LUNA SPARK IS DEAD.
For a fresh start, the brains and brawn behind luna spark are now recording as RADIO OVER MOSCOW. So check that out. It's better, you know.

As a part of the New Zealand Internet Blackout in protest against the ridiculous 'guilt by accusation' law about to come into force (I think it's amazing they've managed to write a law that is both draconian and absolutely toothless at the same time), the folks at Creative Freedom NZ have organised the Copywrong Song: Remix Challenge.

Basically, it's a piece of music by Disasteradio and Mike Corb of which they've uploaded the individual tracks, inviting people to remix it and upload it for others to check out. The song itself is a cheesy but sweet little number about the idiocy and wrongfulness of the law change, so this morning I had a go, and this is what I got (right-click, save as):

Copywrong (luna spark remix - loud master)

Copywrong (luna spark remix - quiet master)

Legal bit:

I'm clearing out my digital studio of old stuff, transferring off old demos and making way for new stuff, and I came across this recording, which I rearranged a bit, touched up and thought yeah, lets put it out. So here it is: Scully's Theme (right-click save-as). To the best of my knowledge, I think it was recorded in February 2007, and completely forgotten about. I'm still hacking away at the new album, loads of backing tracks done...

No budget, no assistance, no multi-track video editor... but here it is anyway!

Review in the Waikato TimesThere's a review of Scud Of Freedom in the Waikato Times/stuff.co.nz today (read it by clicking the image on the right). Awesome!

nexus reviewAlso, Nexus mag reviewed it too. I've screen-shot this from a PDF of the issue, click the thumbnail on the left to enlarge it. You can see the original here.Apart from the small error in that it's the third luna spark album this year, not ever, it's pretty good, huh?

Broken, the last track on Scud Of Freedom has been entered into one of garageband.com's competitions, and the reviews are pouring in - mostly positive, thank god! One even said the standout feature of the song was the singing... I'm not sure whether to trust anything else that guys says! Anyway, a few of the comments have suggested the track reminds them of Nine Inch Nails, which is pretty cool.

Check out the reviews here.

All new luna spark album, third one this year, absolutely *free* to download, easily the best one so far, loud and noisy, lots of guitars, short and sweet, and no silly concepts and almost no acoustic guitars.

Email me for a CD version.

Thanks to those who had nice things to say about the couple of tracks I linked last week, good to know others feel this one sounds a lot better than my old stuff, as I do. I tried to simplify the production and recording this time around, gave up on trying to simulate 'real' drums, and ironically ended up with the most natural and 'rock' bunch of luna spark songs to date.

Hope you like them. If you don't, meh! Try The Pressure Is On Us or The Thrill Of Your Life from the downloads page if you want to sample a couple of tracks first.

I've also made the two earlier albums this year, The Siren and Trigger Happy Little Finger free to download - get them from the website too.

I've made a few changes around the site, good ones too. Now you can listen to each of the albums in full on this site, streamedfrom last.fm. Just go to the page of the album you want to hear throughthe discography tab up the top, and well yeah... go nuts!

The free tracks for the next month are Molotov from The Siren, and In Your Kiss from Trigger Happy Little Finger. The latter is probably the best song on either of the two albums, sogive it a listen. I haven't got them up to music.download.com just yet, butthey should both be on the myspaceor virbready for you by now.

I've also signed up at sellaband.com- the idea there is people who "believe" in you donate $10 towards yourcause - when you reach $50,000 the sellaband people allocate it towardsstudio costs and things for a professionally produced product - andyour believers all get a copy, plau proceeds from sales and advertisingrevenue etc etc. As I said on my blog, if I get $50 by the end of theyear I'll eat my hat, even if I have to buy one to do it.

Byeee!

There are two new tracks every month, but if you can't wait, you can purchase them from Amplifier.co.nz - just search for luna spark, and off you go.

I have made some updates at the official, real, proper, genuine, actual luna spark site.

Okay, so it seems MySpace is not set up to work with Opera properly, so you'll have to copy and paste it yourself.
