MWOW would like to welcome it's newest member Carol!  This chick has it all and we are thrilled to have her join us! She sings alto and plays the french horn (in addition to many other talents) so be sure to welcome her at the next event you attend!

The Wives attended three weekends of Northern and we had a great time! It's so much fun to see our far away music friends and have fresh audiences. CD sales went really well and as always fun was had by all.

MWOW Nano (that's just a small group of us) visited Kansas to preform at the Festival there and to do an evening concert. After a few snags involving rental cars, hotel rooms and NASCAR the week went very smoothly! We are looking forward to a repeat performance next year.... on a weekend where NASCAR isn't in town to snag all the rooms and rentals.

We are still recording! If we seem quiet for a while that is because we are busy in the studio. Almost all of the vocals are done (and that's a lot of vocals you know) and we are very excited. It is going to be a great mix of traditional and original material with more instrumentation then many of our previous albums. It will also include many of the new songs so many of you are requesting! We can't wait to have it out around St. Patrick's Day of 2009.

Well we are back in the studio! Instrumental tracks are being laid down for our fourth album which should be out by late 2008 or early 2009! Album Four as we will call it (since we haven't picked a title yet) is going to be AMAZING with a great mix of original songs and traditional classics. If you have been attending our live shows at Faire, The El Rey in Hollywood or the Grove of Anaheim you have most likely heard some of the great tracks that will be on this CD! If you missed them check out some clips on our YouTube channel.

Keep up to date by checking back here, visiting our web site or joining our mailing list!

The Merry Wives of Windsor are seeking one awesome woman to come play with us. We play at Renaissance Faires around Southern California and sometimes even venture up North. We usually play 2 to 3 large shows a year outside of the Renaissance Faire circuit. This past year we played The Galaxy, The Orange International Street Faire, The Derby and The Grove. We have released three CDs and we will be recording a fourth sometime in our future.

We currently have nine members in the Wives and we are seeking the magical 10th. We have Bouzouki, Mandolin, Bodhran, Fiddle & Bass as our core instruments. If you can expand on that list, come show us! We rehearse Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 10:pm in Pasadena. Rehearsals are required. We do take small breaks but we are a year around group.

Here is what we need:

Alto (F2 - D5)
Strong sight reading skills
Instrumentation a plus (please bring the instrument to the audition if you want it to count)
Previous Renaissance Faire experience desired but NOT required
Team player with a love for group action (no - NOT like that)
21 or older

The audition will include the following elements:

One song, acapella, any genre - but tell us a story with your singing
One Mwow song for which we will provide music in advance
You will sight read one or more Mwow songs
You will play any instruments that you wish to be considered as part of your audition
You will sing each Mwow song that we use in the audition with a soprano and mezzo; we will be looking at blend and balance
You will rehearse with us on the evening of the audition to see how we all work together. This also allows you to decide if you like how we work.

The first four steps of the audition will take place with the directors and a bouzouki player only. The rest of the audition will be during rehearsal with all members of the band plus auditionees.

The auditions will take place on:

Tuesday, January 15 starting at 6:30pm in Pasadena. You need to plan on being there until 10:pm though we may break earlier than that.

Thanks so much! We are really looking forward to meeting you.
The Merry Wives of Windsor

If you are interested contact Heather at heathergreene AT sbcglobal DOT net (Obviously change to normal email format) to set up an audition time and to receive your music.

Dear Merry Wives of Windsor Friends,

Happy Holidays!  In the grand tradition of Family Holiday Letters everywhere, we would like to take some time to tell you what's been going on with us:

Claire has been keeping busy trying to break the record for most strings broken in a single evening.  She came close at the Grove, unfortunately there's no category for most strings broken in a single song.  She is, however, the ranking champion for most strings tuned in a single thirty-minute time-period.  Darien is currently formulating a business plan that includes her fiddle-playing, the funny hats she crochets, and Burning Man.  We'll keep you informed as this develops.  Heather continues to direct the Wives, her Christmas Caroling group, her three, er, two children (sorry Stu), and her department with WDI.  We're pretty sure she'll get some sleep some time in January.

