Hey Everyone,
Been a hell of a long time since we have posted anything so I thought I would take the time to say hi. We have some big things coming up soon and have had some big changes to the band to.
Jon (lead guitar) has decided to focus on school and has moved on from the band. We are sad to loose not just a good musician but an amazing friend. Jon toured the East coast of Canada with us three times and was a major part of what we've done. I know that he will be greatly missed in the band. Good luck bud!
I have bought me a new sweet Tele and I will be covering all of the guitar now for the Trip to New Zealand. We have taken a lot of time with our old material and reworked it. We have added more harmonies, and changed up some of the tunes. I am really happy with the progress we have made. Can't wait to share it with you and all the good people in New Zealand. If you are in Toronto come check us out at Sneaky Dee's on SUnday (9 pm). It will be our last show in the city before we leave.
Speaking of New Zealand the count down is now on. We leave on Boxing day and everything is ready to go- tickets, visa, and passports. 21 dates so far!!!! SICK
Before we leave we are hitting our two favorite spots in Canada- Edmundston and Pembroke. I am so excited to see the Lotus Ladies (ED) and Christine (PEM) again.
I will keep you posted on how the trip goes and make sure to blog everyday that we are in NZ. I am so effin excited to get on that plane. Hobbinton here we come..
Jimmy
P.S I was thinking about bringing back the mo hawk for the trip.. Is that crazy?? Am I nuts .. Holy shit I might be running out of chances to do stupid shit so maybe I should take advantage.

We just wrapped up our East Coast August dates in St. Jean Port Joli QC and ....Edmundston.. ..NB..... Both of the shows were so much fun and in my simple opinion a smashing success.
The first night in St-Jean we played at a Yacht club that was backed by the St- Laurent and some mountains. It was beautiful to say the least and quickly filled with people. We played a show that is apart of their Thursday night summer series that runs from June to Oct. People from all over the area come to see the music and enjoy the night life which for one day a week becomes (from what I was told) very vibrant.
The crowd was very enthusiastic and it didn't take long for a dance party to break out. It all started with a VERY intoxicated lady who didn't speak a lick of English. She opened up the door and before we knew it a group of middle aged partiers where tearing it up in front of us. When the show was done the owner asked us to come back and close the series in Oct. We happily agreed.
The rest of the night was an absolute blast and will go down in Jay Spectre lore. Unfortunately you will have to wait for the tell all biography to find out more.. (Hits shelves in Sept 2020 after lead singer takes a turn for the worst in a yet to unfold tragedy)
We made the two hour trip to NB the following day and Eric owner of Le Deck in Edmundston immediately made us feel at home. He put us up in a beautiful B&B owned by the lovely and talented Sylvie. MOST COMFORTABLE BED I HAVE EVER SLEPT IN!!! Oh and during the set she sang Billy jean with us. Amazing voice!
We played the show and there was a great turn out. During our first break I was talking to a local and he said to have the crowd clapping was a great accomplishment. By set two (with the help of our good friends from the Lotus Bleu) a dance party broke out. By the end of the set there was a frenzy of intoxicated people tearing up the dance floor. Bam!
Both nights were so much fun and ended in not one but double encore's. Both nights we were asked back to return and both nights we mingled with some of ....Canada....'s finest people. I can't wait to do this again in Oct.
Thanks again to our good friends in particular the girls at Lotus Bleu who treat us like we were members of their family every time we play in Edmundston. I hope our paths cross again soon!
James JS

