Hi everyone!

I hope you've had a great summer and have been able to sneak in a good road trip or two.  My summers are always hectic and full of scorching Davis sunshine so as fall approaches with the promise of cloudy winter to come, a warm feeling comes over me.  I'm looking forward to 6:00 o'clock darkness, a good book, hot chocolate and some glorious rain.

The changing seasons will feel a little different for me this year.  For some time now I've been thinking about my life and reassessing what does and does not bring me happiness and  I've come to the conclusion that I need to hang up music for a while.  I've been at this thing a long long time and the past couple years I've felt more and more like a surfer paddling out to a wave that is getting further and further away.  When I look to my future and envision working towards some sort of success or progress in music my heart gets heavy with the effort.  But when I imagine some new unknown chapter of my life beginning, I get excited and my heart lifts.  Right now I'm picturing a blank canvas where I have the time and inspiration to paint it any way I want to.  I can't even begin to express how right I think this decision is.

And I have no regrets at all.  I've had such a good time over the years and have made some very dear friends, life long friends.   Over the years I have been shown the truest meaning of kindness, love and support from fellow musicians, family, friends and fans.  You all have believed in me and made me the musical underdog that you root for.  I can't thank you enough and I hope you all can understand that this is something I have to do.

The fun part is that I feel like I just gave my two weeks notice at work so I'm really looking forward to these last shows.   This Friday in Chico, next Sunday in LA and October 10th in San Rafael.   Please do me this one last favor, pick one of these shows, put it on your calendar, grab some friends, make the drive out and send me off the right way.

Your humbled, thankful friend,

-david

Greetings from Carp,

For those of you unfamiliar with Carpinteria, it's a quaint surfing town just south of Santa Barbara.  It's kind of the "Cheers" of coastal towns, if you lived here everyone would know your name.  Yesterday, we played a hip wine bar, Corktree Cellars, and had a great time.  Thanks to Jessica for having us and Lea for putting the whole shindig together and letting us get sniffed and tickled by Rayna.

Tuesday was my first time in San Diego and I can't for the life of me figure out why that town isn't a whole lot larger.  The weather was spectacular, the air was clean, the people were great and the city was beautiful.  We only had a couple hours, but we walked Balboa park which has the most prehistoric fig trees I've ever seen.   We also caught some live music outside at the Organ Pavillion which was quite nice.  But my favorite was just standing on the hill at 5th street with jet's screaming by a couple hundred feet above your head on their approach to the San Diego Airport (have I mentioned I still have a 6 year old's infatuation for big machines).

Many many thanks to Kelsey and Paul for being such wonderful hosts at the Tin Can Ale House.  If you're ever in San Diego look that place up.  They have something like 60 different kinds of canned beer from all over.    Also huge thanks to Greg Gibson for having us open up the show, Greg is an immensely talented songwriter that I should be playing a show with in SF in late August.  I'll keep ya posted.

Cheers,

David & Kenny

Hello from paradise everyone.

We're having a great time on the road so far.  Our first show at Guitar Merchant in Canoga park was super cool, thanks Emily for hooking us up.  Tons of great music, Ryan McDermot, Matt Simons and a cool Police-ish band "With Engines" were all phenomenal; and good guys too.

Thanks to Kenny's friend Biagio for the couch to sleep on and the blow to my self esteem.  Biagio keeps a broken chair in his kitchen for unsuspecting guests to sit on.  At 2 in the morning I crashed loudly to the floor.   It was actually quite funny.

We surfed yesterday and I stood up on my first wave ever, I'm thinking of entering Mavericks this year.  By the way if you ever want some really cheap entertainment watch me try for 20 minutes to squeeze into a medium wetsuit.

Last night's show at The Scene rocked something fierce.  We got to enjoy another set with Mellisa and Tim from "The Hard to Get" - great Tracy Bonham-ish kind of band.  The after show hang out at Canter's Deli was a blast too.  Although our friend Bob had to literally pee into a puddle on the floor in the bathroom as the urinal backed up.  Thank God I've got a big bladder.

Celebrity sighting:  Harold Perrineau walking his dog down the street.  Oh yeah, we're in the big time now.

Hi everyone,

Is it hot enough for ya’ll?  Oh that’s right, not all of you live on the bottom rack of Satan’s Kitchen Aid toaster oven; otherwise known as the San Joaquin Valley.

