A first for many last night, breaking in a new hall at the renovated VFW -- aka "West Cambridge Youth and Community Center" -- as an experiment for the Thursday Dance. Very special guest Cal Howard joined us on bass with Lisa Greenleaf calling. Great night. A brief video.

In other news, Max has been hired at CDSS as this year's Youth Projects Intern, adding to the great work done by Ethan Hazzard-Watkins last year.
He is looking forward to hearing from and speaking to folks across the country about music and dance, so please feel free to come up to him at a dance and chat or e-mail him at max@cdss.org.

And...
... we've got a new track or two up. Yee-haw!

-Very special dance at the reconstructed VFW 10/25 (neffa.org)

Also, please don't forget to friend us on Facebook.

ps Thanks to Gary for editing the new track.

Nor'easter is excited to begin a mentorship project with multi-instrumentalist Keith Murphy.  Keith is a veteran contra dance musician renowned for his playing with bands Nightingale, Assembly, and Big Bandemonium, among others.  A much sought after accompanist for both dance and concert, he is well known for his distinctive guitar playing as well as for his expertise on mandolin and piano.   We are thrilled to have Keith working with us for a period of several months beginning this May.  We'll be exploring the nuances of playing for dances, as well as arrangements and other musical ideas.

As part of this mentoring, we're also beginning a caller/band partnership with caller Chris Weiler.  We have scheduled a number of dances together over the next six months and we are really looking forward to exploring caller/band dynamics and dance programming.  It is a pleasure to be working with Chris.

On May 3, we're having our first contra dance with Keith at the Stone Church in Brattleboro, with Chris Weiler calling.    The dance is open to the public and we hope to see you there!

Our mentoring project with Keith is supported in part by an Outreach Grant from the Country Dance and Song Society.   We are very grateful to CDSS for their support.
