A reminder for the girls of how we started, bo-Pah doesn't

remember her "kit" was a djembe and a hi-hat when she was

smaller (thank God for photographs! :o), but the older girls

should remember making fiddles out of paper to practice their

notes and standing on the hearth of the fire place to put on

sheauxs. The older 3 having a 15 watt guitar amp and a 20w x 2

amp (that I found in an alley and had to have fixed) to play on and

it still would always cut out on them. All of them playing on

Target/Walmart and Toys R Us

special guitars and bass (with Ella practicing the bass on her

acoustic guitar until she got her Lyon I got on clearance at

Target for

about $65 that she still plays on, broken bridge, no nobs and

all) until 10 months ago when we were

blessed by Daisy Rock Intl. Remember that when you asked

me, "Daddy, I know it's supposed to be hard, but does it have

to be this hard?" I answered' "Yes. Because life is a scale, and

if it were only a little bit hard you'd only be a little bit famous,

but y'all will be huge if you keep walking these trenches."

Don't get all boojie (bourgeoisie) with your

sparkle guitars and your Marshall amps, there fantastique and

you deserve the upgrades, but remember to always have fun

and never forget who you are or where you came

from. Following the path less traveled holds the finer

destination and always keep in mind, if it were supposed to be

easy then everyone would be doing it.

Merry Christmas

Hello y'all! Just stoppin' in to say Hello! This is Mama Sledge... I know, (hubby) Mr. Grits is the official moderator of the Myspace site but... I have to get my two cents in here sometime

We have been asked lately by quite a few of you... What's goin' on in Gritsworld  So, I will give a brief update. I will close this blog with an amazing article that is in the October issue of Muen Magazine. The magazine rocks and Macavity (who is very cool) had a great interview with the girls... So, stick with me to the end!

Ok, first of all we have had a whirlwind last few weeks.
The girls went to Los Angeles to meet with music producers about up coming recording sessions. Then we drove to Temecula, to the International Film and Music Festival. Adam Gaynor, of Matchbox 20, was the MC and was so funny and welcoming. Mimi sang an impromptu "Hero" by Mariah Carey, acapella for 9-11. We got back just in time for the girls to perform one of their last local, public shows. We had it at the Pizza Factory in Salinas. We packed the place like sardines:) The girls gave away an autographed guitar and we had an amazing show! Wise Music was a sponsor and of course... We love them!

It has been a nice couple of Months. The shows were coming faster than we could keep up with. Thank you EVERYONE for all of your support. We are taking a break from local shows and are prepping for a tour of Seattle in the near future and also for work in LA.

We are still in the figuring out portion of this journey.   We have FIGURED out that our plans will surely change tomorrow.   But, it's ALL GOOD! This is an incredible ride but, a learning one. The girls have been blessed with some major support. You know who you are out there We thank you and love you...

Ok... SO, what you all have been waiting for... The Muen Interview for OCT....  Thank you Muen and Thank you Macavity!

THE SLEDGE GRITS BANDSalinas.., California(Unedited)

Interview by: Macavity

It would be easy to look at the group walk on the stage or see a photo and think it is just another band that has been “contrived” to be a talent showcase. Halfway through the first verse of a song you realize they may be young but these girls have amazing REAL talent!  After hearing them we had to find out more about these fascinating sisters and what is going on with the band.

Hi girls! Thanks for taking some time to talk to MUEN today.

The Sledge Grits Band: Thank YOU for asking us to take the time.

MUEN: So with a name like that I would assume you are all definitely girls raised in the South. Where are you originally from?

TSGB: We are originally from Orange Park, Florida (south of Jacksonville).  Kariel: Keiko and I were born in The Bay and Raised in the South. Mimi and Bo-Pah were both born in Florida. So we like say we are "Girls Raised in the Sun".

MUEN: How is it to work with your sisters and also do what you love which is playing music so well? Do you ever have any disagreements?

TSGB: We think it is awesome that we get to work together. We are each other's best friends. Of course we fight! But not ever about anything serious. Mostly about getting on each other's nerves because we spend so much time together.

MUEN: What made you decide to form a band to showcase your talents at such a young age?

