I know many of you loyal Everybody Violet fans were promised a long-awaited Everybody Violet CD or LP would be released by the end of this calendar year. Alas, life sometimes gets in the way of life: especially when you are dealing in the worlds of artists and musicians.  We've had a few
set-backs here and there, including the departure of longtime drummer Joey Miller, so it now looks as if we may not be heading into a recording studio until the summer of 2010!. The silver lining on that cloud is,  that we are free to search for an exceptional producer and a cool record label to support the project on a professional level, leaving the band free to be artists ans to play the music- maybe even tour from time to time!

If you are aching to hear the voice of Everybody Violet in a totally new light,  you'll be happy to know that I have entered a partnership with mAncalledclay.
We started to record in early November during my visit to San Diego
You can find two versions of our single "Blue Orange Candy"at  www.myspace.com/erissisters.

I am very excited about this musical partnership.  We'd love to hear from you if you like it too!

Sincerely,

Dear Everybody Violet Fans,

Many of you fans have been patiently waiting for an original CD; which is long overdue. We had hoped to deliver sometime in 2010, but life got in the way! The band is currently on hiatus, with our long-time drummer Joey Miller moving on, and some other members busy with life changes. That being said, we plan to regroup in The Bay Area in late spring of 2010 to rehearse with a new drummer and prepare to play live and record our long awaited debut CD! We really can't wit for that. It will be like giving birth to a child after 20 years of incubation!

In the meantime, Everybody Violet fans can catch a dose of the vocal prowess and lyrical lamentations of frontwoman Kristi Maddocks in The Che Underground collaborative band The Blues Gangsters, on their debut CD "The Perils of Life" (Furious Babyface Records). Miss Kristi wrote a third of the album and sings on over half of it, sharing vocal duties with her longtime friend and the notorious, once impish leader of The (San Diego) Wallflowers, David Rinck. Also in the band is Everybody Violet members David Fleminger and Heather Vorwerk, who together make up the neo-clasical rock duo The Comeuppance! The Comeuppance are busy at work on their debut CD, due out very soon!

If you would like to check out or purchase The Perils of Life, we suggest you shop online at CDBaby.com or Amazon.com, where The Blues Gangsters have
on-line shopping pages (where you also can leave reviews of the CD, which is immensely helpful and very much apppreciated).

Fasten Your Seatbelts, "The Perils of Life" is a wild ride!

If you like the sounds of Everybody Violet & The Blues Gangsters, Kristi Maddocks & co. will be performing LIVE with The Blues Gangsters at The Casbah in San Diego on January 30th, 2010 (9pm);  and at Speisekammer Restauraunt & Bar in Alameda, on Thursday February 4th, 2010 @ 8pm (with The Comeuppance).

All Our Love,

Everybody Violet

Aloha,  all of you garage and psychedelic rock n roll fans!

I want to begin this communique by thanking the groups of Everybody Volet supporters who came out early to see us open The Che Underground Reunion event at The Casbah in San Diego on May 28th, 2009...as it was presented by Tim Mays & Che founder Mathew Rothenburg.  Everybody Violet had a blast preparing for the show, and by adding three new members to our roster, we more than made up for any missing original band members!

On Friday, May 28th, Everybody Violet was led by two founder members and principal songwriters, Carina Burns Randolph on guitar & vocals, and myself, Miss Kristi Maddocks, on lead Vocal. Also in rare form that rocking eve was our originl drummer, the beat of the band, Joey Miller (who is famous for her punk outfit The Injections and the Art Rock Band Noise 292).

Another principal in the band was guitarist/arranger David Fleminger (The Answers, The Mirros, The Comeuppance), who has been involved with Everybody Violet since early days in SD, way back in the mid 1980's, as a consultant and contributorthrough the 1990's until now!

The newest additions for the show are very familiar to all of us, but for different reasons. Kristen Martin, who now stands as our beautiful, rhythmic, and highly inventive bassist, is also a musical comrade from The Che Underground (Noise 292, Synesthesia, and more). It is the addition of classically trained cellist and violin player Heather Vorwerk (The Comeuppance) that really added to our live sound... With Heather and David on board, the band  was able to re-arrange and lengethen some of its "unfinished work", while adding richness, depth, and hautnting beuty to others.

The whole band of Everybody Violet was genuinely thrilled by the reception we received from the audience during and after the show at The Casbah! We rocked!

NOW WE ARE SAD. JOEY HAS DECIDED TO LEAVE THE BAND...AND EVERYBODY VIOLET IS JUST ABOUT TO PITCH THEIR BODY OF WORK TO LABELS & PLANS TO RECORD A CD IN 2010! SO, Everybody Violet  IS LOOKING FOR A NEW DRUMMER, PREFERABLY A "MATURE DRUMMER (30-40+ YEARS OLD) FROM THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, WHO IS READY TO WORK HARD AND POSSIBLY RECORD A cd WITH US, SOON

PLEASE SEND KRISTI A MESSAGE WITH CONTACT INFO, INCLUDING A MYSPACE PAGE and an e-mail and phone number to contact you.  Kristi on MySpace

EVERYBODY VIOLET IS REBORN!....

Q:  WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU BLEND A PUNK ROCK LEGEND, HALF of a POST-60’S PSYCHEDELIC GARAGE-PUNK, ALL-GIRL BAND, TWO CHE UNDERGROUND LEGENDS, a CELLO, and 22 years of  musical experience?

A:  EVERYBODY VIOLET-REBORN!

