Hey Awesome People -

Man, are we behind the times!  Local newspaperman and comics guru (he helped put together the Expo last May, just as a for instance) Scott Slemmons blogged about our humble store the day of our grand opening, and we never posted a link!  Our apologies to Scott, and big, heaping bowlful of thanks for all the kind words and praise for the store.  Not to mention the free advertising.  ;)

The whole article can be read here: http://blogs.lubbockonline.com/slemmons/index.php?entry=entry080621-193802

Check it out, then go back and read his comic reviews.  This guy really knows what he's talking about.

Hey Awesome People -

Well, our grand opening celebration has come and gone.  We admit, this update has been a few days in coming, so please forgive us our lateness.  It was an exhausting day.

Although we didnt open officially until ten, we had the door open so we could bring in our food and stuff in - and a man who came to check out the gun shop next door dropped in and picked up a novel.  It was a great start to the day.

Business didnt pick up again until around one, which was great, because our Congressional District Leader Todd Klein showed up to do a ribbon cutting at the front of the store, officially opening the store!  We had hot dogs and cookies to celebrate.  Andy Eppler showed up around that time as well, and played a short but INCREDIBLY sweet set for us during our peek business hours.  Seriously, Andy's a genius, and his contemporary alternative-folk guitar and brilliantly subtle lyrics made a solid impression on our in-store clientele.  We brought his CD into the store, so if you have a chance, check him out.

The other big even was our in-store signing - local children's author Michael Daniel, Lubbock's own Dr. Suess, came by in the early evening to sign his book Littledobiddles and Doobetterdees.  We had a good turn-out, considering it was a little late in the evening, and Mike had a good time hanging out with all of us.

Overall, it was a wonderful, exciting day - we couldnt have asked for a better grand opening.  Once again, we would like to sincerly thank everyone who stopped by and made Saturday what it was.  For those of you who werent able to make it in, stop by!  Our hours are posted on our website: www.lubbook.com.  We'd love to see you!

Hey Awesome People -

Well, we did it.  We got the first day behind us.  Only the rest of our natural lives to go.

It was pretty quiet, which is fine, because we didnt do all that much advertising other than shout-outs on a couple of webpages (like this one) and telling our friends.  We sold a few books, had some laughs, and worked to iron out the last few wrinkles to running a business.  We had fun, and we all hope we can sustain momentum as we go forward.

Oh, and we should have a fully painted reflective vinyl sign in our window by the Grand Opening (June 21st), which will make us a lot easier to find, we promise.

Store hours remain 10am to 8pm tomorrow (Thursday), then jump to 10pm on Friday and Saturday.  If youre in the area, feel free to stop by: 3009A 34th, right next to the Gun Shop and just a hop, skip and a jump from the Burrito Tower.

Hey Awesome People -

Okay, so we havent kept up with this part of the site like we wanted too...then again, how many times do you want to read "Derek drank a lot of soda and priced books for seven hours" or "Scott came in and put up some shelves earlier"?  The development process was a lot more boring than originally assumed.  Next time we'll hire some supervillains to keep it interesting.  Or maybe midgets.

Anyway, it has come to pass that we are close enough to being ready to open that we thought we'd annouce our GRAND OPENING!  Awesome Books will be open to the public as of June 11th, 2008!  We're reall excited, and we cant wait to see you.  Come on in, pick up some books, and make fun of our green wall.  :)

The big news, though, is that June 21st (the first day of summer) is our official GRAND OPENING PARTY!  We'll have food, a raffle, Derek's little brother in a sandwich board, and...other stuff.

And that's where you Awesome People come in.  What do you think makes an AWESOME Grand Opening?  What would you like to see?  We'll be taking suggestions for the next two weeks or so, so fire away!  We'd love to hear what you think.

Feel free to post your ideas here on the Awesome Blogs, or e-mail us at awesomebooks@earthlink.net

Till next time,