TSGB: We were steered towards guitar about three years ago by our parents. They wanted us to have something positive to do when times were tough. We had just lost our 48 year old grandmother to breast cancer. Also, our father has multiple sclerosis and was having a major relapse. So we started to play to keep our mind off things. Bo-Pah-started on the bottom of a gumbo pot to keep time for us. She was our metronome.

MUEN: You have four sisters that are so talented in such different ways but all musically. Does this come from you being in a musical family?

TSGB: We are not part of a musical family. Our parents just really believe that music heals the soul. So they surrounded us around it from the time we were born. Although Mom has a great ear for music and key and she also wrote one of our songs. Dad has a lot of patience for sitting with Bo-Pah and teaching her what he learns by watching videos and listening to songs.

MUEN: Who manages all the press, the fans and the shows for all of you so that you can do your music and get to all these things?

Keiko and Kariel: Our parents do a lot of that. Recently we started working with some producers in Los Angeles who sets up appointments for us. We have a great support system of friends and family that help us get from day to day. But mostly our parents. Dad is a great tape gaffer and drum tech as well as boo boo kisser and photographer! (Laughs)

MUEN: You have been all over the states and have appeared on some pretty big shows that many bands would love the opportunity to have been on. What has been the most memorable appearance and why?

Keiko: Our most memorable appearance would probably be The Early Show on CBS. This show was special for us because we were able to break into a national market. It gave us some major exposure and made a lot of people aware of who we were and what we were doing.

MUEN: You are the youngest band to ever be endorsed and sponsored by Daisy Rock Guitars. How did that come about?

Kariel: Well we are definitely one of the youngest bands endorsed and sponsored by Daisy Rock. We were approached by the artist relations person who asked if we would like an endorsement. Mimi already had a Daisy Rock guitar and I guess someone suggested us for an endorsement. The rest is history.

MUEN: The Daisy Rock Guitars seem to be a perfect sponsorship for you and for them as it showcases great talent using guitars that are meant for ladies. Any plans to have a custom Grits guitar design?

TSGB: We will let Tish Ciravolo, the founder of Daisy Rock, tell you herself: Tish: We could totally do a custom Sledge Grits Guitar in the future. That would be really fun and interesting to see what the girls would be into doing, what they would like to see in a design and what they'd like it to sound like. These are the really fun aspects of having a girl guitar company - no one else can do it like we can! Sledge is definitely one of the youngest bands we endorse. And the Coolest. Bo-Pah: Mario De La Cruz makes me a custom stick with yellow grips! (Bo-Pah is also endorsed by Danmar Percussion, HiShaker, Swirly Gig and Key of Z frottoirs.

....
MUEN: How would you describe your music to someone that has not heard it?

Mimi: We like to say it is Heart fronted by Mariah Carey or Aretha Franklin. Rock meets soul. We know those are big shoes to fill. But, our feet are growing fast.

MUEN: Are you ever compared to any other musical families and if so whom?

TSGB: The Jackson Five or Sister Sledge. Kariel: People like to compare Mimi to young Michael. Because she is so little and we are a family band, we get that one a lot.

MUEN: Who is the coolest person that you have met since the band started?

Keiko, Kariel and Mimi: BB King! He is such an icon and legend. He gave us great advice about performing all styles of music. He said "Don't box yourself into any one style, because then the world will not take anything else you do seriously." He also told us bananas and cheese are a good combo. Not sure if we will try that! (Laughter) Bo-Pah: Cindy Blackman (drummer for Lenny Kravitz for over 10 years). I got to give her a pair of MY drumsticks! She plays drums so good and she has hair like me!

MUEN: Are you planning to release a CD soon of your great music?

Keiko: We are working on that with music producers right now!

MUEN: A lot of people may think that the music is written for you but I understand all of it is written by the band. Who does write the songs and how are they written?

Keiko: I write most of the songs. I write lyrics first. Then I pick up the guitar and put music to it.  Kariel: We have all written a song that is in our set. Even Mimi wrote a more bluesy song called “WHOA!” I wrote the song that got us on to the CBS Early Show. It is called “Invincible” and was written about sisters and how if you stick together nothing will tear you down.

MUEN:What are the most exciting things planned for 2010 and beyond for the band?

