the brother with the gun and his pants hanging off his ass and the bandana around his mouth and everybody was laughing at him?  Doesn't that remind you of your favorite rapper?  Well in the same cartoon it showed a brother in a graduation cap and gown with a degree in his hand and everybody was running and screaming scared to death. You know why because intelligence has always been gangsta! My little cousin is in 9th grade he's all caught up in SWAG.  He says, "I got SWAG."  "Check out my SWAG." I tried to explain to him that SWAG is corny and it is just away for a man to call another man sexy, but then I realized I have to speak to him in his language.  That is when I let him know that SWAG means to Study, Work, and Graduate. Study hard and get that education that is your human right because you are a citizen of the US.  Work hard, get a job, or a internship while your'e in school; get your hands dirty now so you can keep them clean later by being the boss.  And for Christ sake please graduate!!!  Take that jewel with you all through high school and college little homie.  For those not in school SWAG means to Study, Work, and Grow!  Study learn everything you can about God, government, life and business.  Work hard at making your community a better place to live, work hard at raising your seeds the right way and getting your family straight, and don't be afraid to grow and become the kings and queens that we are destined to be.  That is S.W.A.G!!  Not skinny jeans, colorful sneakers, lip peircings and all that other bullshit Lil Wayne got going on.

Intelligence is the old Gangsta, Smart is the Old Sexy and 2009 is the rebirth of the thinker, don't be afraid to express your unique brilliance, and God given genius. This is the era that Knowledge will reign supreme over nearly everyone. Happy New Year America.

Peep this embarassant to Yankee Cap lovers everywhere…Hip Hop flew down south for the winter of '03 and hasn't been back since. Guys like this are the reason Hip Hop decided to permanetely reside below the Mason Dixon Line. Let's see what this video offers….

1) Nike ACG Boots in 80 degree Cali Weather, fashion no no? Check!

2) T Shirt with the V Neck plunging too low showing man cleavage, homo? Check!

3) Corny ass dance to go with a corny ass record? Check!

It's a science in coming up with dances to go with records. Don't! Let the dance come first organically, then create the song! These guys sat around and actually thought about this, and decided it was a good idea. Inspiration for this dance…either Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy's movie "Life" when they where punished for trying to steal pie and had to stand on bottles, or Ron Browz and his dudes got stopped by police and had to take a sobriety test. Cop says, "Stand on one leg and hold the word window for as long as you can."

So I saw on Allhiphop.com different rappers naming their top 5 Dead or Alive. I'm not a rapper but I am a radio personality/cultural critic and the spirit moved me to express my opinion on who I feel the top 5 ever are. These are just my personal picks, when you sitting around with the homies kicking the shit over the holidays, taking shots of patron, passing around some Stupid Dope Purp this topic always makes for great discussion.....

5)Rakim Allah- I don't even understand how Rakim can not be in everyone's top 5. If your over the age of 25 years old and call yourself a hip hop head and don't think 'Paid In Full' is one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time then your about as useless as Young Berg's security. Personally after my prayers in the morning the one song that gets me motivated and gets my energy right for the day is 'I Ain't No Joke' any rapper that tells you Rakim wasn't and influence probably isn't even worth downloading........

4)T.I.P.-Clifford Harris is one of the Greatest MC's of all Time. I have been saying it since Urban Legend see I grew up in South Carolina doing everything I wasn't supposed to be doing and T.I.P. came out on I'm Serious speaking to all the little bad ass kids like myself from the south who where cutting up quarterspoons of hard (that's 7 grams where I come from) when I heard this brother spit this line on 'I'm Serious' To play me, ba-by, hey he,gone need a track from God featuring Jesus or Jay-Z. I was like this dude is the truth, for all those not convinced do yourself a favor pick up I'm Serious, In The Streets Vol.1,2,and 3, Trap Music, Urban Legend, King, and Paper Trail. You can skip over T.I. vs.T.I.P. except for the track 'Tell Them I Said That' and you have to have the Gangsta Grillz Down with the King. Then you might understand what all the hype is about....

3)Nasir Jones-Bloggers can say what they want about Nas. His baby mama's a whore, his wife's a slut, he's not a boss, he's irrelevant, so what none of that takes away the fact that he's one of the G.O.A.T.'s. His last three albums Streets Disciple, Hip Hop is Dead, and Untitiled shit on anything your favorite rapper has ever thought about writing. Thought provoking rhymes, lyrical content has socially redeeming value, all MC's can learn something from Nas and if you think he fell off to quote a MC he Ethered 'do you dudes listen to music or do you just skim thru it?'

2) Scarface-Scarface the rapper did more than Scarface the movie to me. Damn right it did honestly I have never even sat down and watched the whole Scarface movie all the way through but I can quote a Scarface lyric in a heartbeat. Scarface is to down south rap what Rakim is to east coast rap the same way brothers like Nas or fruit off of Rakim's tree brothers like TI or fruit off of Scarface's tree. That's why I laugh when people say it's no lyricist or true MC's in the south honestly I get offended when I see people mention the Greatest of all Time and it's no mention of Scarface it's almost like the game has a biased against putting a southern MC in such high regard. Defintion of Emeritus retired or honorably discharged from active professional duty, but retaining the title of one's office or position. What's Scarface's title? One of the Greatest MC's of All Time period....

1)Ghostface Killah-That's right Tony Starks is my favorite MC of all time!!! Who got better wordplay? Name me and MC that can paint a more vivid picture? When it comes to expressing emotions on a record who can bring you into his world better and make you say damn i'm going thru the same shit! On his debut solo album 'Ironman' that song 'Wildflower' where he talks about a chick who was doing him dirty? I was going thru the same thing he was going thru I should a smacked her but the god said chilllllllll!! If you never heard the record you wouldn't understand. Who drops more classic albums than Ghost? Supreme Clientle, Pretty Toney yeah he shouldn't of did the record with Missy but all greats make mistakes. Can't forget Source Magazine Verse of the Year 97 for the bars he spit on 'Impossible' off Wu Tang Forever album. No MC is more prolific than Ghost!!

Honorable mention: Killah Mike and Prodigy of Mobb Deep only from 95 to 99 though. Prodigy used to be in my top 5 but after Murda Music he just kind of fell off. I think he got beat up too many times I mean you can't spit all that tough talk knowing it's someone out there whose listening saying when I whipped his ass he didn't pull out no burner. He stopped believing himself and it showed in his rhymes. Killah Mike it might not be enough of ya'll listening to the big homie to understand why one day he will be in everyone's top 5. Go to youtube and type in his name and I guarantee you will thank me for it later in fact if T.I. signs Killa Mike to Grand Hustle and puts the machine behind him (not the machine that was put behind Big Kuntry either, the machine machine) then those Top 5 Dead or Alive talks for Killah Mike will start ASAP. Cthagod i'm starting them now......
