"The Kildare-based Chayka have a quite useless Myspace page that foolishly lists the late Nina Simone as a "friend". But we forgive them - their debut EP is chocka with good stuff, including the mellow clarinet tones and vocals supplied by Orlaith Gilcreest. "Carrying On" is a slow soul rock ballad, with fine harmonies. "Top of your Stairs" is more acoustic, with breathy and sinister vocals and lyrics that suggest you shouldn't play in the dark alone. "Vino Rose" is heavy in the guitars, with funk-lite stylings and a swamp rock rhythm."

Well Mr Hayden, Nina is my fourth cousin once removed on my mother's side. Her kin come from Nenagh, Tipperary. Hence her name. She used to do a great version of the "Ratlin Bog" every Christmas.