Keiko: We are working towards the development of a TV show. But, our most important and exciting thing will be to finally get into the studio and lay some of the songs that we have been touring around and performing. We did it a bit backwards. Most people make a CD and then tour. We didn't get a chance to get into the studio because we were doing one show after the other. Besides, whoever said that you had to record first? Where is that in the rule book?

MUEN: With all the touring and playing so many big shows, do you ever get tired of performing and just want to stay home and do schoolwork?

TSGB: NO!!! Keiko: I mean we like schoolwork. We embrace our inner nerd.  But, this is our dream.  Every show we learn something new. We meet someone new. We get better by going out there and performing. It is amazing how many times we hear that. Don't you just want to play and be a kid! We are playing! We want people to get that! The stage is our playground.  This is what we want.

MUEN: Is there anything I have not asked that you think our readers would like to know about The Sledge Grits Band?

Kariel: I want people to know that we may be young but we work really hard. We are constantly searching to better our playing and performing skills. Music is who we are and it pumps through our veins. It is what we do.

Thanks girls for taking the time to talk with MUEN today.  We look forward to seeing and hearing a lot more from you for many years to come.

TSGB: Thank you again for having us!

Thank you again for all your support and friendship! Until next time... Na Nu Na Nu  (wait... did I just age myself?)

Hello everyone...
It has been awhile since we did a blog! So, here we go...

The last few months have been amazing. We started our Summer tour around California and are working on another trip to New York.

The library tour was fun... Tiring but fun... It kept us on our toes and dealt with a sick singer who refused to cancel a show, and a time schedule that only allowed for 20 minutes sometimes between shows (setup included!)

I would ask the girls... "This is rough! Are you sure you are having fun?" and with Sparkles and Stars in their eyes they would respond... "YES!!" A tv station recorded the second to last show, and when we get a copy, we will share.

The band just played at the Gonzales Summertime Festival. That was an amazing show. The stage was great, the sound was great, promoter great, and  the energy from the crowd was fantastic. We had some VIP's come in from LA to film the show and take pictures. We will in turn be going to LA next week for a meeting on "their turf" :):) Beverly Hills

The next day Sunday, was just as amazing. The girls played the Strawberry Festival.  It was a great crowd! The girls ran out of band postcards autograph that they were signing backpacks and arms and shirts.

Later that day... They performed at a event for Fredotainment,  Jammin 97.9. It was such a wonderful atmosphere with 200 of his closest friends:) Fredo sure knows how to throw a party!

Tuesday The Sledge Grits Band played at the National night out in Seaside, Ca. It got dark while they were on stage so, the fire department kicked in with some lighting:) Too cool!
It was an awesome show!
More autographs... Check out bo-Pah's wings:)

The band is currently in some negotiations for some REALLY big things. We will give up more info as soon as we can. Things have been exciting!!

There is also two blogs from Marc Cabrera of the Herald

And a Carmel Magazine article that I will post a link to soon.

So much has happened this Summer that I couldn't possibly write about it all... But I did want to update everyone on a few things.

We will be slowing our show schedule down in the next few months to make time to get into the recording studio, and do some work in LA.

We hope your Summer has been a good one! Make sure you stop by and say "Hi" if we are playing at a show near you.  We have fun giveaways at our shows and we may just pull you on stage to play with us:) If we are not playing a show near you stop by and say hi on myspace, twitter or facebook.

We also want to take a second to thank some new and old:) sponsors/endorsees/friends.
Daisy Rock Guitars, Mario De La Cruz Custom Drumsticks and Cymbals, Swirly Gig, Shine Drums, and a special thanks to DR Strings. Kariel's Daisy Rock Bass looks so good with the pink bass strings! And last, but certainly not least, Wise Music in Salinas, Ca.

