I can't believe this is on YouTube - I always thought these guys were amazing, talk about the band that should have had it all... Alas they are now in the depths of early indie obscurity, but here, Thousand Yard Stare are digitally immortalized, at least for the time being. 'Hands On' remains one of the greatest indie albums of all time - what a classic. OK, the videos here are pretty bad, but the music is, and always will be, incredible. "Your words in triple welsh and mine in double dutch."
And one just for old time's sake... another great one:

I'm not sleeping well, which is weird seeing as I'm staying at a wonderful hotel in Boston at the moment and that's usually one of my favorite things to do in the world (I am a real sucker for room service). Aside from the sleep apnea, which has been acting up again lately (probably stress related or climate related from the terrible heat on the East coast over the last month), I had a terrible nightmare last night.
From what I can remember of it, I was coming home late from a night out in London, and returning to my first apartment in Richmond. There was a party going on in one of the other apartments in my building, which I didn't really pay much attention to, just continuing up to the top floor, where my apartment used to be. However, after opening up the front door, I was horrified to find the party going on in my apartment as well, specifically someone sleeping in my bed, and a person asleep slumped on the couch in the living room. I completely freaked out and began to throw them out. Pretty natural, but kind of scary - how would they have gotten in there? However, when met with resistance, the rest of the people from the party downstairs tried to start coming into my apartment, and basically breaking down the door. The image I specifically remember is a crowd of people trying to force the door, and the door bending top and bottom as the lock held.
At this point I think I must have woken up, but I think I remember calling the police, and I also think I fell asleep again and had a 'reprisal' dream. This consisted of the people in the apartment below me going away on vacation, and me organizing for all their furniture and belongings being packed up and shipped to Argentina, and me organizing for a new couple to rent the apartment. Imagine the shock you'd get upon your return.
Maybe it's nerves regarding the purchase of a new house we're working on, which is crazy seeing as it's going so well, maybe it's something else, but certainly that was such a vivid dream last night as to remain with me well into the morning here.

You know when a band just captures something that seems to be the essence of everything you love about music? I've been fortunate for it to happen a few times in my life - first with New Order (which completely changed the type of music I listened to for the rest of my life), then (probably in order) with The Stone Roses, Radiohead, Embrace, Interpol, and most recently Film School. It's happened again over the last couple of weeks. It's one of the great things about MySpace in that it allows you to find all this great new and undiscovered music. More importantly, for the first time it actually allows you to communicate with them - I dont really remember this being possible before, and it's a truly exciting thing. Anyway, I wanted to share that I have really been enjoying Chicago-based Dialogue. Great songs, great band name, great lyrics, and even a cello player as well. Pretty cool stuff all round I think. They have some samples online at www.ilikedialogue.com (click the speaker icon at the top to open the radio sessions and some other stuff they did). They can also be found here on MySpace. I've been doing some poster design stuff for them for their upcoming shows. I hope you enjoy their music as much as I do. I am calling it now - these kids are destined for great things.