Current mood: hungover
Category: Music
Last night we arrived exhausted from a 11 hr marathon drive from Riviere Du-Loup. We are back home after an amazing 10 days of music, making friends and drinking excessively. What an incredible way to spend the only real week of summer us sucker ass Canadians got all year.
The best part about the show last night was with out a doubt the second suprise from our home town friends an unexpected location. Hayley and Maya (girlfriends of Mike and myself), along with my rommy Ally showed up in Quebec after making an all night drive from Toronto. I heard someone say "James" and I was thinking, I recognize that voice. Next thing I know Hayley is wrapping her arms around me. SO GOOD.
Thank god they showed up to because our show at Cafe Innocent ended up being a private showing for the girls with only three other people in the room. That is really the way the cookie crumbles on the road. Somedays you will have a full on dance party on a Monday night and some nights you play for the bartender... I remeber one of my friends once telling me that they saw Kardinal Official in Bellville and even though there was only ten people in the room he put on a hell of a show. Since then I always try to keep that in mind when I preform.
After all was said and done the boys hit the town and I hit the hay early. It was an great way to end another amazing tour.
On the way home our van "Cecilia" started making some funny noises. It sounds like she is about to fall apart and Jer is taking her in today. I am really hoping she is okay but she must be coming to the end of her life. After next week we are going to be pushing 450K on her. What an absolute warrior. I LOVE YOU CECILIA!!!! (Thank you Wooden Sky for letting us carry on her tradition)
We met so many amazing people and played so many fun shows. Next week we are heading back out to Quebec and NB to play. While I am not looking forward to the long drive I am already iching to play again. I hate not being able to be on the stage every night. Our van better hold out for one more go at it. We can't afford a new one with our sites now moving toward New Zealand.

Hello all,
Jay Spectre hailing from Cafe L'Innocent in Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec. We have just arrived from a whirlwind of travelling, shows and general mayhem. We are just about to sit down to dinner so I apologize in advance for keeping this fairly short. Between our last blog update and today we have gone all the way to Berwick, Nova Scotia and back.
Our show in Edmunston was everything we expected and more. We made a bunch of great friends last time and we were all looking forward to seeing them again. We pulled up to the cafe and after some friendly hellos were treated to some amazing pad thai. We played two sets to a nice crowd of Edmundston locals. Afterwards we went back to our friend Michelle's house for some beer and good conversation. She again kindly let us stay at her place, gave us beer and even laid out a spread of breakfast for us in the morning. A huge Jay Spectre thanks has to go out to her. We also have to thank Louise and Estelle from the Lotus Bleu and all the friendly staff who work there. Our next show was in Sackville, New Brunswick and this also turned out to be a doozey. We were playing at the Bridge Street Cafe located in downtown Sackville. We were warmly received by all there, young and old, and made a bunch of great friends. We didn't have a place to stay so we just flat out asked if anyone would put us up. Luckily, a girl named Ally agreed to let us all stay at her apartment across the street. After the show we all went out to a local watering hole named Ducky's with a large mass of people from the cafe. We closed down the bar and headed back to Ally's place to party the rest of the night away. We made some great friends and are looking forward to going back again. Thanks to Ally for putting us up and putting up with us.
The next day we drove to Berwick, Nova Scotia and played at the Union Street Cafe. We were again treated to a great meal before starting a ripping three set show. Right before we started James was blown away by the surprise arrival of his friends Alex and Alicia. They are both Lindsay originals who just happened to be in the Maritimes. They provided most of the energy and dancing. They pretty much made the show.
Well that's about it for now. I've just received a ham and cheese crepe that looks fantabulous and it needs my undying attention. Until the next blog.

Hey,
We've learned something in Montreal. Always get clear directions and make sure you know where you are going. We keep getting lost everytime we try to go anywhere. We ended up heading to the US right over the Champlain bridge on our way to downtown. Got turned around between our friend Lisa's place and the venue. Then we got entirely mixed up on the drive home.
Last night we played in Montreal at a club called Confessional. It was pretty swanky for Jay Spectre, well at least compared to the last time we played in Montreal. Despite its external debonair style there were some pretty hilarious details that brought it all back down to the Earth. Namely, the doors on the washrooms. A busty nun with low cut scandalous cloistre garb and a picture of John Paul II on the toilet....holding a hockey stick.
We played a quick first set of mostly originals before we let some more artists take the stage. At some point we all learn that a bucket of 5 little Boris beers is only $15. Soon we are ordering beers by the bucket full, literally. Let's just say our second set was not quite the blistering display of talent normally associated with a Jay Spectre set. Maybe that's the second thing we learned. Just because beer is cheap doesn't mean you should drink as much as you can. Also, the hangover is just as real coming from a little bottle than a big one.
Now for the seven hour drive to Edmunston.