Make sure you follow us on Twitter
and on facebook

To our myspace friends... Thank you for being with us on this musical journey... You Rock

Current mood:very sad but very proud.
Category: Friends
I REALLY am sad right now, last night before we went to Keiko's graduation ceremony, I reviewed our MySpace and read an article that had been posted by Ms. Michele at WIB (Women In Blues) It read that KoKo Taylor had passed. I immediately was saddened because I have alwaysed called Keiko 'KoKochan' (after the fact that she is brown on the outside and white on the inside, like a coconut and a mix like her Mama and Daddy!) Chocolate is made from the cocoa plant, I'm nutty in love with that baby- coconut, get it?
I would have liked my family to have met her and for possibly for my Keiko to have sang with her or all of my kids to have supported her with our band as an honour to her. I have nicknamed my daughters the princesses of Blues- infused Rock and Soul after her, Ms.Tina Turner and Ms. Aretha Franklin just to honour these lady's. We can only Try to walk in the shadows of the lives of these great queens.
Last year, we performed at the Monterey Bay Blues Festival were we met Mr. B.B. King on his tour bus and watched him perform from backstage after our performance, but didn't get to meet her because we went on a different day. On my wish list of people to met was Mrs. Koko Taylor, Mr. King, Mrs. Bettye Levette and Mr. C.J. Chenier. We performed at a Blues Festival Kick Off Party the day she performed, seaux I hoped we'd catch up with her in the future. I guess it wasn't meant to be. I was bummed, now I am really bummed. :o(
Keiko went on to her graduation and moved on to her next realm of her young life and brought the Salinas Rodeo hall to tears with her heartfelt speech and I couldn't help but think a torch was being past on seaux many levels. One, I told her that with this graduation, she had tied me for the amount of times that I've been on a graduating stage and 2. Too bad Keiko's songs have been chosen for this years M.B. Blues festival or else I think it would have been an appropriate choice for her to have chosen Wang Dang Doodle to perform, but good luck on Mr. Murphy getting a bunch of kids in the honours band to learn that in 3.5 weeks with all of the other songs that they have on their plate. It would have been a great tribute.
It is sad when you think of the people who paved your way that you couldn't thank personal because they died so long ago, both musically and otherwise, from Harriet Tubman- Rosa Parks. But when you loose someone that close to you in time who you've never met but consider a friend-it's tough. Geauxing to her funeral would be the next best thing we could do, but Mama chopped down our money tree to make room for a vegetable garden, seaux that's not geauxing to happen.
I moved on as to not put a damper on her day, I was seaux very proud of her. But, this morning I went to Alligator Records to see if there was any new information about her and found this. I reposted it for all of our friends who may not already know to be able to read and share.

“QUEEN OF THE BLUES” KOKO TAYLOR 1928 - 2009

Grammy Award-winning blues legend Koko Taylor, 80, died on June 3, 2009 in her hometown of Chicago, IL, as a result of complications following her May 19 surgery to correct a gastrointestinal bleed. On May 7, 2009, the critically acclaimed Taylor, known worldwide as the “Queen of the Blues,” won her 29th Blues Music Award (for Traditional Female Blues Artist Of The Year), making her the recipient of more Blues Music Awards than any other artist. In 2004 she received the NEA National Heritage Fellowship Award, which is among the highest honors given to an American artist. Her most recent CD, 2007’s Old School, was nominated for a Grammy (eight of her nine Alligator albums were Grammy-nominated). She won a Grammy in 1984 for her guest appearance on the compilation album Blues Explosion on Atlantic.

Born Cora Walton on a sharecropper’s farm just outside Memphis, TN, on September 28, 1928, Koko, nicknamed for her love of chocolate, fell in love with music at an early age. Inspired by gospel music and WDIA blues disc jockeys B.B. King and Rufus Thomas, Taylor began belting the blues with her five brothers and sisters, accompanying themselves on their homemade instruments. In 1952, Taylor and her soon-to-be-husband, the late Robert “Pops” Taylor, traveled to Chicago with nothing but, in Koko’s words, “thirty-five cents and a box of Ritz Crackers.”

In Chicago, “Pops” worked for a packing company, and Koko cleaned houses. Together they frequented the city’s blues clubs nightly. Encouraged by her husband, Koko began to sit in with the city’s top blues bands, and soon she was in demand as a guest artist. One evening in 1962 Koko was approached by arranger/composer Willie Dixon. Overwhelmed by Koko’s performance, Dixon landed Koko a Chess Records recording contract, where he produced her several singles, two albums and penned her million-selling 1965 hit “Wang Dang Doodle,” which would become Taylor’s signature song.

