Strange things happen to the female species when you say the name "Quinton Flynn" amongst the right batch of video game or anime loving girls. There's an immediate widening of the eyes, the release of that trademark fangirl squeal, and an exciting scrambling to tell about—and in great detail—her favorite, bad boy role of his.
I know this is how it happens because I've, more or less, just described myself upon hearing his name.
Voice actor/writer/singer/comedian Quinton Flynn, best known for voicing Reno in Final Fantasy: Advent Children and Crisis Core, Axel in the Kingdom Hearts series, and Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2 and 4, is living the life most rock stars only dream they could. Convention and expo halls around the world pack quite quickly and tightly when Quinton with good friend, fellow jack of all trades, and partner in convention adventuring Jeff Nimoy grace the pages of a scheduled appearance pamphlet. And with Q's sharp wit, abundance of natural charm, and 60's era dipped vocals, it's easy to assume it's not far removed from the lifestyle the Ohio native would be living even if he was giving his soul to rock and roll each night and not lending his voice to hot heads and cyborg ninjas.
He does fortunately get to more satisfyingly scratch his writing, musical, and comedy itch with the web series he co-stars in with Jeff Nimoy called Adventures in Anime, an almost traditional shaky cam tour documentary with a quirky twist of sketch comedy spirit that chronicles their experiences in the beautiful madness of making their rounds on the Con circuit.
I recently (and finally) snagged some phone time with Quinton as he talked openly about the truth of being freelance in Hollywood, why he works better with no motivation, and what he'd like to see in the future for Adventures of Anime. He even took the time to drop some serious music knowledge on me that had me working overtime on Google and Wikipedia.

Most Americans forget to thank our awesome "Neighbors to the North" for all the wonderful gifts they've given us over the years. But not I. Cross-dressing, beautifully offensive sketch comedy in the form of The Kids in the Hall, unforgivable pop perfection in the form of Tegan and Sara, and Meat Loaf loving, green-eyed talent monsters in the form of Kristopher Turner—all graciously bestowed to us by Canada. They get an extra box of chocolate for Kristopher, though.
The very un-28-year-old looking actor is probably best known for his role as music nerd and next door best friend, Jamie Andrews, on the hit show Instant Star, a Canadian teen dramedy about the ups and downs of instant stardom in the music business and, of course, delicious, convoluted, intersecting love triangles. But, Kristopher's talent has only begun to be experienced. While he's already making some noise in the mediums of film (Without a Paddle: Nature's Calling, Everybody's Doing It) and some headlines in pretty controversial stage productions (In Gabriel's Kitchen), you can take my word for it that this is only the beginning for him.
After four years of unabashed crushing, I finally got the chance to go all aflutter with fangirlyness with Kristopher via phone as we talked about the Instant Star finale, Without a Paddle: Nature's Calling, being a little too involved in someone's act at a comedy club in North Hollywood, and where you can see his awesome face in the future.

David Hayter needs no introduction in the gaming world. He's the voice of possibly the most iconic and legendary character in video games today, Metal Gear Solid's anti-hero, Solid Snake. As Snake and even Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, David's gravelly and gruff vocals have entered the ears of millions of gamers around the world and has easily made him a bonafide god to anyone who's ever picked up a controller to play them. But, what you might not know as you're watching the breathtaking trailer for Watchmen in theaters right now, pre-The Dark Knight extravaganza, is that David's touch is in that as well. As a screenwriter.
Watchmen isn't David's first dive into the world of screenwriting. Between the years of 2000 and 2003, David also had a hand in providing us with X-Men and X-Men 2, both of which are considered the best ones in the trilogy by fanboys and girls everywhere (including me).
On a personal note, getting the chance to interview David Hayter has completed the circle of my creativity. Without him, I would not be the writer I am today. Plain, simple, and true. Since about 2004, I've held David's experiences and life up as inspiration in my own and in 2005, I got my first lessons as a real webmistress running a dot something with DavidHayter. net, a fansite I created and upkept with the most minimum of website savvy. Back then, if you would have told me that I'd be highlighting the second half of my 2008 by getting to talk to the man almost solely responsible for the huge shift in my writing process and technique, I would have shot you in the face with a Stinger missile and then laughed in it. No lie.
Via telephone, I got the honor to speak with David from LA about his excitement for Watchmen, a few of his visions for the Metal Gear Solid movie, getting dumped, and his future plans of becoming a rockstar.