Jenny is almost done with school!  Children everywhere can look forward to the hottest History Teacher ever.  Judi works for a company that works for a company that works for an agency that was started by the government, but isn't actually a government agency.  She loves her job, but only from 6am to 4pm excluding holidays and weekends and every other Friday.  Kathy has ambitions of playing an instrument (besides clapping) with the band.  This might actually happen now that her house and garden addition are completed!  She is also secretly Wonder Woman.  Don't tell.

Kimi has GRAUDATED!! YAY!!! She's working toward her teaching credential.  We would say something else about hot teachers; however she'll be teaching elementary school, so we'll just say congratulations.  Liz is enjoying her work as a licensed monkey wrangler.  Her oldest monkey is driving now, so those who live near the Inland Empire beware and buckle-up.  Myra continues to be a wife and mom and looks forward to going back to school full-time in January. She also looks forward to growing an extra limb or four so she can play all of her instruments at once!  This might tie in to Darien's whole Burning-Fiddle-Hat thing, we're not sure.

Tiffney has moved to Northern California to pursue an exciting job opportunity with Mozilla.  We'll miss seeing her in Chevrons, but we'll look forward to her visits, (and her margaritas!).  Casey, Tappy, Stephen and Stu are Boggards and thus male.  But we won't hold that against them.  No Boys, we won't hold anything else against you either.

So that's everyone.  The Merry Wives as a whole have made some major strides this year.  We put out our new album, Tales from Windsor's Tavern which is available online at www.cdbaby.com along with our two other albums, Here's to the Men, and Our Revels Now Begin.  Just a reminder, our CDs make excellent stocking stuffers!

We're also now officially an all-girl band, the only all-female Renaissance Band with instruments in the country!  We're very proud of our instrumentalists and how far they've come this past year, and we continue to expand our sound and our collection of instruments!  Look for some new sounds coming soon!

We're also extremely gratified that we were able to play at The Grove of Anaheim, the World Famous Derby Club, the Orange County International Street Fair, and the Galaxy Theater this year, in addition to our regular participation in the Renaissance Pleasure Faire, Northern California Renaissance Faire and other small Renaissance Faires throughout the Southland. We would also like to thank our friends, The World Famous Poxy Boggards and The Fenians, for letting us start off the night for them this year.

Mostly we would like to thank everyone for a fantastic year!  We truly could not have done it without you!  Our friends take us places we never imagined, and allow us to grow in ways we never thought possible, and for that, we are truly thankful.  Seasons Greetings to you and your families!

Yours Truly,
The Merry Wives of Windsor

We hope everyone had a great Halloween! Now that the candy and costume craze is over.... it's time to focus on other important things like the upcoming Wives show at the GROVE of Anaheim!

This is a huge show for us and we really hope to see lots of our friends there! The show is November 24th, the Saturday after Thanksgiving! The grove is located in Anaheim, right next to Angel's stadium. We are opening for the Fenians who are a very fun, internationally touring Irish band. They will be filming a DVD that night so it's sure to be a great show (Who knows? You might be immortalized in their video!)

Tickets are available at www.MWOW.net . The price is $20 per ticket which is a really good price for this amazing venue! There is also an additional cost for parking if you use The Grove's parking.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Love,
The Merry Wives

What a busy week! We performed at the Orange County International Street Fair on Saturday. It was a huge success! Despite the 100 degree weather we held a good audience and sold a TON of Cds! Thank you so much to all our brave friends who made it out to support us! Be sure to let the fair know that you want us back next year!

Tonight (Weds) we performed at the Derby Club (formerly known as the Brown Derby) in Hollywood. WHAT A GREAT SHOW! We ended up drawing more then 100 people into the club and they really appreciated it! You could tell the bar staff was excited to see that many people there in the middle of the week! Thank you to everyone who made it out on a week night! It was great to see some of our friends from LA at a gig! Hopefully more opportunities for gigs like this will start presenting themselves! Let people know that you want to see us!

Friday afternoon the Wives are migrating up north for the weekend! We are performing at the Northern California Renaissance Faire for it's first 3 weekends! Hope to see some of you there!

Cheers!