After Chess Records was sold, Taylor found a home with the Chicago’s Alligator Records in 1975 and released the Grammy-nominated I Got What It Takes. She recorded eight more albums for Alligator between 1978 and 2007, received seven more Grammy nominations and made numerous guest appearances on various albums and tribute recordings. Koko appeared in the films Wild At Heart, Mercury Rising and Blues Brothers 2000. She performed on Late Night With David Letterman, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, CBS-TV’s This Morning, National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, CBS-TV’s Early Edition, and numerous regional television programs.

Over the course of her 40-plus-year career, Taylor received every award the blues world has to offer. On March 3, 1993, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley honored Taylor with a “Legend Of The Year” Award and declared “Koko Taylor Day” throughout Chicago. In 1997, she was inducted into the Blues Foundation’s Hall of Fame. A year later, Chicago Magazine named her “Chicagoan Of The Year” and, in 1999, Taylor received the Blues Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2009 Taylor performed in Washington, D.C. at The Kennedy Center Honors honoring Morgan Freeman.

Koko Taylor was one of very few women who found success in the male-dominated blues world. She took her music from the tiny clubs of Chicago’s South Side to concert halls and major festivals all over the world. She shared stages with every major blues star, including Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King, Junior Wells and Buddy Guy as well as rock icons Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.

Taylor’s final performance was on May 7, 2009 in Memphis at the Blues Music Awards, where she sang “Wang Dang Doodle” after receiving her award for Traditional Blues Female Artist Of The Year.

Survivors include Taylor’s husband Hays Harris, daughter Joyce Threatt, son-in-law Lee Threatt, grandchildren Lee, Jr. and Wendy, and three great-grandchildren.
Wand Dang Doodle tonight in her honour,
Mr. Grits

