Hey Everyone,
First off, I hope you all had a safe and relaxing Memorial Day weekend. Second I wanted to send you a quick reminder that we'll be performing in the Mountain Music Lounge this afternoon (Wednesday, May 30th) at 3:15pm. If you're near a radio at a quarter-past three, tune in to 103.7 FM and hear a live interview and performance with the band.
Also, we're playing at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard this Saturday, June 2nd. Alice Stuart is performing a solo set to start off the show, and then our friends SweetLou will play a set before we take the stage around 10:45 or so. With the Music Lounge we're expecting a great turnout, so get your tickets in advance if you haven't already.
One more thing- for some time I've been looking into alternative fuel options that are more ethical and affordable than conventional petroleum gasoline. Not only is gasoline expensive, it is the greatest culprit of anthropomorphic induced climate change, and, as the most valued natural resource on planet Earth, has become the impetus of violence, cruelty, and political deception in our country and around the world. As a touring band we burn thousands of gallons of gasoline every year. Not only does it feel like poor business practice to be spending so much on gas, but I feel that our band's current dependence on fossil fuels puts us, by default, in cahoots with some very slimy people. I don't like slimy people.
Therefore, after 2 years of research and deliberation, I have decided to buy an old Crown school bus, convert it into a home on wheels, and then (and here's the kicker) install a parallel fuel system that will allow the bus to run on waste vegetable oil we collect at restaurants on the road (see http://www.frybrid.com). The folks at Frybrid in Seattle, WA have developed an advanced system to run diesel engines on used cooking oil that is fully automated with an onboard computer that switches from diesel to waste vegetable oil once the heat from the engine has warmed the cooking oil to 160 degrees F where it maintains a viscosity that is friendly to diesel engines and fuel injectors (this takes only a couple of minutes and a few wisps of diesel fuel). So once the system kicks over to WVO, we're sailing from town to town on free and ethical recycled fuel. That's right, we're gonna be burning more fat than Jenny Craig. But the system is actually not as crazy and avant-garde as it seems- Rudolph Diesel originally created the engine to run on vegetable oil way back in 1911!
To raise money for this enormous project, we've been saving every penny we've earned since October (meaning no paychecks for any of us). To help raise some more dough, we've put some live performances up for sale on E-Bay (http://www.ebay.com). If you search for "Ian McFeron" in the E-Bay search engine you'll come up with a couple of shows I've listed as part of this fund raiser.
That's all for now- Looking forward to seeing you all at the Tractor!
Ian