Last night was by far the craziest moment in the entire history of Jay Spectre. I'm not even sure if words can describe how incredible last night but for now words will have to do. That is, until we post some pictures and video. We were scheduled to play two sets at the Rainbow, a small blues bar in the Market area of Ottawa. We were playing with a singer/songwriter named Jason who was incredibly talented and played a smashing version of Jackson 5's "I Want You Back." Except it was on the ukulele.
The show was going alright. The turnout was less than stellar but we were still pouring our heart and soul into it. There was less than 20 people and everyone was seated off at the edges of the bar. All of a sudden a guy runs in wearing a red muscle shirt and starts dancing away. After a few songs, he leaves. I thought that it was a little strange.
It was around one and we were finishing up the last song. All of a sudden a stream of people come flying into the bar and start dancing their asses off. The bar literally filled within the span of one James Brown tune. Next thing I know the stage is just full of people dancing and screaming along. A whole chorus of voices screaming out "I GOT SOUL!" We start replaying songs that we had played earlier just to keep the party going.
It turns out one of these guys is a judge on So You Think You Can Dance Canada. We can't even move the stage is so jammed. There are about four guys wearing coloured coded muscle shirts and matching glasses. Girls are dancing all over. Things only get crazier and weirder as the show goes on. James gets down on the dancing and generally kept everyone in the party. At one point I look over and James had bent over to pick up his guitar when the aforementioned judge starts spanking him. I'm surrounded by the four guys in muscle shirts. They are pouring beer everywhere. I keep looking over at Paul and we both laugh. The bartender brings a plate full of shots. Jer keeps the beat going with one hand while simultaneously reaching out for his. Another guy near James leans over to yell something at his friend and dumps half a pint of beer directly into the monitors. Madness.
We end up playing till about 2:15 or so. Every danceable tune we could pull off. The stage is awash in beer, sweat, broken flip flops and an assortment of hats, glasses and necklaces. None of us can even believe what happened. The show went from being sub-par to a one-in-a-million experience. A Jay Spectre dance party fit for a bar named the Rainbow.
We are all currently resting up for the drive to Montreal in hopes of continuing this crazy ride. A big thanks to Heather, Jer's sister, and her boyfriend Derek for letting us stay at the their place, coming in at 5 in the morning and probably keeping them awake until nearly day break.
Pictures and videos to follow soon.....

Current mood: happy
Hello all,
Yesterday was an absolute amazing day. In the morning Christine made us a spread of great breakfast foods including eggs, toast, bacon and ultimate pancakes. We had no shows booked and no particular place to go so she offered to take us to a local beach in Foy Provincial Park. We headed to the local Giant Tiger to buy some reasonably priced beach necessities: towels, bathing suits, flip flops and an official 180 gram frisbee(Paul was adamant about a 175 gram frisbee but was forced to compromise on the 180).
After a short drive we park our cars and make our way through a forest trail towards the beach. As soon as we see the water we realize this is exactly the place we want to be. A few hundred metres of beach set right into the forest. We instantly run into the water and begin soaking up as much enjoyment as we possible. We spent the whole day jumping in and out of the water playing frisbee. Later in the day James and I got into a Feats of Strength competition in the forest. We tested our ability and skill in the Pinecone Home Run Derby, Pinecone Accuracy Toss, Log Toss and the Overhead Log Toss to name a few.
We left the beach sometime in the late afternoon and headed back to Pembroke. Christine, kind hearted soul that she is, told us to jam the night away at Cafe Ole in lieu of no planned gig. The cafe was closed but she let us play on the stage to keep our skills sharp. We made a quick stop to East Side Marios to get some food to eat. I'm not sure if anyone is aware of their unlimited salad and bread policy but we took full advantage of it. Before our entrees had even arrived we'd inhaled somewhere in the neighbourhood of four family sized bowls of caesar salad and seven garlic loafs. When our meals arrived we were stuffed and decided to package most of it for later. Two meals for the price of one.
As I said before it was the absolute best way to spend a summer day on tour. Everything we had hoped for and more. This morning Jer said he had figured out a whole new tour plan. Quit the music stuff. Just drive around swimming and enjoying the country with the occasional alcoholic beverages in quality establishments like Shots. I think he might just have something there....
We have to send out a huge thanks to Christine and all the people at Cafe Ole for again putting us up, feeding us and showing us an absolute blast. No Jay Spectre tour would be complete without a stop in Pembroke. If you are ever in Pembroke go to the Cafe Ole, you will not regret it.

