It's been a wonderful wonderful trip. Joey and I have enjoyed every minute of it and we met a family here that will probably be close with for life. Robert Pratt (the promoter over here) has turned out to be a strong player in the UK touring world, very organized and even more so, an absolute joy of a man to spend time with. He kept us in stitches, laughing the whole trip! Robert has already asked us about coming back over here in late May for another week tour on our own. He's supposed to be coming to Nashville again in mid-December and we'll get together and talk then. He sees a big future for us in the UK and beyond and would just like to be a part of it. We told him we'd love that.
All the shows were fun, but the people we met while we've been here have been the best. One family in particular. The Kirwan's (below). We're going to miss them. We didn't get to see that much of Ireland or Scotland, but what we saw was beautiful. History is everywhere.
Hope you've all had a great week. See you soon.

Hi all,
We're having big fun in Ireland. We're here in Belfast today. We played a show in Omagh yesterday and in Glasgow, Scotland the night before. The people here are so friendly and they absolutely LOVE country music, so we're fitting in well. This is our first time over here and besides getting to play shows, it's been a fantastic vacation for us so far. Joey's been being adventurous and trying lots of different kinds of food...blood-pudding, haggis (sheep innards) and even Ostrich. Me, not so much. I've been eating fish & chips and ribeye steak! We went to our first Irish pub last night and tasted our first authentic Guiness. The band there was playing old country songs and we drank our first real Guiness!

We've been so busy this week with the CMA festivities and have Joey's
mom and sisters in town, we didn't hardly even have time to get excited
about our trip. But we packed last night and woke up today make a
mad-dash to the airport, dropping off our truck and finally using our
passports at check. The flights here were pretty uneventful, except
that during the six hour leg from Newark to Edinburgh, they had power
outlets at each seat. So I was able to spend the whole flight editing
our new Christmas video on my laptop. Joey read her book next to me and
napped. By the time we touched down in Scotland, all of the editing was
pretty much done and we were more than ready to get out of our seats
and stretch.
After passing through customs, a driver with a sign that said
"Joey+Rory" found us and we were off heading towards Glascow, where
we'll be playing our first show over here tomorrow evening. There were
so many 'different' things that we noticed right away during our first
hour in the country. At the coffee shop, instead of asking if we wanted
our coffee "to go" that asked if we'd like our coffee "take away". Of
course, all the drivers were on the wrong side of their cars. We'd
heard that, but the experience heading down the highway is a bit
nerve-racking. Instead of 'merge' signs on the roads, they say 'give
way' and the as the door in the elevator at the hotel closes " a little
Scottish voice says "mind the door please". Lots of fun stuff.
At breakfast, Joey tried the blood pudding and the haggis. I stuck with
eggs and sausage. The eggs were like ours, only poached, but the
sausage, doesn't taste anything like ours. After some quick breakfast,
we took a long nap (we had flown all night to get here), then later
this evening we walked a few blocks to a neat little restaurant called
The Grill On The Corner. Once again, I stuck with something I
knew...Ribeye steak, buy Joey got adventurous again and tried the
Ostrich. I had a bite. Gamey, but not bad.
We had a great time sitting and visiting with another couple that are
over here to play the shows as well. The really surprising thing was,
while we were having dinner, a Scottish young girl that was bringing us
our meals, saw us and got all excited. She said "you're the singers
from America...Rory and Joey!". We couldn't believe it. Our first meal
in Scotland and someone knows our music! What a great big small world
this is! The girl was so nervous and sweet.
Afterwards, we walked home and before I could even start typing
this...my bride was asleep. It's been a wonderful first day of our
trip. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
- Rory

Hi everyone! Joey and I are in Europe playing a few shows this week. We flew into Edinburgh and a driver took us to Glascow where we checked into our hotel to get some sleep. We're 6 hours ahead of Nashville here. It was an all-night flight and we arrived in the morning. Had breakfast (Joey tried the blood-pudding and the haggis...I haven't got my nerve up yet), then slept for a few hours. We're about to get cleaned up and go have dinner with the other artists that have traveled here with us. Should be a fun evening. Our first show is tomorrow on a Ferryboat here in Glascow, then on to Ireland the next morning. Rory

Known for bringing beautiful harmonies, authenticity and romance back to country music, husband/wife duo Joey+Rory are offering their take on holiday traditions this November with their poignant single “It’s Christmas Time” and a unique children’s album from songwriter think-tank The Song Trust entitled Merry Kidsmas. The couple is partnering with CMT One Country for both projects. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of “It’s Christmas Time” will be donated to the local affiliate of Feeding America, The Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, and a portion of the proceeds from Merry Kidsmas will benefit the USO through the end of 2009.
While the single and album are two distinctive works, the message is the same. “We’re incredibly grateful for an amazing year and hope to share some of that good fortune this holiday season. CMT helped launch our career, so we’re really excited to team-up with CMT One Country in the spirit of giving,” says Joey.
The Joey+Rory single “It’s Christmas Time” is a tune written during a stay at Joey’s family farmhouse in Indiana. It will be released digitally on November 24 and has been serviced to country radio for adds on November 16.
“Just sitting in the house where Joey grew up made me think about all the Christmases she spent there,” Rory explains. “All the trees they picked out and decorated, all the gifts wrapped while the kids tried to sneak downstairs, all the Christmas dinners cooked and the last-minute guests who showed up at their door. I woke up early in the morning before anyone else, pulled out my guitar and wrote the song with all that in mind.” The single was produced by bluegrass legend Carl Jackson, who also produced the duo’s debut album. Hear "It's Christmas Time," "Box of Rocks" and "Bring Him Home Santa" on Joey and Rory's website and Myspace page. The second holiday project, Merry Kidsmas (Giantslayer Records/S1 Songs/Welk Music Group), is a 12-song collection sung by everyday kids of all ages and created by The Song Trust. Founded in Nashville TN, The Song Trust is a collaborative group committed to creating and delivering music from the perspective where the song, not the singer, is the star. True to concept, Merry Kidsmas lists only writer credits and no singer credits. The first track on the album, “Bring Him Home Santa,” was originally released to country radio in December 2007 causing an immediate national reaction. Sung by an anonymous 6-year old girl asking Santa to bring her father home for Christmas, the single shot to #29 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart, spawned a viral internet video that received over 600,000 views and solicited thousands of comments from families with loved ones in the military. Following that success, The Song Trust spent the next year finding or creating an album’s worth of songs that would continue to look at the Christmas season from a child’s perspective, to be sung by kids of all ages, resulting in the Merry Kidsmas CD.
The album features 9 original songs co-written by members of The Song Trust, including the future holiday standards “Bring Him Home Santa” and “Box of Rocks,” both of which will be released to radio November 16. The CD also offers new takes on the holiday favorites “(All I Want For Christmas is My) Two Front Teeth,” Wudolph (the Red Nosed Reindeer)” and the “Little Drummer Boy.” Merry Kidsmas was co-produced by Tim Johnson and will be available in stores on October 27th.