So, I’ve decided to do something about this cat boiling heat . . . I’m going on tour!!  Starting this Sunday I’ve got gigs in LA, San Diego, Santa Barbara/Carpinteria, Santa Cruz, San Louis ObispoSonomaWillets, Timber Cove and Arcata.

I’m so jazzed I can’t even stand it.  Kenny Koller is coming with me on guitar and we’ve got some fun surprises worked out.  The new CD is done as well and you’ll be able to pick one up at any of the shows.  (or at www.cdbaby.com/davidfletcher)

This is where I ask for your help.  We would like to be invited back to these venues in the future, so we need to get some people to come to the shows.  Even just one or two of our people in the crowd makes a big difference.  So this is where I hope and pray and ask and beg that you take a look at the calender below and find a show that you can make it out to.   And don’t worry, if you don’t live near any of these places, you can still help the cause.  Call your friends who do live near the tour stops (who doesn’t have a friend in LA) and tell them to come out to a show.   Oh, and tell them to give us a hug while there at it . . . we’ll be in need of hugs : )

That’s about it. Wish me luck (in person preferably)

See ya’ll soon,

-david

sometimes my body alerts me at four in the morning to it's discontent of the things i ate the day before.  this is an argument we frequently have.  i'm of the opinion that if one has an opinion you should share it while there is still time to do something about it.

but at four in the morning when my house is dark and people and birds are asleep i swear i think a little clearer.  on friday i shared an evening of music with my friends kenny and julie.  now I have a sweet memory that I never had before.  thank you.  on saturday i watched my friend kc have loved ones come from miles around to be with him on an important day, just because he asked them nicely.  i think that's what happens when you wear you're heart out on your sleeve.  it's good for the soul to see a nice guy win.  thank you.

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all well and looking forward to summer.  I was just thinking this morning as I was eating Honeycomb in my backyard that I am a lucky guy.  I've got a wonderful wife, live in a cute house in a nice town and have a good job.  When I was younger these were things I thought I would have to do without if I wanted to play music seriously.

Well, I'm 32 now.  I don't know how "seriously" I'm playing music, but my 9th album was released this month and I'm going on tour in July and I don't have to live in a van down by the river.  That's pretty cool.  I play my songs in little bars and coffee shops and book stores and colleges and people come out and listen.  That's pretty cool.

Sometimes extra nice people buy my cd's, share my music with their friends, help book shows and sign up for my mailing list and that's just really cool of you.   So I wanted to say I sincerely appreciate all the love and support and thank you for sharing this part of my life with me.

New CD

May 16, 2009 - Saturday

Current mood:  happy
Greetings everyone,

I trust you've been well.  It's gearing up to be quite a nice summer.  We just got our new Cd, Lunchbox Cowboy back from the printer in Jersy and boy is it handsome.  We hope to have it available to ya'll thru Cdbaby within a week or so and up on itunes/amazon and the like within a month.  Thank you for your patience.

Kenny and I are headed out on tour in July.  We're planning on playing about 18 shows from San Diego up to Vancouver, BC and back.  This is where you come in.  We're quite behind schedule booking the tour and most venues are all filled up.  If you live anywhere near or have friends/family anywhere near: San Diego, La, Santa Barbara, Portland, Tacoma, Seattle, Ashland, Eugene, Salem or Vancouver, send us a couple of cool spots to play.  Nothing is too small for us, coffee shops, bookstores, divebars, house concerts, anything at all would be a big help.

Thanks in advance for all your help and have a great weekend!

Current mood:ready for bed
I'm up late listening to the Fleet Foxes and missing my band. The album is finally mixed with the artwork finalized and the whole thing is in South Jersey being printed. After a couple nights catching up on sleep, I'm ready to start playing live again. I think I may have forgotten how to sing actually. Hopefully it's just like riding a bicycle.

Kenny and I celebrated the album's completion with horseshoes in Central park amongst all the homeless Davis guys. It was 65 degrees and peaceful, but who knew Kenny was a closet shoe shark, I got creamed.

We've got some shows coming up two here in Northern California and I've got one solo show back in Pennsylvania. It will be nice to see my family again, it's been almost a year and a half and that's far too long.

I hope all of you are well. We'll let you know as soon as we've got the album in our hands.

Cheers,

-david
