Rob Salmon – Carnival
Salida: Octubre 2009 Sello: My Cup Of Tea Music

9/10

Hello hello hello!

God said: “In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove”. Exactly! God was right! And my groove always beats house, my hearth is housy! Yesterday, today and tomorrow. My little label
My Cup Of Tea comes back with his 3th release, giving a little turn to his sound, working on some classic stuff, perfect for the current moment, where the house is just a trendy word.
Veteran producer
Rob Salmon is the one who moves our body and soul with three amazing old school deep house tunes, full of energy and warm feelings. Man of the moment David Durango, well know for his releases on Poker Flat, NRK, Viva Music or Dessous, gets a superb work on “Carnival” taking the deepest elements of the original one for doing a sublime deep house piece.

Don’t forget to check the marvellous artwork made by Gaas!

..:: Rob Salmon - The Drive Home EP (Save Room Recordings) ::..
: Reviewed by Nick Collings
: house :

New Zealand born Rob Salmon is no stranger to mixing it up with the big boys of quality underground house. Previously with releases on Deep Dish's "Yoshitoshi" record label, "Chez Music" and now on Hamburg's "Save Room Recordings" Rob's rise has been a well fought, well deserved achievement.
Rob started his music career in the late 80s gaining recognition quickly as the DJ for New Zealand hip hop act Urban Disturbance, all the while fashioning his own style of house music through a legendary residency at Auckland's The Box Nightclub in the mid to late 90s. His early delve into music production saw his tracks feature on magazine cover CD's as well as several local CD compilation/Mixes.
Rob spread his wings from the Land of the Long White Cloud (NZ) around the turn of the millennium and spent many years in New York City, where he collaborated on his major breakthrough single with Rob Rives entitled 'Running Towards A Dream' in 2001. Rob left NYC in 2003 and returned back to New Zealand to once again take over and conquer the national dance scene, until the travel bug caught up with him again and now Sydney, Australia is where he calls home.
This is the 5th release on Save Room Recordings, The Drive Home EP features two originals 'Drive Home'. 'Hold Tight' and a remix of the title track 'Drive Home' courtesy of Save Room label mate Benjamin Kruse. Drive Home is a perky, yet driving slice of tech house that chugs along with subtle chords and underlying percussion that is constantly evolving, then drops back to its hypnotic groove.
Benjamin Kruse's Drive Back remix takes all the top elements from Drive Home and works it back into a slightly more tribal affair with its chilled back stabs and sweeping whooshes.
Hold Tight is the feature on the EP for me. The production and style of which is right up there with the D-Nox & Beckers, Ame's and Dennis Ferrers of now. It is a happy bouncy tech houser that oozes groove. It's smooth piano laden breakdown and deep voiced vocal makes it a stand out from the paint by numbers styles doing the DJ circuit.
