I've warned about ocean acidification for a long time. Now, we have more bad news. Oceans are 30% more acidic today than in 1750 and worse still in the Arctic. Check out the daming report in the Guardian and then watch the video below for the relevance.

James Balog is part of an impressive team which has conducted an extreme ice survey, to utilize time-lapse photography to remove ALL DOUBT as to the science of glacial loss, a key factor in global warming and climate change.

My position is very simple:

Everyone with a pulse needs to see this video.

I love to rail against mountaintop removal mining. It is a disgusting and highly unpatriotic practice. Nevertheless, President Obama and his predecessors have allowed this environmental holocaust to continue essentially unabated. Now, a lovely new film about the people who live near coal mines in the United States, Coal County is poised for release.

Back in July, it was screened for a coal community. The video following that event appears below.

If you agree to host a screening party, the Sierra Club will send you a free copy of the film on DVD. Details here.

Young author William Kamkwamba's appearance on The Daily Show surrounding the release of his new book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope, was truly inspired and inspiring. I exhort you to view it ASAP:

..

> William's book is available here.

In addition to funding libraries, over time, the HyRail will bring broad famine to a permanent finale on every continent. Good people, such as William obviously is, no longer will need withdraw from school in order to work barren fields. Instead, they will have the option of becoming bloggers on account of the millions of households we will cover with WiFi. Now, that's even MORE powerful! Ready for even more than that? Watch William's appearance at TED:

I just became a champion of our national parks with the Sierra Club, and entered to win a trip to Yosemite and San Francisco – you should too. And be sure to let the Sierra Club know I referred you!

I keep harping on the need for a cultural effort in the fight against global warming. Well, the boys of Duran Duran (along with a cadre of other popular leaders) have assembled an impressive remake of Beds Are Burning with a strong message. It is superb. Watch it below.

Sorry to be away for so long! Big things are happening with the HyRail but I've had to keep them to myself.

As you await the moment that I can share the amazing details with you, check out the teaser below. It's for the film FUEL which is in select theaters now. It is the unofficial sequel to An Inconvenient Truth and worthy of your attention.

Sorry to continue keeping you in the dark about the first nation where the HyRail will be constructed. We have big things happening in the background, with momentum growing almost by the day. What I can tell you is that we now are engaged in dialog with decisionmakers on multiple continents and whichever one of them commits first will have the system (and, of course, we still have our frontrunner).

While you wait, you can take heart that the state of Michigan is continuing its work of soliciting public comment on how to force Governor Granholm to do her job and sign the public private partnership which has been on her desk for 5 years. To wit, on July 31, Justin Sutton was in Grand Rapids for the third task force hearing. Afterward, he recorded a 25-minute interview with the local public television station. It is linked here.

Sitting beside Justin was Adam Nehr, the company's chief technology officer whom I recruited. Adam and Justin did a fabulous job! The interview is informative and I am confident that you will feel very good about our work after you have watched it.

The good people at ClimateCounts.org have made it easy for you. They have partnered with Mozes.com to provide an extremely convenient system for you. All you do is text the word GREEN followed by the name of the brand and you'll receive the ClimateCounts.org scorecard by reply.

You'll find all of the instructions at

By now, I imagine that you've heard about the Deutsche Bank Carbon Clock in midtown Manhattan. It's a truly fabulous invention and I commend everyone involved in the project. Well, Jim Lehrer covered it in his June 30 newscast. You can watch it at the link below. Just click on Chapter 7 along the bottom of the page to advance to the end for the report on the Carbon Counter.
