New song "Clouds Over Pickering Wharf" has been uploaded.

Just a slight change of pace from prior output - childlike whimsy while taking in awe of magnificent clouds over Pickering Wharf.

Enjoy.

All right, it's finally here!

As promised, I've posted a new song titled "Spine" for your listening pleasure. It is, in fact, an instrumental version; in the not-too-distant future I'll post a version of Spine with vocals.

Feel free to rate it, and/or leave a comment!

Yet another vast sea of empty time and space between updates... well, this one isn't going to include a music upload - though I am working on it, I promise!!

To start things off, in the second sentence of all things, I had asked one of my good friends, a month or so ago, about playing this weekend for the Burlington arts festival on the common in (where else?) Burlington, Massachusetts. I played through a thirty-minute set, fraught with a few keyboard and sound glitches, but nonetheless those who gathered around the gazebo, as well the other performers, appreciated what I brought to the table, so to speak.

(In case one might be wondering: no, I did not wear my labcoat or glasses; this was, after all, a family-friendly event, and I did not wish to make a bizarre first impression. Oh yes; also, this happened to be a jazz and folk music festival.)

Just before I went on, my back decided to tell me it wasn't in the best of moods, but I didn't let that stop me. All the same, it wasn't a terribly pleasant sensation. To top this off, later on that day, after the event had long wound down, I developed a sore throat, which ultimately blew up the next day into a low-grade fever. One must suffer for his or her art, I suppose!

In continuing to create music, I'm trying to slowly release myself from the shackles of pedagogy that's been burned into my head from the classical piano lessons I'd taken long ago, and be able to improvise more readily. This does mean a lot more pounding on the keyboard than I'd been doing up until now, but it's a start, so far, to simply play whatever comes to mind without worry of the mistakes.

But yes, I do have a couple of songs in the works that appear to be progressing nicely; with reference to the update non-schedule I've had thus far, I'm sure they'll be posted in the next year or three. Realistically, if I keep at it and finish them, you should find them posted in a week or so.

Thanks for reading!

Yesterday, I became an official member of The Golden Hell performing keyboards and programming, having left Lucretia's Daggers after a final performance with them in late October.

Best of luck to LD, and let's hope the new year is filled with good fortune for all.

Current mood:  cranky
I'm trying to get over what seems to have started as a cold on Monday, and after having dropped by the local CVS tonight, originally for the purpose of picking up some cough suppressant so I wouldn't cough myself awake during the night, a pharmacist at the counter had persuaded me to instead get some expectorant - Robitussin, in this case - to assist with clearing my insides out. Needless to say, I awoke at four in the morning to find myself coughing again, and haven't really been able to return to bed since. Oh yes, and my voice is still a bit on the croaky side.

The game plan so far has been involving lots of herbal tea (thanks, Trish!), rest, water and other non-carbonated, non-alcoholic fluids, though I'm considering a trip to the doctor later today if the microbes within me continue their successful attempts to retain a stranglehold on my immune system. Maybe I could enlist a group of micro-miniaturized medical researchers on board a micro-miniaturized ship to help me out? And while they're there, they may as well take tissue samples out of curiosity....

PS As some may have noticed, the dankupka.com website is currently one very short page with a few links tossed in for good measure. I make no promises as to when it will return to its fully-working state, but I can promise that it's not going away at any time yet!

Current mood:  satisfied
It's been a few eras, maybe an eon since I've last posted anything new.

Fear not, as I am alive and well... and have furnished, for your listening pleasure, a new song - aptly titled "Nova". It's a strange mix of pseudo-jazz piano-playing, Chinese flute, Native American chant, and various vocal samples from a "Methods of Mayhem" audio sample CD I keep around for that sort of thing. All on a bouncy kick drum with a cutup drum beat thrown on top. Disparate entities come together to form a rather coherent (and fun!) track.

Current mood:  relaxed
For your curiosity, I've uploaded a new "song" of sorts - a demo track featuring not only synths, but also my electric guitar (played by me), and also my voice (also... hummed by me). I'll be building on this idea for an updated track.

In the meanwhile, stream/download and enjoy.

Current mood:  bored
I am on vacation from work this week. I'll more than likely crank out a few tunes, or ideas at least, over the course, all the while looking for 1. pubs that do karaoke 2. people to form a band 3. pubs or other venues that may have an "amateur night' for the purpose of avoiding stir-craziness.

(I don't get out much, I know.)

I've posted a song on my website (http://www.dankupka.com/m8.mp3) that demonstrates my willingness to make an attempt at playing a 6-string electric guitar. It's not perfect, but I don't think it's downright atrocious, either.

And, if you're in the area, feel free to track me down to one of several pubs where I more than likely will be performing - or, at least, be singing to a Simple Minds song, or something...

Stay tuned.

Current mood:  okay
I decided to make music.  Have a listen to the ambient "Shadowdream".  This may not be the absolute, final version, but I like how it's come, so far.  Feel free to leave comments and suggestions.
