This post is a portal to my blog and other spaces on the world wide web to check out:
"Sex, Drugs & Rock n Roll to Treat Cancer"
http://hubpages.com/hub/Living-on-the-Edge

Blog space/page where I integrate (and have as an impetus) the Girlz of Graceland event along with my cancer journey as the ground for reflection and revolution. I'll ride, I'll write, and by all rituals and rites of passage I'll do my best not to vent but rather retort in response to my physical and emotional roller coaster .

This piece was submitted by Lauren Derstine. Lauren is a compassionate attorney, and a yoga teacher of many years. She specializes in Mother & baby and kids yoga. She has taught Hypnobirthing®. She helps people by educating them on the benefits of special therapeutic devices such as the Far-infra-red heat dome, and Chi machine. The Chi machine is a machine specially designed to improve oxygenation and energy flow in your body. She resides in San Diego with her husband, two daughters and a big dog. Please take a moment

The Chi Machine Naturally Promotes Deep Peaceful Sleep

When used right before bedtime, the gentle rhythmic swishing action and sound of the Chi Machine can promote deeper and longer sleep. Many people with insomnia or other sleep disorders, including several members of our extended family, have reported they have experienced profound and prolonged relief through the regular use of the Chi Machine right before retiring to bed. How does this simple jiggling motion enhance sleep? Through experimentation, widely renowned Japanese scientist, Dr. Inoue, determined that passive aerobic exercise increases the intake of oxygen. He found that as a result of the increased oxygen levels, the brain cycles shift to tranquility, which naturally results in more peacefully sound sleep.
Brain scans have shown that the use of the Chi Machine transports the user from a Beta brain wave frequency (state of alertness and awareness measured at 14 cycles of electrical brain wave activity per second) into a more relaxed Alpha brain wave frequency (state in which conscious awareness is redirected such as in a day dream measured at 7 cycles of electrical brain wave activity per second) to the more relaxed drowsy state known as Theta (state that occurs between light drowsiness of alpha and the more profound heavy sleep of delta measured at 4 cycles of brain wave activity per second.) Going directly to bed while in this very drowsy Theta state can allow sleep to come easily while naturally increasing the quality and duration of sleep.

Second, the Chi Machine works out tension and tightness through passive body movement, which can relieve and/or alleviate pain. This can eliminate or reduce sleep disturbances.

Sleep Tips

Some tips to amplify the Chi Machine's ability improve your sleep include closing your eyes during use. Sight is the sense that dominates our brain activity so removing visual input starts the relaxation process. Try to refrain from excessive physical or mental activity or stimulation in the evening. Eat a light dinner early and keep the room temperature low. Additionally, the introduction of soft relaxing music or a relaxation recording along with naturally scented aromatherapy oils such as lavender can do wonders for your ability to achieve a fabulous night's sleep.

FAQ about having your insurance cover the Chi Machine:

1) Q: Will my insurance cover the cost in buying a ChiMachine?

A: Check to see if your policy covers "Durable Goods", many companies do. Then determine what percentage they cover.

2) Q: Does my insurance need a prescription from my doctor ?

A: Most likely Yes. One of your primary care physicians can write a prescription for the ChiMachine, an FDA approved "Therapeutic Massager".

3) Q: What should the doc's prescription include ?

A: Usually your prescription only needs to meet one of the requirements listed below.
(A) Temporarily relieves minor muscle aches, pain and tension caused by fatigue or overexertion, and or an accident, or a chronic condition...
(B) Temporarily increases local blood circulation.
(C) Relaxes muscles locally.

4) Q: What protocol should the prescription state ?

A: The doctor should list one or more of the above requirements. It's best to have the doctor write a protocol: (example) "patient is to use the chimachine twice daily beginning with 5 minutes, and increasing time as pain will allow. Patient is to see me (doctor) in two weeks for a check up....".

5) Q: Is the Chi Machine approved by the FDA ?

A: Yes. The USA code-classification for the ChiMachine: Class 1 Medical Device "Therapeutic Massage"

6) Q: WHat about the Far Infra-red dome (AKA F.I.R. HotHouse) device ?

A: The F.I.R. Hot House is tentatively scheduled to receive a "Class 2 medical device" approval in the USA in the near future. Far Infra-red heat lamps, which pale in comparison to the "hothouse", are used very commonly in physical therapy clinics, sports medicine centers, chiropractic and acupuncture offices.