So, what happens when you give a beautiful red head a great sense of humor, a contagious energy and personality, and a passion for limited edition sneakers? Vanessa Marshall is what happens. It's not everyday that I get the opportunity to talk one-on-one with a former plus sized model and comedian turned voice actress and hopefully soon to be published author who's done two one woman shows and has her own company. But then again, there aren't a whole lot of people with careers as unique and broad as Vanessa's.
Her credits span all the way from a less than girly intern on Scrubs to the cute and dorky Erwin on The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy all the way to deliciously Russian Olga Gurluckovich from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty who has become a bit of legend in her own right with the help of Marshall.
I got the chance to speak to a very honest and open Vanessa about being overweight in Los Angeles, being queened as the voice of Mary Jane Watson in The Spectacular Spider-Man, and her goal to deliver a message to women everywhere.

(Click here or the picture for the interview!) "Look what the cat dragged in." Hearing that verse from "Dreaming of Scraps" open boxViolet's 2006 album Cut and Come Again let me know I was in for something amazing and it has never felt so good to be right. If you don't absolutely fall in love with front woman Margot's sensual, slinky crooning, then you probably don't enjoy other fine things in life like rainbows or getting a fifty dollar bill back at the gas station when you only gave them a twenty. In 2008, boxViolet. has a new E.P (entitled Sad, Sad Girl), a tweaked sound, and one less member. But has kicking it as a two piece slowed down the Los Angeles band at all? Hell no. I recently talked with both Margot and newly re-assigned drummer Luke (who used to play guitar in the band) about their new EP, blogging for the world to see, and making babies. ONLY AT THE BACK ROOM!

I'm pretty sure legendary is an understatement but I am clueless as to what other words could describe it.
Let me give you a quick run-through of my past three days:
Saturday (May 3rd): I interview Christopher Randolph, who's the voice actor for Otacon in the Metal Gear Solid series. I just refuse to stop gushing about him. He's a pretty private person so the fact that he even granted me the chance to talk to him is still mind blowing. That interview still doesn't feel like it even happened and the only way I know that it did is because there's audio to prove it. I interview him, he's amazing, and the moment I hang up the phone, I get a headache, the urge to sleep for a month, and a rumbling stomach. I then realize that I haven't actually slept or eaten very well in a few days and that all the nervous energy I had pinned up is kicking me in the ass now.
Still a good day, though.
Sunday (May 4th): I spend the entire day transcribing the interview. I didn't have to edit the actual audio at all because there was no awkward moments and mimimum studdering on my end. So, what you hear is what you get. Wordpress gave me some serious anger management lessons...that I failed miserably at but less than 24 hours after talking to Christopher, the interview is on the net in all it's glory.
Monday (May 5th): I wake up to a few responses to the interview and all of them are good. Some of them are great, even. A lot of people (who know me and my love of this game) are shocked at my ability to keep my composure during the interview...but still not as surprised as I was. 3pm, I interview boxViolet. and they are so f'n fantastic. God, I love Luke and Margot. I could shrink those two and wear them as earrings so that they could talk to me all day. They bounce off each other so nicely and gave me some wonderful answers. I say goodbye to Margot and Luke and go to sleep. Finally.
My conclusion...Christopher Randolph, boxViolet., and sleep are all amazing and essential for living.
It may not always rule to be me...but it sure does right now.

Hello everyone!
Amanda here. There are so many awesome things in store for The Back Room in the next coming months.
First of all, I have an interview with one of my favorite bands right now, boxViolet., coming up pretty soon. I've also--like, just this morning--confirmed an interview with someone who I'm so, so, excited about but who shall remain nameless until more of the details are worked out. I'm such a huge fan of this person and it's going to be one of the greatest days of my life to get to talk to them. I have about 10 years worth of questions, here!
So stay tuned! We're just getting warmed up!
