so, as many of you know, i grew up in a pretty sheltered, strict and religious environment. i wasn't allowed to "trick or treat" until i was in about 5th grade, i never missed sunday school, and i even remember my parents and maternal grandmother discussing the potential of joining the
boycott on disney for hosting 'gay day' at walt disney world.
(**tangent** i also remember my father once screaming into the telephone at a sprint telemarketer who was trying to sell him a deal on long-distance calls: "don't EVER call here again! i don't know HOW many times i have to tell you PEOPLE, i don't support sprint because they support GAYS! ---my father's current wireless provider? sprint pcs)
another childhood memory that showed up in my thoughts recently was of a bootleg video i watched many times as a child (my father seemed to find no shame in connecting his rather larger camcorder to the vcr to illegally copy rented videos). it was anti-drug propaganda in the form of every child's favorite saturday morning friends (many of which, at the time, i had never seen or heard of, sheltered). it aired on television for the first time, so i've since read, in 1990 on several stations, with an introduction by (lol) president bush sr and the mrs.
a cheezy little cartoon.