Bonjour encore GritsWorld,
I tried to leave status updates and Twitters about the baby's condition and I posted a bulletin, but I haven't had a chance to sit and detail out a blog. I'm up early again this morning, seaux I thought I'd take a second before school and the rest of our day starts.
The morning of, I didn't know what to expect when Mama came downstairs. She said that bo-Pah's fever broke and that she seemed better. (She is more reliable, because my bo-Pah would have told me she was fine just seaux she could have snacks in the green room!) We tested out the bo-Pah to make sure if she was in running form. I had partially broken down her kit/drumset already (positive thinking ahead of time and trying to be ready) because I have to bring her own cymbals, stands and drum throne because she is seaux short, and it's easier to replace that stuff after an adult has just used them on a borrowed set than to adjust it all again after adjusting it for sound cheque. Then, all I have to do is tilt the toms and lower the floor tom.
If I didn't know better, I would have her get a bug before she went on stage every time! She was pure genius. Her timing- impeccable. Her fills- creative. Her energy-amazing. One of the songs that they played was just put together this week, and I was worried that she would have issues. No. Rehearsals were slayed, and I couldnt've be prouder. The other 3 had to step their games up and... yep.
We didn't want to wear her out, and seaux we packed up and left at 9:15am She slept in the car for another +1hr. When we got there and unpacked, we got the usual snickers and stares, disbelief, folks wondering why we were there and such, and we just went to work.
I stand out because I wear a suit and cowboy hat when I'm not wearing tropical shirts and sandals ( FLOWR-DUH! You Know!!!) We were backstage with dreads, punkers, rockers, and hip hoppers and I'm standing next to a 9 year old, a 7 year old that I'm introducing as the singer and the drummer of our band (I love doing that) and their teddy bear Dixie. The older girls unpack their pink guitar cases and their sparkly pink guitars and everyone was thinking, "right!?" Everybody thinks we're the cute, time fill-in joke and are nice to have play while the 'professionals' get ready, they move on and don't take us serious, still trying to figure how we got a gig like this in the first place? Mama and I have them right where we want them.
We sound cheque right before Mr. Ludacris and the girls are making sure everything is right. I noticed that other than his crew and the people who worked there, not everybody, but most else had just about left. Mr. Luda' was still in San Francisco, seaux I told his crew they might want to stay and see this. Our sound cheque was short because the doors had to be opened, but the girls were cool with that because that is all the time we needed to fix any issues anyway.
Mr. JC asked if he could film the baby's while he was there because he had to get back to S.F. but thought what they had just seen was crazy!
The girls were all proud because when we got off the stage, the door to our room had their name on it and we went to the green room (it was a green gated off area and not a room) and bo-Pah went strait for the food! We chillaxed and just soaked in the day and just tried to keep the babe's heureux !
When it was our turn, we went up and the crowd was amazed, you can't even see our drummer from behind her kit until the set is over and she steps to the front. You could tell that the crowd thought it HAD to be an adult back there or a rum machine before, not a tiara sporting little girl with rabbit teeth because her front two just grew in ! Mimi belted out sounds that women 3x's her age don't even try to hit, Keiko's guitar was flawless, and Kariel was as consistent as a seasoned veteran. The crowd went nuts !
The back stage went nuts, too, and the 4 baby's we're professional and stayed out of the way. That impressed everyone even more because they said that they expected kids to be running around and touching everything. "Are they alway's like that?" I kept being asked. "When they're at work, but after that there kids." I had to have replied 30x's.
Then bo-Pah about 2-3 hours later felt sick from the heat and all too, seaux I went to our van and sat with her and let her sleep about another 1 1/2 hours. By that time my body needed a rest, aussi, and Mama took the other girls back to the show.
When she woke up, she stepped out of the van and got recognized and seaux we took some pictures and we talked. It got late and the trip home was long. I don't drive right now, and Mama was getting what the girls had, seaux it was time to leave.
During sound cheque the lyrics were not too bad, I just kept the baby's distracted and the older girls don't appreciate that type language, seaux they turn their ears off. I know that Keiko can hear it, but she doesn't listen. Kariel gets lost in her own land and tries to solve the worlds problems and cure cancer during x's like that. I remember the lyrics from when I was a bit younger, and knew that we couldn't be in there ! The crowd would change and get rowdy and disrespectful and it wouldn't be pretty.
We caught up with Mr. Ludacris and his crew before we left and he was really nice :0) Mama was impressed with his demeanor and I don't think that she was expecting that from what she has heard and seen. He had already knew about the girls and spent a minute with them. It was very funny, this one cat snuck in and tried to bum rush Mr. Ludacris and my wife caught a picture of him ignoring the guy and focusing on bo-Pah, Mr. JP looking like he was about to kill this fool running up, and Mr. Willy NorthPole giving a look like' "Is this chump for real? Does he not see we're busy with a baby girl and that his beats don't matter right now?"
He and his entourage left to get on stage and we went to the parking lot. I am glad we stayed to see him, it was a good experience for the girls :o) It was definitely worth the trip.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers toward her, I think HE heard y'all ! Beintot !

p.s. I think we'll post a few songs from that video on You Tube. Subscribe to www.youtube.com/bluewendybear and you'll be notified when it's available. Also, if your not already, follow us on Twitter. It's on the front page and we can keep up with that better. I don't alway's have two hours to write a blog or a computer to keep up with our status on MySpace. Keikochan & 'Ellachan can do that from her Mama's phone.

Current mood:not happy
Hello Gritsworld, Yesterday, on the way coming home from the library, I asked mon espouse if she could duck into Wise Music real quick seaux I could talk to Mr. Pete. She was not happy with me again, because she knew what that meant and that we were not in a position to take on any more debt. I ignored her and ran in anyway and shortly came back to our mini van all pumped :o) I turned around in my seat all excited about bringing something new home for my bo-Pah's drum kit- I knew she would love it ! Every 6 months it's been tradition that I bring her a new toy for her drums on her 1/2 or full birthday. I couldn't afford anything on her birthday, and I was already over 2 weeks late, seaux I was real proud to get her something because she had been asking me about it last couple of weeks and I kept having to tell her that I ordered something and that it was in the mail, all y'all parents out there know what I'm talking about ! Her face looked miserable, her eyes were open, but she was not responding, and I thought maybe that she was partially asleep in her car seat still. She was not happy and could care less about her new "surprise" for when she got home, no matter how i tried to get her excited about her gift finally being here ! We skipped band rehearsals when we got home to let her sleep and the other three just had individual skills. Keiko was not enthused about that, because she wanted to have 1 last practice before we left early for Hayward the next day for our show opening for Mr. Ludicris- she doesn't really know who he is, but she knows he's big in hip hop.
Shortly right after that, Mama said that the baby had spiked a fever and that she had what the other girls had had. She had to run to Target to get some Motrin and the baby wanted fruit. She said that she complained about being all achey and that her sore throat was worse than it was in the van. She was crying because she was seaux uncomfortable, and was upset that "tomorrow she might couldn't sit in the green room and eat snacks :0( "Seaux, we'll see what happens in a few hours, keep her in your prayers. She's sad that she may have to stay home with me and miss her snacks. concerned, Mr. Grits

