Last night we got the awesome job of opening the show for a band that has a REAL record contract and tours the country!
Saving Jane is originally from our home town of Columbus Ohio. You can you-tube that band name if you are not familiar with them. Their music videos and singles like "Super Girl" have received lots of air play.
Yes, this is a "girl" band. I don't rock out to their tunes while driving to work. But our band, Jaded Angel, also features female vocals. That helped our 90 minute opener go over well with the crowd. The people at Captain Jack's and the entire audience treated us great! Thanks to all of you who saw the show.
And even though I said this was girl music, I was impressed and surprised when they started playing "Sweet Child of Mine" from GNR and "With or Without You" from U2. I didn't mind all the estrogen pop songs since the 5 of them put on a high energy show and were clearly well rehearsed at what they do.
For a local band like us, who have day jobs and play covers on the weekend, being asked to kick off a show for professionals like Saving Jane was a huge break and really kind of an honor. I feel like we were brought up from the minor leagues to step up to home plate with the all stars. I will use my bragging rights on this one, because a lot of hard work is paying off right now. With our foot in the door, we will try to get the attention of other national acts for whom we can warm up the crowd.
Playing bars is a lot of fun, but when you are on the ticket for a "real" rock show, you can't really compare the experience. It is a whole new level of excitement and we hope to do it again soon!