EVERYBODY VIOLET is REBORN and OPENING the CHE GAMES at the CASBAH in SD on MAY29th, 2009!....

San Diego’s enduring all-girl post-psychedelic/60’s punk band from the mid 1980’s, Everybody Violet, has been reformed with a new line-up!  On Friday, May 29th, 2009, Everybody Violet will take the stage to open the two -day Che Underground Showcase at The Casbah, which will feature some of the most influential acts of San Diego’s Rock Renaissance of the early 1980’s. ....

Everybody Violet was an all-girl band which formed at the end of the punk, Mod and psychedelic era in San Diego, cued by the dispatch of the notorious Morlocks to San Francisco and the waning of what has been recently been coined “The Che Underground” The high spirited and intelligent girls in Everybody Violet insisted on performing sets of all- original music, which was unusual for bands of their genre. In a very short course of time, EV had gained the attention to of local critics with The San Diego Reader, Revolt In Style Magazine, and the San Diego Union, as well as renowned Los Angeles record producer and promoter Greg Shaw, who showed interest in signing the band to his indie label. Unfortunately, the girls were in crisis, desperate and under duress, and before they had the wisdom to record a record with Shaw in 86, the group disbanded. Many of the women moved to San Francisco and even worked together on EV projects and even performed in original jazz or cabaret acts into the 1990’s. Some of them would not speak again until winter of 2008, when Kristi Maddocks celebrated the 3 year recovery of a massive congenital brain defect and stroke that nearly coast her life in 2004*and called many old dear friends together to celebrate her life. This third “ReBirthday Party” marked beginnings of Every body Violet‘s rebirth and coincided with the evolution of the Che Underground Blog. Coincidence? We think not!....

Now, over 22 years since the band worked together in any form, Everybody Violet has come together with a new sense of dedication and enthusiasm for creating and playing music that rocks the body and moves the soul! At the heart of the group are three original members, drummer Joey Miller (Noise 292, The Injections); guitarist/vocalist Carina Burns-Randolph; and lyricist and lead singer Kristi Maddocks   (The Blues Gangsters, Burlap & Pearl, Café Du Nord). The new additions (who now make EV a sizzling sextet) include music aficionado David Fleminger on guitar, keyboards, and arrangements (The Answers, The Mirrors, Lemons are Yellow, The Blues Gangsters); Kristin Martin on bass and vocals (Noise 292, Lemons Are Yellow); and classically trained Heather Vorwreck on cello and violin (The Comeuppance).  Everybody Violet delivers a soulful blend of psychedelic indie pop & rock that is colored with tribal drums, haunting strings, and unexpected vocal harmonies. EV hopes that the addition of Dave’s guitar and arrangements, Heather’s strings, and the vocals skills of Kristin Martin to its repertoire will translate into a fuller sound with a majestic audio landscape. Everybody Violet is dedicated to engaging its audience, increasing its fan base, and reaching a level of performance and professionalism that eluded the band 25 years before.  ....

Tindersticks Touched Down in SF 3/15/09

This past weekend Miss Kristi Maddocks, lead vocalist for Everybody Violet, had the pleasure of hanging out with her long-time friends, Dave Boulter, Neil Fraser, and Stuart Staples of the English Indie Rock and Soul band Tindersticks.

Sadly, this year's visit was cut short by a seies of mishaps out of their control, one of which was an illness that befell their drummer Andrew , which sent him to the Hospital and prevented him from performing live that night at the Great American Music Hall. It was a blessing when the band came together and sounded fantastic just the same...albeit early in the performance the stress of it all clearly was affecting Stuart's mannerism and stiffling his voice a bit. Over time, this too he overcame, and with unwavering emotion he stormed through one balled to the other, shifting and swaying the hearts of their enraptured audience...it was a beautiful, masterful performance by everyone in the show!

To be quite honest, since the first time I heard the Sticks play live I felt like I had arrived to my musical "home". Each time I see these friends and hear their music I feel very much the same way- I feel electric, connected, protected, and safe. It is a very personal bond that the Tindersticks and I share, one of my life's special little blessings, I suppose.

In the little amount of time I had to converse with the boys on this last visit, I was able to tell them of my music with of The Blues Gangsters and Everybody Violet; and it was interesting to me that they immmediately expressed more interest in the Girly-ish Violets; which of course, is very exciting and telling for me. This means this is where my energy needs to continue to increase...hear yeee Everybody in Everybody Violet.....we need to give it OUR ALL!

By God...We Have a Band of British Brothers ready to give us a little help and advice along the way!

Thank You Tindersticks, We Love You!

Everybody Violet will be playing in San Diego at the Casbah in May. There will be a new line up of people and the sounds will be as rockin as ever. Dave Flemminger is an exciting  addition to the line up. Dave has been in numerous bands, is a production and audio engineer. He brings a great deal of experience and art with him to round out the sounds of the ever evolving Everybody Violet. Also,  the newest addition of Kristin Martin to the band is our latest exciting event. Kristin  has played for years with Dave and is currently in a band with him called Lemons are Yellow. Kristin also brings to the table a great deal of expertise in audio and digital imagery as well as being an accomplished bass and guitar player and vocalist. Heather Vorwerck will be filling out the EV sound with cello and violin for a more dramatic and rich dimension. These new additions will be joining original members Carina Burns-Randolph (Guitar and vocals), Kristi Maddocks (lead Vocalist)  and Joey Miller (Drums).  We are all very excited about the recent changes in the line up and look forward to seeing everyone at the Che Games in May in San Diego.
