Last night Slang stepped on stage to compete with four other San Diego area bands and was unlucky enough to go first. As a band we had a few technical issues and were able to over come most of them. However, the house didn't have our vocals in our monitors so, harmonizing was pretty much impossible.
In hindsight, there are a few things we should have done to ensure a level playing field and would suggest to anyone going forward in the competition. Take the time to check that the house has you dialed in when it comes to vocals. If your drummer is accustom to playing a large professional drum kit, strip it down to a five piece similar to a Toys ‘R’ Us kit to prepare for the completion. Don’t be afraid to tell the judges what you think and give them what for!
All in all it was a fun learning experience, which could have been better on everyone’s part. We are only sorry the fans didn’t get to hear what the band really sounds like…
