So, a little belatedly, but big congratulations to Crab Meat Moon, Stratosfire, and Robert Castellani, who were the three bands from Heat 2 to go through. They will all be recording for the Soundwaves album in the New Year!

We wouldn't have liked to have been in the audience voting on the night, as all the bands played so well, and choosing just three would have been a hard task ;).

A special thanks to our headline act, and winner of last year's contest Ed Sheeran. Great to see how he's getting on - he's one to watch without doubt. Go Ed!

Coming up next will be our winners announcement from the third Heat.

So the contest has started and a great night it was! :)

As the doors opened and the audience started to gather the energy began to build back stage as the sound checks were over and the bands were getting excited.

In the 800 seated Spa Pavilion our audience of 100 + at first seemed small but that didn't last very long!
"Fick as Fieves" the Aldeburgh based three piece started the first half with a 20 minute set that got the audience going followed by the beautiful vocals and mezmerising songwriting of the Woodbridge based solo artist "Lottie Brazier". Felixstowes own "Alex Body" then took to the stage solo style and entertained and interacted with the audience like only he can.
After the first intermission "Silk and Steel" showed their home town just how it was supposed to be done with there high energy, excellently delivered, shredded rock leaving the audience with no choice be to get up and dance.

To end the contest the 4 piece, Woodbridge based band "Clay" took up the rains with their powerful, energetic grooves and entrancing vocals leaving the audience with the heard job of choosing 3 acts to win a space on the next Soundwaves album, "Sounds of the East Coast III"

During the 2nd intermission the anticipation of all the acts was great as the votes were being counted up and the headline act "The Kabeedies" prepared to finish the night.

Still charged from their debut album "Rumpus" launch party the night before at the Waterfront Norwich. The Kabeedies took to the stage to a practically all standing, all dancing audience and made us all not want the night to end!
When they finally let us rest and catch our breaths it was time to announce the winners of Heat 1 of the Ultimate Bands Contest 09/10.

In 3rd Place: Silk and Steel
In 2nd Place: Fick as Fieves
In 1st Place: Clay

The winners gaining a 3 track demo and a place on Sounds of the East Coast III.

All round it was a fantastic night that was enjoyed by all that attended, even the bar staff were begging for voting cards!

The next heat is taking place on Saturday 14th of November. Don't miss it!!!

"Sounds of the East Coast II" is a celebration of musical talent from rural Suffolk. Twenty-four young bands and artists competed in The Soundwaves Ultimate Bands Contest to win their place on it.

Each band was given a day of studio time in the Summerhill Studios, Leiston, with Henry Readhead, to record three tracks, each written by the young bands. Their creativity, individuality, and unique style was encouraged and supported, so you can expect to hear a broad range of musical styles when you listen.

The album has been created to help raise money to keep this important project running. We hope you will buy it, enjoy it and tell all your friends to buy it too. The proceeds will allow us to continue our unique programme of gigs featuring emerging local and UK-wide talent, recording experience, and music industry workshops with world-class specialists.

Founded to provide musical activity in rural areas, Soundwaves aims to create opportunities for young people keen to get involved in the music industry, whether on-stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience.

We’re sure that you’ll join us in congratulating the bands, and thanking everybody who has helped to make the project possible, in particular Suffolk Coastal District Council, Suffolk County Council and the Youth Opportunity Fund without whom the project couldn’t have happened.

We hope you will enjoy listening to the Soundwaves album as much as we have enjoyed helping to create it. It’s homegrown talent at its very best.