Current mood: blissful
...That the dance that Courteney Cox does in the Dancing in the Dark kinda resembles the Tom Jones dance that Carlton does in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?
I woke up this morning to the lovely sound of a skill saw, Christine's neighbor got an early start to the renovations. It's a good thing no-one was hungover or anything.
Always like playing Cafe Ole, the sound is quite exceptional for a small room. We played a couple of our newer covers for the first time, which went over well. We tried out a couple of our new songs as well, they went over even better. We shot a little video of "Hope is a Hearthache", we'll post eventually, but that gonna invlove a little more work than I'm ready for this morning.
After the show, a couple of us went to a bar called "Shots", basically Pembroke's meat market. It's funny how no matter where you go, there is always one bar that stands out as being the place to be. Think York in Lindsay, Smooth Herman's in Sydney or the Velvet Underground in Charlottetown. I'm not to sure why we always end up in such places, I guess it's because to get a really good feel for any town, you've got to see the people at their best.
Speaking of people at their best, I think the quote of the night went something like this:
"I'm at the corner of so-and-so and something street. The ground is red."
Jer.

Current mood: ecstatic
Hello friends, family and fans,
We are officially into the second day of our summer tour to the East Coast. It's just beginning but things are off to a terrific start. The weather is absolutely beautiful. Hot, sunny and not a cloud in the sky. It's windows down in ol' Cecilia. Quite a change from our last two tours.
Last night we played an awesome show at the Armouries in Lindsay, Ontario. It is always great to come back for a hometown show and see all of our various friends, family and fans. People braved the intense heat to watch a very high energy(read: sweaty) Jay Spectre set. We debuted one of our newly minted covers; Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. James kicked off the song with an apparently ill timed joke about his death. What? Too soon?
In the morning the Jay Spectre unit mobilized and began the four hour drive to Pembroke. There was a slight detour to Oshawa to pick me up from the GO Train. I realized last night during Jessie Houston's set that I had left all of my cables, pedals and adapters in Toronto. It was a miniscule delay, really. We busted out Paul Turley's newest addition to the van games collection: Casino In A Box. Details and results to follow regarding the new No Limit Hold'em tournament.
Right now we are all sitting in Christine's house enjoying a home cooked meal. She is the owner of Cafe Ole(our show tonight) and has always been more than generous, supplying us with a great show, a place to sleep and a hot meal. We are all looking forward to the show tonight and can't wait to get on the stage of Cafe Ole.

Current mood: anxious
...we just can't wait to get back on the road again...
Busy day for the lads, finishing up some last minute work related stuff, getting all packed up, trying not to forget anything, oil change on the van, getting a decent meal into us and preping our body's for a week of cramped spaces, sleeping on floors and putting way too much stress on our livers.
So, first stop - tonight in Lindsay, Ontario.
Lindsay has quickly become a favourite stop on these little excursions we make. We love the energy that the kids there bring to our shows. Vacant Music is doing some good for the community - a few of us are former residents of the town, we know how little there is to do to entertain yourself as a teenager without landing up in the Court Docket. A place to hang out for the night with some easy going folks who can simply share the love of live music without reservation.
Keep checking back for further updates as we make our way east, here on the Offical Jay Spectre Tour Blog™
Peace! JS