Current mood:  amorous
Category: Romance and Relationships

Hello GritsWorld,

I wanted to share this snippet from one of my cue cards from the night of Bo-Pah's shichi-go-san Birthday Bash with y'all. I prepared longer introductions for the girls, The Dennis Murphy Band and Trusting Lucy, however, with everything that was geauxing on, I never had a chance to study ! Almost everything was cut out or cut short because of time constraints or whatever ! I tried to prepare cards, but I have a hard time with my eyes when I get hot or excited, seaux I had a hard time reading the words, I did my best ! This is one part of my intro to Bo-Pah & The Sledge Grits Band that is one of the few things I got to almost get out in it's entirety ! This was my gift on the day before Mothers Day to the most beautiful creature He has ever created. She knew I worked hard on planning emceeing for the evening and knew that I kept complaining that I had to kept cutting things out, seaux she turned on our video camera for me the next day, and had me speak my speech to her and my young'uns who were my audience :0) I was happy. For those of you that weren't there, here you geaux!

Now, I know we’re here for Bo-pah, but we would have no Bo-Pah unless a particular lady would have entertained meeting a senior highschooler after a football game in Oct. 93 ! (Cradle robber ! Is the statute of limitations up yet? Statutory !!! Maybe I can hold that over her head the next time she get’s all crane style on me ! Your right, the statute probably ended about 3 kids ago! She probably only met up with me just to make someone else jealous or something, but hey- it worked out pour moi, and she has allowed me to call her mon espouse, my wife, ever since. :0) I geaux to sleep thanking the Lord for her blessing, having the honour of calling her my ribbone. I fall in love with her again everyday when I wake up, and ask HIM how I got to be seaux lucky that she would had me every night. Baby, why don’t you raise your hand and let everybody cast an eye on you and see what I have to show off- Ain’t she something? Happy early Mother’s Day, I have to pay respects to the lady with the uterus that nurtured my baby’s in her womb for 9 full mo.’s and when they all out grew from that place, has been a Mere de Fantastique, a Fantastic Mother ever since and is all that I could ever ask for in a partner ! How did a ‘lil ghetto-kuntry boi like me ever get so blessed? The very beautiful, intelligent, gracious, benevolent- did I say beautiful? Someone keeping track? (I hope these’ll add up) Mama Sledge!

Bisous mon coeur, je t’aime !

Jour de mères heureux à vous ! Happy Mother’s Day to you!

Thank y'all,

Mr. Grits

Thank you to Monterey County Weekly for the prestigious award! We appreciate it and are very humbled by it:) We are also pleased to announce that our close family friend... Dennis Murphy, Grammy nominated-bassist extraordinaire, (who will also be performing at Bo-pah's Birthday Bash), won the Best Musician award.

Here is a copy of the article...

Best Underage Band
THE SLEDGE GRITS BAND
http://www.gritsworld.com
Six-year-old Bo-pah can barely see over her snare drum, but the Afro-sporting drummer holds down Stevie Wonder’s “Superstitious” like a studio pro. Nine-year-old Mimi equally captivates a rowdy bar crowd and a restrained City Council meeting with her soulful pipes. With this much talent so early in life, the four sisters of the Sledge Grits Band are destined for stage lights beyond local fairgrounds. The Salinas band was one of six finalists in The Early Show’s “Singing Family Face Off.” Though eliminated from the competition, we thought the Sledge sisters ate up the competition like grits.

Thank y'all again Monterey County Weekly, Best of 2009, for all of your support!!!!
